   Martin Jol has branded Mido's comments about S. Cumball as "disrespectful and irresponsible", after he said the Portsmouth centre-half was one of the easiest defenders he has played against.  I thought football was a game of opinions ??
   Tottenham are also said to be poised to make a £10 million bid for Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole, according to Daily Express.
   Tottenham's Academy side earned a 2-2 draw with Reading's Under-18s with Tomas Pekhart and David Hutton scoring the Spurs goals at Spurs Lodge.

   Paul Robinson, Jermaine Jenas, Ledley King and Jermain Defoe have been called up for England's internationals against Macedonia and Croatia in the Euro 2008 qualifying campaign.
   TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR TEAM NEWS : - Ledley King, Paul Stalteri, Jermain Defoe and Edgar Davids could all be ready for Sunday's game against Portsmouth.  Dimitar Berbatov might face a late fitness test, but Steed Malbranque, Aaron Lennon, Anthony Gardner and Lee Barnard will still be missing.
   Martin Jol told the media today that there will be no need for more surgery on Ledley King's knee, as the swelling that came after the Liverpool game is a usual reaction, but they had hopes it would have cleared up for the game against Slavia Prague yesterday.
   Spurs have signed 15 year old Swedish keeper Oscar Jansson from Karlslund.  He will join the Under-18 Academy squad and took the opportunity to join Tottenham over club's in his homeland.
   Also from Scandinavia, youngster Samuel Aziz of Hogaborg BK, has been invited to England for a trial, but he has ankle trouble at the moment and will wait until he is fully fit to come to Spurs Lodge..

   Tottenham beat Slavia Prague 1-0 in the First Round Second leg UEFA Cup tie at White Hart Lane tonight.  A match report and reaction will follow.
   Enfield Council voted 11-3 to reject Tottenham's planning application for a new training ground at Bulls Cross in the north of the borough.  The scheme had the backing of the Mayor of London and .
   The Sun reports that Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie has had to send a written apology to Jermain Defoe for his comments after transfer deadline day stating that the Spurs striker wanted to join Portsmouth.

   TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR TEAM NEWS : -  Injuries have hit half the Spurs team as they prepare for the UEFA Cup tie with Slavia Prague.  Jermain Defoe (ankle), Dimitar Berbatov (groin), Ledley King (knee), Aaron Lennon (knee), Steed Malbranque (hernia), Paul Stalteri (hamstring), Edgar Davids (ankle) and Anthony Gardner (hip/back) are all missing, with Tom Huddlestone, Calum Davenport and Phil Ifil coming into the squad.
   Martin Jol told the media that Dimitar Berbatov and Jermain Defoe could both be fit for Sunday's match with Portsmouth, while Aaron Lennon and Steed Malbranque are both back in training and could be back sooner than anticipated.
   Former Spurs reserve keeper Shwan Jalal is currently training with Leeds United while on trial from Woking.

   French Under-21 midfielder Blaise Matuidi of Troyes has said that he does not want to move to the Premiership, as he is happy in France and his favourite team is Arsenal.  Spurs are reported to have to pay Exeter City compensation of a five figure sum to gain the services of the non-league club's manager Alex Inglethorpe, who will join the Tottenham Academy staff.
   It is rumoured that former Spurs striker Les Ferdinand is interested in taking the manager's job at Bournemouth.

   The Daily Mail reports that Tottenham are going to watch Per Nilsson, the Swedish defender, when he turns out for Odd Grenland agaisnt Rosenborg in the Norwegian League.
   Irish Academy star Terry Dixon has dislocated his knee and will be out of action for some time..
   Robbie Keane has been called up by the Republic of Ireland for their Euro 2008 qualifiers against Cyprus and the Czech Republic.

   The Sunday Express reports that Arsenal and Spurs are chasing the young Gillingham striker Matthew Jarvis in the January transfer window, although the Sunday Mirror reckons Tottenham might turn to the familiar face of 40 year old Teddy Sheringham (who is twice Jarvis' age) instead.  The News of the World have Spurs down as leading the chase for £8 million rated French Under-21 wonder-kid Blaise Matuidi of Troyes.  A bid of £4.9 million for the 19 year old midfielder was rejected in the summer and his agent says he is still being tracked by Tottenham and some other clubs.

   The Carling Cup Third Round has thrown Spurs an away tie at MK Dons and the match will be played the week starting Monday 23rd October.

   LIVERPOOL TEAM NEWS : - Jermaine Pennant will be up for selection after missing the midweek match against Newcastle United with a muscle twinge, but John Arne Riise will still be missing with an ankle injury.

   Spurs Reserves had a 3-1 win over West Ham United Reserves tonight at Stevenage Borough FC.  The goal-scorers were Charlie Lee, Dorian Dervite and Jacques Maghoma.
   Former Spurs reserve midfielder Mark Hughes has left Oldham Athletic by mutual consent after his contract, which expired in the summer, was paid up.  He played 73 games and scored once and is now a free agent.

  OTHER NEWS ... Kevin Blackwell has been sacked as manager of Leeds United ... John Gregory has been appointed as the new manager at QPR, while old manager Gary Waddock will stay on as first team coach ...

   Aaron Lennon has told the press that he will be back better than ever after his cartilage operation.  The Spurs winger said he was disappointed to miss the UEFA Cup tie and the other big Premiership matches coming up, but said he will look forward to other big matches to continue his development in.

   West Bromwich Albion have given up on bringing Calum Davenport to the Hawthorns on loan.
   TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR TEAM NEWS : -  Dimitar Berbatov is still struggling to be fit as he has a groin injury still troubling him, but he might have a late test to see if he can take part and Aaron Lennon will be undergoing an operation on his cartilage problem tomorrow.  Danny Murphy is fit again and Hossam Ghaly is close to being considered.
   FULHAM TEAM NEWS : - Jimmy Bullard's horrendous knee injury from last week will keep him out for the season as he has ligament damage.  Also out are Simon Elliott (calf) and Ahmad Erlich (knee), but Claus Jensen returns to help out in midfield.  Wayne Routledge is not eligible to play under the terms of his loan deal from Tottenham.

   Aaron Lennon will need a knee operation to deal with his cartilage problem and this will keep him out until mid-November.

   It looks like the fears over Aaron Lennon's knee injury were off the mark, as the winger is now said to be back in training and looks likely to be up for selection for Thursday's UEFA Cup game in Prague, where he faces a late fitness test.  The Daily Express claim that Tottenham are ready to complain that England coach Steve McClaren could have aggravated the knee injury Lennon had by playing him for the national side.

   West Bromwich Albion are looking for a deal to take Calum Davenport to the Hawthorns on loan and Norwich City want a similar deal for Tom Huddlestone.
   Aaron Lennon may be out for a month or more.  He will definitely miss four weeks, but if scans show a problem with ligament of cartilage, it could mean longer on the sidelines.
   Spurs Reserves drew 2-2 at Stevenage Borough FC against Arsenal tonight.  The goals came from Jamie O'Hara from the penalty spot and Simon Dawkins to put Spurs 2-0 up, but they were pegged back late in the game.

   The only other "news" item also can be found in the Express, who claim that when playing for Wigan Athletic, Pascal Chimbonda intended to buy a house in the area previously owned by Star Trek's Patrick Stewart !!

   Aaron Lennon did not feature in today's match after injuring his knee in training on Friday and it is thought it may involve some cartilage damage.
   Anyone thinking of going to Prague for the UEFA Cup game and hasn't got a bed for the night, visit this

   The Under-18 Academy side beat Norwich City 4-0 with David Hutton getting two goals and Thomas Pekhart and Matthew Wells one each.

   The transfer deadline day passed but not without incident, as it has been revealed in the Sun that Portsmouth made a £6million bid for Jermain Defoe at the end of the window being open.  The offer was rejected by Tottenham, but Pompey Chief Executive Peter Storrie said the England striker wanted to join the South Coast club.  A number of papers carry the story about Mido having to keep his weight down and say it is linked to a system of fines set out in his contract if he is unable to do so.
   Michael Carrick has said that he nearly joined Arsenal instead of Spurs, as the Highbury club were looking for a replacement for Patrick Vieira, but the Frenchman stayed and Carrick came to White Hart Lane.  Martin Jol has said he wished Carrick had stayed with Tottenham
   TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR TEAM NEWS : - Teemu Tainio and Young-Pyo Lee have both been rested as they have just arrived from playing in the midweek internationals and Dimitar Berbatov has a groin injury.  Additions to the squad are new arrivals Mido and Pascal Chimbonda, along with club captain Ledley King, who is now over his knee surgery.
   MANCHESTER UNITED TEAM NEWS : - 
Gary Neville will be available for tomorrow's match after recovering from a calf strain.  Neither Alan Smith nor Gabriel Heinze will be utilised and Nemanja Vidic is still injured, while both Paul Scholes and Wayne Rooney are suspended.
   Former Spurs winger Darren Anderton has signed for Bournemouth, after being released by Wolverhampton Wanderers at the end of last season.

  OTHER NEWS ... Brighton and Hove Albion have sacked manager Mark McGhee ... Doncaster Rovers have appointed Bournemouth manager Sean O'Driscoll as their new boss ...

  CRIMEWATCH ... Republic of Ireland boss Steve Staunton has been banned from the touchline for one match after being sent off in the country's Euro 2008 qualifier against Germany.  He was said to be constantly moaning about decisions and he kicked a water bottle flying in frustration ... Wayne Rooney decked Blackburn Rovers' defender Michael Gray after he made comments about Rooney's girlfriend Coleen McLoughlin  ...

  MEHSTG's spin story ... Jose Antonio Reyes has revealed that it was being left out of the Champions League Final that made him leave Arsenal.  Well that and the fact that he wanted the peg in the dressing room that wasn't near the door because he got a nasty stiff neck from the draught through the door.

   The injury news for Tottenham is not good.  Steed Malbranque today had a hernia operation and will be out for two months, while Dimitar Berbatov's groin injury will rule him out of Saturday's trip to Manchester United.  One welcome piece of news is that Ledley King is fit to travel to Old Trafford for the game.
   Mido has revealed that he nearly joined Blackburn Rovers.  The Egyptian striker said he spoke to Mark Hughes and the Rovers chairman, but always wanted to join Spurs, where he will try and bring in a Brazilian fitness coach to keep him at a level of fitness and weight (he has lost 22lbs over the summer) he will need to maintain a presence in the Premiership.

   The club have revealed that the UEFA Cup First Round, First Leg game away at Slavia Prague will be screened on TV on Channel 5 with a 7.00 p.m. kick off (UK time).
   Paul Robinson and Jermain Defoe started England's 1-0 win in Macedonia tonight in the 2008 European Championship qualifying game.  Defoe was substituted by Aaron Lennon in the 76th minute of the game.
   Tom Huddlestone and Wayne Routledge featured in England U21s 3-2 win in Switzerland to go through to the play-offs of the European Championship.  Routledge was involved in two of the goals, was also booked and got substituted in the 79th minute, while Reto Ziegler was in the Switzerland side for the match before being substituted on 84 minutes.
   Teemu Tainio played for Finland in their 1-1 draw with Portugal in their Euro 2008 qualifier in Helsinki tonight.
   Young-Pyo Lee starred in South Korea's 8-0 win over Chinese Taipei in a friendly tonight.
   Marton Fulop was an unused substitute in Hungary's 3-1 win in Zenica over Bosnia and Herzegovina tonight in their Euro 2008 qualifier.
   Former Spurs striker Fredi Kanoute has been allowed to wear a Sevilla shirt without the sponsors logo on it. 
The shirt sponsor 888.com is an online gambling company and gambling is not allowed by the Muslim faith which Kanoute follows.
   Former Spurs striker Steffen Iversen scored for Norway in their 2-0 win over Moldova tonight in the Euro 2008 qualifier in Oslo.

   Wales played Brazil at White Hart Lane this evening and lost 0-2.  A match report will follow.
   Ledley King was seen at the Wales-Brazil game at the Lane tonight and appeared to be walking with a slight limp.  This may put his participation in Saturday's match at Old Trafford in jeopardy.
   Leigh Mills started England Under-19s 0-0 friendly draw with Holland at Walsall tonight.  The young Tottenham defender was substituted at half-time. David Button and Chris Riley did not feature in the game.
   The Daily Mirror claim that ex-Spurs winger Darren Anderton has agreed a pay-as-you play deal with Bournemouth, which is close to his home in Canford Cliffs.

  OTHER NEWS ... Marco Materazzi has finally revealed the insult that caused the head-butt reaction from Zinedine Zidane.  When Zidane said "if you want my shirt you can have it at the end of the match", Materazzi said "I would rather have your sister."  Materazzi said he did not realise that Zidane had a sister at the time. ...  ...

   The new players bought in the transfer window have been allocated squad numbers by the club.  Pascal Chimbonda will play in the number 2 shirt, while Steed Malbranque will be number 15 and Mido will wear the number 11 shirt. 
   Dimitar Berbatov strained an adductor muscle in the Bulgaria match against Romania and he will miss their game on Wednesday against Slovenia, having returned to Spurs for treatment in an attempt to get him fit for the game on Saturday at Manchester United.  The striker apparently played after having a pain-killing injection.
   Paul Stalteri played in Canada's 1-0 friendly win over Jamaica in Montreal today.
   Didier Zokora played in Ivory Coast's 3-2 friendly win over OSC Nice in France tonight until he was substituted in the 66th minute.

   Paul Robinson and Jermain Defoe both started England's Euro 2008 qualifying match against Andorra at Old Trafford this evening, with Defoe scoring twice in the 5-0 win.  He was taken off in the 71st minute, while Aaron Lennon came on as a 65th minute substitute.
   Robbie Keane captained the Republic of Ireland in the 0-1 defeat by Germany in Stuttgart in their Euro 2008 group match.
   Teemu Tainio starred for Finland in their 3-1 win over Poland in the Euro 200 qualifier tonight.
   Marton Fulop was an unused substitute in Hungary's 1-4 Euro 2008 qualifying home defeat by Norway in Budapest today.
   Dimitar Berbatov played for Bulgaria in their 2-2 draw away to Romania in their Euro 2008 qualifying match today, before being substituted in the 62nd minute.

   The day after the night before and Edgar Davids has said to the young Spurs players that they need to buck up their ideas if they are to recover from the poor start in the first three games of the season.
   Martin Jol and Damien Commoli are happy with the transfer dealings and were disappointed that Michael Carrick left and that Middlesbrough did not want to let Stewart Downing leave, but they respect those decisions and will get on with the squad we have where BMJ thinks there are at least two players vying for each position.

  OTHER NEWS ... Bobby Robson suffered a reaction to his recent brain surgery, losing the movement in one leg, but is comfortable and in good spirits ... West Ham United are in the throes of being taken over by the MSI agency, who brought Tevez and Mascheranos to the club ...
