   Spurs are said to have sent scout Tony Book to watch Wigan Athletic's 21 year old left back Leighton Baines.  Manchester United have also been watching the England Under-21 defender.
   Midfielder Didier Zokora is back in training after his bout of malaria and has been named in the Ivory Coast squad for next month's friendly against Sweden.

   Calum Davenport will be ruled out of selection for the Spurs first team for the next two weeks after suffering a groin injury in the League Cup tie against MK Dons.
   The German press claims that Tottenham watched Hertha Berlin midfielder Yildiray Basturk at the weekend.  The 27 year old Turkish international is out of contract in the summer and can talk to other clubs from1st January  2007 and although he left the pitch injured after 28 minutes, he was the club's Player of the Year last season.  Having been linked with Spurs yesterday, David Beckham says he wants to stay with Real Madrid, but whether they want him to stay is another story.  Tottenham are amongst a gaggle of clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea, Locomtiv Moscow, Liverpool, Barcelona and Glasgow Celtic, who have all had Chiendu Ogbuke watched playing for his club Lyn Oslo.  He looks set to leave the Norwegian side in the summer and the 20 year old Nigerian has scored eight goals in 10 matches so far this season.
   Spurs Reserves hosted Charlton Athletic Reserves at Broadhall Way tonight and drew 0-0.
   Former Spurs defender Alton Thelwell has joined Leyton Orient on loan from Hull City.

   Spurs have today been linked with a £5 million move for Real Madrid midfielder David Beckham, with Martin Jol telling the Mail on Sunday that he will "sit down and have a think about it."  Meanwhile, it is reported that Aston Villa are keen to sign Robbie Keane for £5 million, as Spurs look at Birmingham City defender Matthew Upson with a view to buying him in January.

   Sky Sports website claims that Tottenham are keen to make a move for Norwegian youngster Dag Alexander Olsen.  Having been on trial at Spurs, the 17 year old forward from Gjovik-Lyn hoped to go to Liverpool and Bayern Munich to try out for those clubs, but it looks like Spurs might be first to make an offer to take him on.
   TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR TEAM NEWS : - Spurs will definitely be without Teemu Tainio and Steed Malbranque, who are both recovering from operations, while Young-Pyo Lee is still troubled by an ankle injury, with Paul Stalteri having picked up a knee knock in the League Cup tie at MK Dons.
   WATFORD TEAM NEWS : -  Central defender Clarke Carlisle is out with a thigh injury and striker Marlon King is still sidelined with a knee injury.

   TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR TEAM NEWS : - Dimitar Berbatov looks set to return to the Spurs team, while Didier Zokora will probably miss out as he is still suffering with malaria.
   Former Spurs midfielder Gus Poyet has joined manager Dennis Wise at Leeds United as his assistant.
   Former Spurs defender David Tuttle has turned down the caretaker manager role at Swindon Town, preferring to develop his role as Head of Youth Football.

   The FA have stated that they intend to take no action over the alleged bite by Jermain Defoe in yesterday's match against West Ham United.
   Sky Sports runs a story claiming that Tottenham are set to organise a feeder club deal with Belgian side FC Brussels.  Initial talks on the agreement have been held, but nothing firm has been decided upon with the club, who are tenth in the Juliper League, although further talks may be held at a later stage.
   Former Spurs Academy Manager Colin Murphy has taken over as assistant manager at Hull City.
   Former Spurs defender David Tuttle has been upgraded from Head of youth football and Scouting Director at Swindon Town to be caretaker manager while Dennis Wise and his assistant, former Tottenham midfielder, Gus Poyet talk to Leeds United about taking over at the crisis Yorkshire club.
   Robert Earl - the owner of the Planet Hollywood restaurant chain and a Spurs fan - bought a 23% stake in Everton at the end of last week.  He intends to introduce Sylvester Stallone to the club and if the intended naming rights deal goes through, he will aim to get Goodison Park known as the Planet Hollywood Bowl or something.

   The News of the World claim that Young-Pyo Lee might move to AS Roma in January despite a move falling through to the Italian club in the summer, with some strange comments about the reason for it from Roma.  The South Korean international's agent has denied any truth in the rumour.  The Sunday Mirror puts Spurs amongst Liverpool, Newcastle United and Arsenal as potential suitors for Chelsea's want-away winger Shaun Wright-Phillips

  MEHSTG's spin story ... Arsenal keeper Jens Lehmann has said he would consider wearing protective headgear in the wake of the incidents that led to Chelsea keepers Petr Cech and Carlo Cudicini being taken to hospital last weekend.  The German national keeper reckons that donning a Peruvian knitted bonnet would deter anyone from kicking him in the head because he would look like a mentalist.

   The Sun claims that Spurs have joined Newcastle United and West Ham United in chasing Birmingham City winger Julian Gray, who wants away from St. Andrews.

Ledley King might be rested after playing in Turkey on Thursday, but Mido is fit for selection.  With Didier Zokora still suffering with a fever, Tom Huddlestone is likely to continue in his place in midfield.

Carlos Tevez has only had one training session after coming back from international duty with a knee injury.  Defender John Pantsil is fit after knee surgery and Robert Green could make his debut.
   Former Spurs manager and midfielder Ossie Ardiles has left Beitar Jerusalem, where he had been coach of the Israeli club for a whole five games.
   Tottenham's
Andros Townsend featured in England Under-16s 1-1 draw in Wales in the Victory Shield tonight before being substituted after 60 minutes.

   TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR TEAM NEWS : -  Michael Dawson and Ledley King are both likely to be fit for tomorrow night's UEFA Cup tie in Turkey.  Calum Davenport is doubtful after suffering a broken nose against Aston Villa, while Hossam Ghaly is not expected to recover from his hamstring injury, although Aaron Lennon might make an appearance in the match.

   Calum Davenport's red card handed out by referee Martin Atkinson in the game against Aston Villa has been wiped out after the official reviewed the decision.  Davenport was deemed to have committed a professional foul to concede a penalty that Juan Pablo Angel consequently missed, but on watching it again Atkinson ruled that it had not been necessary.  This means that Davenport is available for Sunday's game against West Ham United if required.
   Reserve striker Andy Barcham has signed a contract extension to keep him at the club.

  MEHSTG's spin story ... Jose Mourinho has caused great controversy by claiming that the ambulance that took Petr Cech to hospital was not in his club's colours of blue and white.  The local ambulance trust said that it was not the policy of the trust to provide colour co-ordinated ambulances for the players nor would they have the Pensioners sponsors names emblazoned over the vehicle.

   Following a story in last week's London Evening Standard, Spurs have denied any interest in moving to the London Olympic Stadium after the 2012 Games.  Having been told that a running track will be retained around the pitch, Damien Comolli has stated that Spurs are looking at developing White Hart Lane or moving to a new ground.
   Spurs Reserves drew 2-2 away at Boreham Wood FC, where they played Watford Reserves.  The two Spurs goals came from Kieran McKenna and Andy Barcham.

  MEHSTG's no-spin story ... two singers who performed at half-time in the game at  the match between Barnsley and Sheffield Wednesday were abused by the crowd and responded by giving V-signs to the crowd and swearing at them.  Both singers were later arrested by Police and served with £60 fixed penalty notices for their behaviour.

   In the game, Calum Davenport played from the first minute with a broken nose, Michael Dawson suffered concussion and Hossam Ghaly pulled a hamstring.
   Spurs Under-18s drew 3-3 with Aston Villa with goals from Jake Livermore, David Hutton and Thomas Pekhart.

   TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR TEAM NEWS : -  Aaron Lennon has earned a shock recall to the Spurs squad after having knee surgery, but it is doubtful if he will play a part in the team that takes on Aston Villa.  Captain Ledley King is expected to play after some swelling to his knee after the Macedonia game for England.  Jermain Defoe hopes to be fit after picking up a foot injury in Croatia and Pascal Chimbonda's calf muscle injury makes a late fitness test necessary, as will Mido's thigh injury.  Anthony Gardner is back in the squad after a hip injury, but Tottenham will be without Young-Pyo Lee, who has an ankle injury after playing for South Korea.
   ASTON VILLA TEAM NEWS : - 
Milan Baros is expected to replace shoulder injury victim Luke Moore, while goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen, Olof Mellberg and Peter Whittingham are all thought to be doubtful with injuries.   Midfielder Steve Davis is expected to be fit to feature in the game.

   Spurs goalkeepers and coaches past and present have backed Paul Robinson after the ball popped up over his foot as he went to clear it in England's 0-2 loss in Croatia last night.  Pat Jennings said that Robbo had cleared thousands of times and not had this happen before, while Dave Beasant.  England goalkeeping coach and former Spurs keeper Ray Clemence said up until the backpass, Robinson had the perfect game, making several good saves.
   Boss Martin Jol said that Robinson is still the England Number One and that has not changed because of one "freak moment".
   TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR TEAM NEWS : -  Jermain Defoe may have picked up a foot injury in the same game last night and it may lead to him missing Saturday's visit to Aston Villa.  Ledley King's injured knee, picked up in the previous England match against Macedonia, is a concern, although it is hoped he might be able to play  and Pascal Chimbonda's calf injury also makes him a doubt.  Aaron Lennon will not be fit, but has returned to training earlier than it was thought he would.

   Martin Jol has bemoaned the injuries sustained by his players while away on international duty.  He said that with players being away for 60-70 days a year, the lack of compensation means that the clubs who own them suffer their absences when they take a knock when playing for their countries.

   Paul Robinson was finally beaten after six matches in England's goal in the 0-2 Euro 2008 qualifying match defeat in Croatia, with the second goal coming about when the ball bobbled over his foot as Gary Neville's back-pass came to him.  Jermain Defoe came on as a 71st minute substitute.
   Marton Fulop was on the bench as Hungary slipped to an embarrassing Euro 2008 qualifying 1-2 defeat in Malta.
   The Euro 2008 qualifier between Iceland and Sweden saw Emil Hallfredsson start for the home side in their 1-2 defeat.
   Bulgaria's away against Luxembourg in their 1-0 Euro 2008 qualifying group win saw Dimitar Berbatov play from the start.
   Robbie Keane captained the Republic of Ireland in their 1-1 Euro 2008 draw against the Czech Republic in Dublin tonight.

   Ledley King was left at home as the England squad travelled to Croatia for their Euro 2008 qualifying match.  He was still suffering with fluid on his knee and with Rio Ferdinand being fit, it was decided to leave King behind.
   England Under-21 progressed to the finals of the European Championships in Holland next summer with a 2-0 win in Leverkusen.  Tom Huddlestone played the whole game as the team went through 3-0 on aggregate and Wayne Routledge was an unused substitute.
   Dimitar Berbatov is being threatened with a fine for his comments to the FA Vice-President Iordan Lechkov.  After the 1-1 draw with Holland, Lechkov said that not all the leading player were pulling their weight, so the Spurs striker said if he thought that then perhaps Lechkov should turn out for the national side.
   Spurs are among a group of six clubs who will be keen to sign Micah Richards if he cannot agree a new deal with his club Manchester City.
   TV dates have been announced for Tottenham's game away to Portsmouth on New Year's Day and the home meeting with Newcastle United has moved back from Saturday 13th January to Sunday 14th January 2007 with the kick off being 4.00 p.m.

   Ledley King missed England training today, but this was only a precautionary measure as he has a slight reaction after matches, because of his recent knee surgery.
   Other than that, there is little real Spurs news as international week drags on.

   Spurs are being linked to a January transfer bid for West Bromwich Albion's central defender Curtis Davies in the Sunday People.  .
   Mido and Hossam Ghaly played for Egypt in their shock 0-0 draw with Botswana in the African Nations Cup qualifier.
   South Korea lost 1-3 to Ghana in a friendly in Seoul and Pyo-Young Lee played.
   Didier Zokora was in the Ivory Coast side who took on Gabon in the African Nations Cup qualifier and won 5-0.
   Canada played Jamaica in a friendly tonight and  Paul Stalteri was in the Canada side.

   Paul Robinson and Ledley King started England's 0-0 draw with Macedonia at Old Trafford this afternoon, while Jermain Defoe came on as a 75th minute substitute in the European Championship qualifying match.
   Robbie Keane was captain of the Republic of Ireland team who lost 2-5 in Cyprus in their Euro 2008 qualifier.  He did hit the post with a header, but he did pick up a yellow card.
   Dimitar Berbatov played the 90 minutes of Bulgaria's 1-1 draw with Holland in their Euro 2008 group game.
   Marton Fulop was an unused substitute in Hungary's 0-1 Euro 2008 qualifier defeat by Turkey.
   Although out on loan to Malmo, Spurs reserve midfielder Emil Hallfredsson came on for Iceland in their 0-4 loss to Latvia in the Euro 2008 qualifier.
   Spurs Under-18s had to come from behind to beat MK Dons 3-2, with Tomas Pekhart scoring twice and Cian Hughton once.

   Teemu Tainio has had a hernia operation and will be out of action for about four weeks.
   Tom Huddlestone and Wayne Routledge featured in England Under-21s 1-0 win over Germany at the Ricoh arena Coventry tonight in the European Championship finals play-offs.  Routledge was substituted in the 71st minute.  The second leg is on Tuesday night.
   The UEFA Cup tie in Turkey when Spurs face Besiktas will kick off at 8.00 p.m. local time (6.00 p.m. UK time).
   Following Tottenham's progress to the UEFA Cup group stage, the home fixture against West Ham United will now be moved from Saturday 21st October to Sunday 22nd October kicking off at 3.00 p.m. and the match at home to Wigan Athletic due to be played on Saturday 25th November will now take place on Sunday 26th November with the kick off at 3.00 p.m.
   Former Spurs striker Les Ferdinand has ruled himself out of the race to be the new Bournemouth manager.

   Jermaine Jenas missed England training today with a knee knock, but is expected to return to training tomorrow.
   Martin Jol has reported that Aaron Lennon and Steed Malbranque may both be back in contention for first team places in time for the Carling Cup game on 23rd October, ahead of both midfielders' schedules to get back into action after cartilage and hernia surgery respectively.

   Tottenham have been drawn to play Besiktas (Away 19th October), Club Brugge (Home 2nd November), Bayer Leverkusen (Away 23rd November) and Dinamo Bucharest (Home 14th December) in UEFA Cup Group B.
   The Carling Cup Third Round tie against Franchise FC will be held at the National Hockey Stadium, Milton Keynes on Wednesday 25th October with a 7.45 p.m. kick off.

   Michael Dawson suffered concussion after his clash fo heads with Tom Huddlestone in yesterday's game against Portsmouth, but he should be recovered by the time we play Aston Villa in two weeks.  Also injured yesterday was Pascal Chimbonda, who had a calf muscle problem, but he should also be ready for the trip to ViIla Park.
   Dimitar Berbatov is in the Bulgaria squad to play Euro 2008  qualifiers against Luxembourg and Holland.
   Hossam Ghaly and Mido are both selected in the Egypt squad for the African nations Cup qualifier against Botswana.

The News of the World link Spurs with the Standard Liege 18 year old defender Marouane Fellaini-Bakkioui.  The Belgian Under-19 international, who is 6' tall, has caught Tottenham's eye with some outstanding performances for club and country and claims Spurs have spoken to his agent about him and will track his progress.  The NoTW also claim that Spurs and West Ham United will battle to take possession for the Olympic Stadium after the 2012 Games in Stratford.
   The official website has confirmed the signing of Sweden Under-17 goalkeeper Oscar Jansson who will join the club on 1st January 2007.
   Former Spurs midfielder Miguel Pedro Mendes has today slammed Martin Jol for leaving him out of the Spurs side, which he believes cost him a place in the Portugal World Cup squad.  He also claims on the day he returned to White Hart Lane that Jol did not explain his reasons for leaving the player out, while he loves the way Harry Redknapp is much closer to his players.
