   The Sun report that Tottenham and Newcastle United are set to do battle for the services of Derby County's young midfielder Giles Barnes, who will cost £3 million.  Everton are supposedly interested in midfielder Danny Murphy, so say the Mirror.  Blackburn Rovers are saying they are not going to sell the Norwegian winger Morten Gamst Pedersen to Spurs.
   RC Lens' 17 year old midfielder Adel Taarabt has said he turned down advances from Chelsea and Arsenal to sign for Tottenham in the January transfer window.  The player said he was in London for talks and a medical earlier this week and everything is set to go through in the following few weeks.  The other London clubs thought he needed time in the youth sides, while Spurs are looking to fast track him into the first team squad and with a two year option on the end of a three year deal, he will be seen as another one for the future for the club.
   TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR TEAM NEWS : - Aaron Lennon, Mido and Dimitar Berbatov all need late fitness tests to see if they can make the team to start against Liverpool.  Definitely out are Robbie Keane, Jermaine Jenas, Paul Stalteri and Teemu Tainio.
   LIVERPOOL TEAM NEWS : - Boudewijn Zenden will miss the game at White Hart Lane with a knee injury and Mohammed Sissoko has still to get over a dislocated shoulder, so misses out and the game will also see Harry Kewell absent with septic arthritis.

   The dates for the semi-final of the League Cup will be Wednesday 17th January for the home leg against the winners of the Arsenal/Liverpool quarter final, with a 8.00 p.m. kick off and the second leg will take place a week later with kick off being at 7.45 p.m.  However, these dates could be subject to change should FA Cup Third Round replays be required.

   Tom Huddlestone has extended his contract until the summer of 2011, as he is enjoying his football at Spurs.

   CRIME WATCH ... Former Spurs midfielder Gus Poyet was sent from the touchline in Leeds' away match at the Stadium of Light against Sunderland today.  A Leeds attack was disrupted when a ball, which had been kept in the crowd, was thrown back onto the pitch and play was taken back.  A few minutes later, with Sunderland on the attack, Poyet threw a ball onto the pitch and was ushered away from the technical area by the referee.

   The People newspaper claims that Aston Villa will bid £12 million for Jermain Defoe in the January transfer window, while Tottenham's answer to the left wing problem appears to be Blackburn Rovers' Norwegian Morten Gamst Pedersen according to the News of the World.  SCBC boss George Burley has said that his club have not received an official bid from Tottenham for their 17 year old full back Gareth Bale.
   TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR TEAM NEWS : -  Jermain Defoe is a big doubt for Tottenham, as there is concern over the knee injury he picked up in the warm-up at Newcastle on Saturday.  Both Defoe and Aaron Lennon will have late fitness tests to see if they can play.  Robbie Keane (knee), Jermaine Jenas (ankle), Teemu Tainio (knee) and Paul Stalteri (knee) are all definitely out.
   ASTON VILLA TEAM NEWS : - Gavin McCann will have a late decision on whether he is fit to play in the Boxing Day match with Spurs.  Juan Pablo Angel and Milan Baros are vying to replace striker Chris Sutton.

   Tottenham lost 1-3 to Newcastle United this afternoon at St. James' Park.  For a match report, click here.  Reaction to follow.
   Spurs have been drawn at home in the first leg of the League Cup semi-final on January 17th where they will play the winner of the delayed quarter-final between Liverpool and Arsenal.  The second leg will be played on the 24th January and if successful, the draw has paired them with the winner of the Chelsea v Wycombe Wanderers semi-final in the final to be played at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.
   The Daily Mirror reveals that Tottenham have made a £6 million bid for SCBC's 17 year old Welsh international defender Gareth Bale or £5 million if you read the Daily Express.

   Tottenham's home game with Bolton Wanderers set for Saturday 24th February will now kick off at 3.00 p.m. on Sunday 25th February, unless Spurs reach the League Cup Final, when the match will be postponed.
   TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR TEAM NEWS : -  Spurs will be without Aaron Lennon (knee), Jermaine Jenas (ankle), Robbie Keane (knee) and Teemu Tainio (ankle) for the trip to Newcastle.  Paul Stalteri has a knee knock and Edgar Davids is ill, making them doubts for the game, while Didier Zokora returns from suspension and Michael Dawson is likely to play on despite picking up a shoulder injury in the Southend game on Wednesday.
   NEWCASTLE UNITED TEAM NEWS : -  Full back Celestine Babayaro is fit to return for Newcastle, while
Shola Ameobi (hip), Stephen Carr (foot), Craig Moore (hamstring), Michael Owen (knee), Olivier Bernard (hip), Charles N'Zogbia, (knee), Titus Bramble (calf), Tim Krul (knee) and Steve Harper (groin) will all miss the match. Damien Duff will have a late fitness test to see if he can play.

   Club Brugge are said to have had discussions with Spurs about a "co-operation deal" between the two clubs.  The Belgian club's manager, former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder, Marc Degryse has said that Tottenham believe that Brugge fit into THFC's long term plans and they can utilise the Belgian club for giving players who come through the African academies a chance to play football at a good level and I would imagine, the opportunity to become naturalised Europeans.  Brugge have also met with Fulham and West Ham United, but Spurs seem to be the favourites to clinch a deal.

  CRIMEWATCH ... Arsene Wenger is to face a FA charge of improper conduct for the comments he made to the referee at half-time in Saturday's game against Portsmouth.  The Arsenal manager said, "I complained because I didn't feel it was a free-kick but I didn't use any bad language.  It didn't disturb me too much and I don't expect to be banned. Do you want me sent to jail ?"  Well, Arsene - given the choice ...  ...

  MEHSTG's no-spin story ...  Manchester United keeper Tim Howard, currently on loan at Everton for a year, has said of his position at the Old Trafford club ... "I don't do very well on the bench," he said. "You need someone who accepts that position and doesn't rock the boat. It's not in my blood because I like a little bit of fire. Raimond van der Gouw was a fantastic deputy goalkeeper. He came in, did a job and shut his mouth. I don't think I am the type."  Seeing as how Howard suffers with Tourette's Syndrome, it could easily lead to him unleashing a mouthful if he can't keep his mouth shut.

   The Sunday Mirror claim that Tottenham might not need to play Feyenoord to progress to the last 16 of the UEFA Cup.  They reckon that UEFA might throw the Dutch club out of the competition because of their fans who rioted in the group stage match against Nancy.
   Tottenham have issued a hands off warning to clubs who think they will be signing Jermain Defoe in January, while Martin O'Neill seems keen to pursue his interest in Robbie in the coming transfer window, with Keano his main target.

   The knock-out round of the UEFA Cup has  paired Spurs with Feyenoord of Holland, with the first leg away from home.  However, it has been announced that UEFA will seek to overturn a two years suspended sentence against the Rotterdam side playing their home games behind closed doors after their fans rioted in a Group match against Nancy.  This means that no Spurs fans may be allowed to watch the game at De Kuyp with a decision set to be made in January 2007.
Should Tottenham get through this tie they will then meet Braga of Portugal or Serie A side Parma in the next round.
   Robbie Keane is said to be a target for Aston Villa again this January according to the Daily Star.

   Tottenham beat Dinamo Bucharest 3-1 in a UEFA Cup Group B match tonight at White Hart Lane.  Click here for a match report.  Reaction to follow.
   The draw for the next stage of the UEFA Cup takes place in Switzerland tomorrow at Noon and the teams we could play include
Fenerbahce, Feyenoord, Hapoel Tel-Aviv, Zulte-Waregem, Livorno, Braga and Lens.
   The Daily Mirror brings us all down with the news that Spurs will chase the signature of Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing in the January transfer window.

   Spurs have appealed against the FA charge of failing to control their players in the game against Middlesbrough on December 5th.
   The Daily Mirror claim that Spurs have snapped up the signing of 17 year old Adel Taarabt for £2.5 million from Racing Lens.  Sky Sports website claims Ajax have no intention of re-signing midfielder Edgar Davids, while 19 year old Anderlecht defender Anthony Vanden Borre has been linked with a £2.5 million January move with Spurs, Real Betis and a German club being linked with the player.
   The Tottenham Under-18 team lost at Chester City by 0-1 in the Third Round of the FA Youth Cup tonight.
   Tottenham Hotspur plc have appointed Sir Keith Mills, who was
voted Sports Industry Personality of the Year,
as a non-executive director.  Formerly the CEO and President of London 2012, he delivered the successful bid for the Olympic Games for Stratford, although Spurs felt that they could not approach him when they were looking at the chance of moving into the Olympic Stadium after the Games are finished.  With the retention of a running track at the stadium, THFC have now dropped their interest.  He also has business interest in Nectar card and Air Miles loyalty schemes and his marketing expertise is bound to be utilised by the plc.
   TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR TEAM NEWS : - Jermain Defoe is struggling to be fit with a hamstring injury, while Teemu Tainio is ill and will not be included in the squad for the game tomorrow.

   Goalkeeper Paul Robinson has said that he would love to finish his career at Spurs, saying he can see himself there for the next 10-15 years, as he has loved every minute.  Bad news for all the other goalkeepers at the club then !!  The News of the World says that Spurs, Aston Villa and are all keen on QPR winger Lee Cook, who they have put a £10 million price tag on

   Daniel Levy has hit out at the FA's intention to investigate betting companies sponsoring football shirts as "ridiculous" according to the Daily Telegraph.  He also added that the club have never been approached by foreign investors and even if they were, a cash input of £20-30 million would not make a great difference to Spurs.
   The Daily Mirror claims that Ledley King will play on through the pain despite needing an operation.
   Spurs Under-18s drew 1-1 with Aston Villa in the FA Premier Academy League today with Tomas Pekhart scoring the Tottenham goal.

   Tottenham have announced a pre-tax profit of £600,000 in the year ending 30th June 2005, which is  £4.9million down from the previous trading period.  The club's turnover increased by £3.5 million to £74.1 million, while the operating profits, before taking off football trading and depreciation, fell £14.6 million to £4.6 million.
   Spurs might be hit with a sponsorship blow if the FA find that there is a link between football club shirt sponsorship and gambling amongst children.  The £36 million deal with Mansion would be at risk if the FA find any link between the two.  Bet they don't !!
   The Daily Express reckons that Jermain Defoe might be leaving Spurs in January as Martin Jol has supposedly admitted that he would rather play Robbie Keane in preference to Defoe up front.  In the Daily Mail, it says that Sunderland goalkeeper Ben Alnwick's sex film antics might have put a question mark over his move to Tottenham in January.
   TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR TEAM NEWS : - Didier Zokora starts his three game suspension, but Hossam Ghaly returns from his three games out after being sent off at Blackburn Rovers.  Mido is over his groin injury, but Robbie Keane and Anthony Gardner are both out with knee injuries and Jermaine Jenas' ankle injury rules him out too.
   CHARLTON ATHLETIC TEAM NEWS : -  Djimi Traore will miss the game with a hamstring pull, but Jimmy Floyd Hasslebaink and
Souleymane Diawara will come into the team

   Tottenham will be without Robbie Keane for six weeks after he picked up ligament damage to his knee in the 2-1 win over Middlesbrough.  Joining him on the sidelines for a month if Jermaine Jenas, whose ankle injury against Arsenal rules him out for four weeks.
   Following the brawl in the Middlesbrough match, George Boateng has had his red card overturned and Spurs are considering the FA charge of not controlling their players in the game.  Personally, I think Spurs should fight it !!
   Spurs have been given 2,015 tickets for the FA Cup Third Round tie against Cardiff City on Sunday 7th January.
   It is reported in the media that Spurs full back Benoit Assou-Ekotto has received a suspended sentence in France after being charged with assault on a player in an indoor football competition last season when he was playing for RC Lens.  He allegedly kicked the player in the face. breaking his jaw and was given an eight-day suspended sentence and made to pay a €2000 fine.
   Former Spurs forward Jurgen Klinsmann has apparently withdrawn from the race to the the US national coach after a statement on the ESPN website claimed the ex-German manager did not want to be considered for the post.
   Former Spurs defender Thimothee Atouba had an eventful game for SV Hamburg in their 3-2 Champions League win over CSKA Moscow.  He gave away a penalty and was beaten for the second Russian goal before being substituted in the 69th minute.  Leaving the pitch, he was roundly booed by his own fans.  Reacting to this he swore repeatedly and gave obscene hand gestures to the crowd, for which he received a red card.

   Spurs and Middlesbrough have been charged with failing to control their players after the melee in yesterday's match at White Hart Lane.
   Boro have lodged an appeal against the sending off of George Boateng, as they would lose him for four matches should the red card stand, because he ahs been sent off once preciously this season.  Tottenham were going to appeal against the sending off of Didier Zokora, but on seeing the video of the incident Martin Jol said the red card was probably deserved.
   Former Spurs defender Mbulelo Mabizela faces a long ban from football after testing positive for marijuana in a urine test.  He faces six-months out of the Mamelodi Sundowns side, although he has not played this season since his first test showed traces of the drug.

   Martin Jol today said Spurs have taken a backward step in their progress and need to toughen up, as they are a stronger squad with more talent than last season, but they have to fight for every ball.  He said Dimitar Berbatov was fine playing in UEFA Cup, but needs to turn in similar performances in the league.
   TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR TEAM NEWS : -  An ankle injury will keep Jermaine Jenas out of the game tomorrow night and an eye problem rules out Edgar DavidsMido's knee injury keeps him out and Anthony Gardner has a lower back problem that will sideline him, while Hossam Ghaly serves the last game of his three match ban.  Paul Stalteri returns to the squad after his own knee knack.

Abel Xavier (match fitness) and Jonathan Woodgate (illness) will face late fitness tests, while Mark Viduka could be back up front, although Chris Riggott's hamstring injury rules him out and Andrew Davies' calf strain will stop him taking part.

   Tottenham were today drawn away to Cardiff City in the Third Round of the FA Cup to be played over the weekend of the 6th and 7th January 2007.
   The Star on Sunday claims that Tottenham are looking to sign Manchester City's central defender Sylvain Distin in January.  The News of the World say that Spurs, Liverpool and Portsmouth will be watching the situation at Birmingham City where Matthew Upson says he could be sold in January.  The People report that Spurs are ready to make a £2 million offer to Derby County for their young star midfielder Giles Barnes, who is being chased by Everton, Liverpool, Aston Villa and Newcastle United.

   Today it is the Daily Mail who report that Tottenham are poised to move for 17-year-old Lens midfielder Adel Taarabt.  Meanwhile, Hertha Berlin midfielder Yildiray Basturk, has denied he wants to move to Tottenham.
   ARSENAL TEAM NEWS : - Thierry Henry has supposedly been ruled out with a neck injury, while Phillipe Senderos is suspended.  Returning to the squad are Freddie Ljungberg, Gael Clichy and Cesc Fabregas.

   CRIMEWATCH ... West Bromwich Albion defender Ronnie Wallwork, currently on loan at Barnsley, was stabbed several times in a Manchester club last night.  He is in a stable condition and his injuries are not life threatening.
