have been called up for England's internationals against Macedonia and
Croatia in the Euro 2008 qualifying campaign.

team as they prepare for the UEFA Cup tie with Slavia Prague.

The transfer deadline day passed but not without incident, as it has
been revealed in the Sun that Portsmouth made a £6million bid for
Jermain Defoe at the end of the window being open. The offer
was rejected by Tottenham, but Pompey Chief Executive Peter Storrie
said the England striker wanted to join the South Coast club. A
number of papers carry the story about Mido having to keep his
weight down and say it is linked to a system of fines set out in his
contract if he is unable to do so.
Michael Carrick has said that he nearly joined Arsenal instead
of Spurs, as the Highbury club were looking for a replacement for
Patrick Vieira, but the Frenchman stayed and Carrick came to White

today had a hernia operation and will be out for two months, while

trip to Manchester United. One welcome piece of news is that

The club have revealed that the UEFA Cup First Round, First Leg game
away at Slavia Prague will be screened on TV on
Channel 5 with a 7.00 p.m. kick off (UK time).
Paul Robinson and Jermain Defoe started England's 1-0

squad numbers by the club. Pascal Chimbonda will play in
the number 2 shirt, while Steed Malbranque will be number 15
and Mido will wear the number 11 shirt.
Dimitar Berbatov strained an adductor muscle in the Bulgaria
match against Romania and he will miss their game on Wednesday against
Slovenia, having returned to Spurs for treatment in an attempt to get
him fit for the game on Saturday at Manchester United. The
striker apparently played after having a pain-killing injection.
Paul Stalteri played in Canada's 1-0 friendly win over Jamaica
in Montreal today.
Didier Zokora played in Ivory Coast's 3-2 friendly win over OSC

Paul Robinson and Jermain Defoe both started England's
Euro 2008 qualifying match against Andorra at Old Trafford this
evening, with Defoe scoring twice in the 5-0 win. He was taken
off in the 71st minute, while Aaron Lennon came on as a 65th
minute substitute.
Robbie Keane captained the Republic of Ireland in the 0-1
defeat by Germany in Stuttgart in their Euro 2008 group match.
Teemu Tainio starred for Finland in their 3-1 win over Poland
in the Euro 200 qualifier tonight.
Marton Fulop was an unused substitute in Hungary's 1-4 Euro
2008 qualifying home defeat by Norway in Budapest today.

The day after the night before and Edgar Davids has said to the
young Spurs players that they need to buck up their ideas if they are
to recover from the poor start in the first three games of the season.
Martin Jol and Damien Commoli are happy with the
transfer dealings and were disappointed that Michael Carrick
left and that Middlesbrough did not want to let Stewart Downing
leave, but they respect those decisions and will get on with the squad
