Despite last night's announcement by Daniel Levy that Spurs are not a selling club and that Dimitar Berbatov will not be going anywhere, the player's agent is not singing from the same hymn-sheet, as he said the player is getting older and wants to win things now with a big club.  Trying to salvage the situation, he made things worse by saying he is OK at Spurs, but is not happy and has made this known to the board, but he is trying hard and this is out of respect for the fans and his team-mates.  Oooh ... that's good of him.  While under contract, he could be made to stay at the club, although making a huge profit on him might be in the mind of the board.

Sunday  30.12.2007   (For other Spurs history on this day click here; For the current news on each player in the squad, click here)

The Sunday Mirror reports that Tottenham have all but clinched the signing of Ajax's 21 year old left back Urby Emanuelson, who was in the Dutch Under-21 European Championship 2006 winning squad and has won 10 full caps for his country.  The player's agent says his heart is set on a move to Spurs and a fee of £5 million should seal the deal for the player who can also play in midfield.  The paper also reveals that Juande Ramos commented after yesterday's game that while he would love Dimitar Berbatov to stay at the club, there were other considerations to be taken into account and that opens the way for it to be interpreted as he will be leaving in the January transfer window, with Chelsea and Manchester United keen on bagging the Bulgarian striker.  Despite his goal-scoring for Spurs, albeit from the bench, Jermain Defoe is being linked in today's papers with Portsmouth, Aston Villa, Manchester City and Chelsea all willing to make a move for the England forward.  The Sunday People reckon West Ham United want to pay just £12 million for Darren Bent (the Sunday Express put it at £10 million, while the Mirror claims a full £16.5 million offer might be forthcoming) and the paper claims he regrets not joining the Irons in the summer, but also state that Manchester City and Aston Villa are monitoring the situation.  The News of the World runs a number of Spurs stories, including an alleged exit for Anthony Gardner to Birmingham City or Wolverhampton Wanderers for £3 million, as Spurs shore up their defensive options with a £8 million move for Lazio's 26 year old central defender Guglielmo Stendardo.  The paper also claims Crystal Palace manager Neil Warnock wants to take winger Wayne Routledge back to Selhurst Park on loan, but the England U21 player would prefer a permanent move.  It sounds a bit unlikely, as he left under a cloud when he joined Spurs and Palace got relegated.  SCBC want to re-loan defender Phil Ifil when his current spell ends on Monday, taking him through to the end of the season, with a view to a permanent move if the fee is within their range.  The Mail on Sunday says that Tottenham and Newcastle United will be vying for Manchester United defender Wes Brown's signature in January.
Didier Zokora has told the Sunday Mirror that he
"would be happy to sign for another five years. I am very happy and settled here and I have no wish to leave."

The Observer treads the well worn path of Portsmouth wanting to buy Jermain Defoe, while the Mail on Sunday reckons we will be adding another defender to our ranks, claiming that the club have won the race to sign Glasgow Rangers full back Alan Hutton, although the Sunday Mirror have him down as being pinched from under our noses by Manchester United.  The same paper runs a story that West Ham United are keen to sign forward Darren Bent, but say that Juande Ramos wants to keep the former Charlton Athletic man at White Hart Lane, but back on the defensive front, the News of the World pin their hopes on Tottenham increasing the pressure on Ajax to sell young full back Urby Emanuelson and Goal.com say Ajax are looking to Brazil for a replacement should Emanuelson leave, although The People report Ajax have told Spurs he is not for sale.  Still talking about defenders, the Mirror reckon that Spurs will be in for Racing Santander's 21 year old Argentinian defender Ezequiel Garay, who can play either at full back or at the centre of the defence and will cost around £7.5 million.  The Daily Star Sunday also have Tottenham going Dutch, with Hedwiges Maduro, as the 22 year old Dutch international defensive midfielder has been frustrated at not being offered a new deal at the Amsterdam Arena and looks set to leave the club, with a number of clubs in England, Italy and Spain, including Arsenal, Chelsea and Internazionale, interested in snapping him up.
