31.8.99
- Tottenham are among a number of
clubs including Arsenal, Real Zaragoza, Leeds United
and AC Milan, who watched St Etienne player - Anderson Silva de Frenca. The
versatile midfielder, who has been likened to
Patrick Vieira, has already been at Highbury,
thanks to the link between the two clubs and they
look favourite to sign him.
- Darren Anderton has been
allowed to leave the England camp after proving
his injury to the satisfaction of Kevin Keegan.
Sol Campbell is thought to be following suit, but
GG is furious that the England management have
refused to take his word for the condition of the
players and have submitted them to tests to prove
their unfitness. The situation is further
aggravated by KK's acceptance of Rio Ferdinand's
injury without making him make the trip to
Burnham Beeches.
- Ledley King has been called into the
England Under-21 squad for the match against
Luxembourg on Friday after four Leeds United
players withdrew (with embarrassment, no doubt).
- Ramon Vega has targeted the UEFA Cup games for
his return to first team action. He has been frustrated by the
ankle injury he had an operation on, but is set to play a reserve
game soon and wants to get back into the reckoning as
soon as possible.
30.8.99
- Les Ferdinand should have recovered
from his clash of heads in the Leeds United match
by the time Spurs' next Premier League match
against Bradford City comes around.
- Having had one row with England
about Sol Campbell's availability, now Darren
Anderton has been made to join up with the
England squad even though he was not available
for the match last Saturday v Leeds United. Spurs
have scans on his ankle to show he is not fit to
play.
- Mauricio Taricco has said that he
did not cheat to get Alan Smith sent off in
Saturday's game. The claims from David O'Leary
that some Spurs players went down a little too
easily was denied by the Argentinian defender and
by GG, who pointed a finger at Lee Bowyer for the
same claim as he tumbled to win the free-kick
that decided the match. It was also revealed that
the Leeds United forward had been verbally
abusing the linesman for most of the match.
- Ian Walker believes that Nigel
Martyn is in such good form that he will get the
nod for the England keeper's place in the absence
of David Seaman.
29.8.99
- George Graham is set to try and
engage in contract talks with Darren Anderton and
their advisors to establish exactly what terms
they are seeking. He his no doubt trying to
determine whether or not they will feature in
Tottenham's long-term planning.
- TeamTalk has revealed a strange
rumour about Espen Baardsen joining Barnsley. I
have no idea where this may have come from and
sounds implausible considering they have just
signed Kevin Miller from Crystal Palace.
- Two South American defenders have
also been linked to Spurs with Sol Campbell's
continued absence causing some concern. While
watching Calderon at Independiente, Spurs have
also cast their eye over Gabriel Milito. Once
again, Emerson Thome, the Sheffield Wednesday
Brazilian centre-half has been put in the frame
as an option for Spurs should they be looking for
a big strong central defender.
- James Beattie of Southampton is also
a George Graham target according to some reports.
The England Under-21 striker has said he wants to
move on from The Dell when his current deal is up
and the thought of £4 million to strengthen the
side may appeal more to Dave Jones now that he
has Luis Boa Morte and Kevin Davies to play up
front. It is thought that Beattie would to play
for a bigger club to forward his ambitions and
although Leeds United are reportedly interested,
he may see more opportunity to get regular first team action at Spurs.
- Both managers have hit out at controversial (and useless) referee -
Mike Reed -
after yesterday's game. David O'Leary is angry
about him sending Alan Smith off and George
Graham felt, like many others, that the second
Leeds goal came from a free-kick, which should
never have been awarded.
28.8.99
- Tottenham lost 1-2 at home to Leeds
United today. Spurs took a 1-0 lead through Tim
Sherwood, but lost two second half goals before
Alan Smith was sent off near the end for his
second bookable offence.
- Independiente of Argentina's
striker, Jose Louis Calderon, is said to be
Tottenham's transfer target to sign before next
week's European competition transfer deadline.
Unfortunately, the manager of the club, former
national coach Cesar Luis Mennotti, has been
sacked and this may throw a spanner in the works.
There may also be a Spaniard in the works as
clubs from that country are also interested in
the forward, but Tottenham are favourites to get
him for about £2.5 million as Independiente are
strapped for cash.
- Darren Anderton was not fit for
today's match and this may start an argument
between Spurs and England. GG is loathe to let
players go and play for their national side if
they are not fit to play for Tottenham (cf. Sol's
withdrawal from the England squad), but with
Anderton seeking to enhance his contract terms
with Spurs or anyone else for that matter, he
will be keen to feature in the Euro 2000 games
over the next week and a half.
27.8.99
- Tottenham were drawn against FC
Zimbru Chisinau of Moldova in the UEFA Cup first round. Dates and times and venues will be decided
on September 3rd. However, the Official Spurs
site has said that the first leg will be at
Tottenham on Thursday 16 September with the
return in Moldova on Thursday 30 September.
- George Graham has criticised the
contract wrangling of Anderton and Campbell, by
saying they should be up-front with the club. The
Spurs manager said that Campbell should be dealing
with Tottenham rather than putting it off until
the end of the season if he loves the club and he
stated Anderton had been playing well, but
thought this may be to get himself a deal
elsewhere, like Ray Wallace and Brian Deane had
when he was in charge at Leeds United. He did
also state that he did not imply that the players
would not be giving less than 100% for Spurs this
season.
- John Scales seems set to miss the
match against Leeds United tomorrow with a calf
injury. He is most likely to be replaced by Luke
Young. Allan Nielsen could return after
recovering from an ankle injury. Stephen Clemence
is also in the squad.
26.8.99
- Sol Campbell was included in the
England squad for the Euro 2000 qualifiers next
week, but had to withdraw within one hour. GG
said he could not understand why Sol was chosen
as he has only played 20 minutes of first team
football this season and that England did not
contact Spurs to see if he was available for
selection. Darren Anderton, Tim Sherwood and Ian
Walker were also included in the squad.
- Stephen Carr has been chosen for the
Republic of Ireland squad to play Yugoslavia and
Croatia.
- Allan Nielsen has been picked for
the Denmark squad for their match against
Switzerland.
- Paul McVeigh is in the Northern
Ireland squad to face Turkey and Germany.
- Oyvind Leonhardsen, Steffen Iversen
and Espen Baardsen are all in the Norway squad
for their Euro 2000 games next week against
Greece and Slovenia.
- Chris Armstrong started his comeback
with a 55 minute run-out in the reserve friendly
against Barnet behind closed doors. He scored
once and set up three of the other goals in a 7-1
win. Peter Crouch got a hat-trick.
- Stephen Carr has said that the side
are not getting carried away with being near the
top of the table. He said that there are only
four games gone and that the Sheffield Wednesday
game showed that Tottenham had shown some grit to
get the points in a messy game.
25.8.99
- Reports are being carried by a
number of papers today concerning Sol Campbell's
refusal to consider Tottenham's contract offer
until the end of the season. Many are reading
into it that he is waiting to see how Spurs fare
this season before committing to another contract
and Manchester United among other clubs from the
continent are poised to swoop for his signature
should he decide to move on and Tottenham have to
sell before losing him on a Bosman.
- Former Spurs Youth player - Quentin
Fortune - has signed for Manchester United from
Atletico Madrid for £1.5 million after receiving
his work permit.
- Chris Armstrong is back in full
training following his hernia operation and could
be fit for the visit to Bradford City.
- A report today indemnifies Leicester
City from claims of any wrong-doing concerning
the Worthington Cup Final ticket fiasco. It did
say, however, that some players are still under
investigation.
- George Graham has been told that
Carl Cort and Marcus Gayle are not for sale by
Wimbledon.
24.8.99
- Tony Cottee and Andy Impey are the
two players from Leicester City who have been
implicated as those responsible for tickets
issued to them falling into the hands of touts
and allowing Spurs fans to be in amongst the
Foxes followers at Wembley for the Worthington
Cup. They both face disrepute charges and heavy
fines if found guilty.
- John Scales is struggling to
overcome his calf strain in time to face Leeds
United on Saturday.
- Football 365 have revealed that Roma
and Barcelona were the clubs who made summer £21
million bids for Sol Campbell. Meanwhile, it is
said that Spurs have offered Sol £23,000 a week
in line with what they are paying David Ginola,
but the Tottenham captain has said that the time
for contract talks is the end of the season.
Therefore, it will be nine months before any
further movement on this topic is likely to be
made.
- Clive Wilson has signed a one year
deal at Cambridge United.
- Luke Young has been called up for
the England Under-21 squad to play Poland and
Luxembourg in the next few weeks.
- Spurs reserves drew 2-2 with their
North London rivals at St. Albans tonight. Both
goals came from the penalty spot, both converted
by Stephen Clemence.
23.8.99
- Tottenham have revealed that they
turned down two £21 million bids for Sol
Campbell this summer. Thought to be from clubs in
Spain and Italy, this news will shock Manchester
United, who were preparing a £15 million offer
according to Sunday's papers. It is also reported
that Roma are set to make another £21 million
bid for Sol. A Spurs spokesman said "We are
not interested in selling Sol Campbell and
anyway, Manchester United do not have enough
money to buy him.
- Oyvind Leonhardsen has said that
Tottenham's style suits his lay and although
things didn't work out at Liverpool for him, he
will not criticise the club, but let his football
speak for itself. He said "I have joined a
club that is going ahead, we are making progress
in every game."
- With the England squad for the
qualifiers against Poland and Luxembourg to be
named this week, a number of Spurs players will be
anxiously listening for the call. Darren Anderton
will hope that his good early season form will
see him back in the fold, while Sol Campbell will
definitely miss out, he hopes to be back for the
Leeds United match on Saturday, but will be
lacking match fitness. Tim Sherwood, Chris Perry,
Ian Walker and Les Ferdinand have all been
playing well and hope to have made enough of an
impact to be included in the squad.
- TeamTalk reports that Spurs were
watching Lucas Neill and Paul Shaw of Millwall on
Saturday and could swoop with £1 million bids
for each player. Having made a bad start to their
Second division campaign, the Lions could do with
some money to strengthen their squad and may find
it hard to hold onto their prize assets.
- Ugo Ehiogu has said that he has no
desire to leave Villa Park. The Aston Villa
centre-half had been linked with a move to
Tottenham during the summer.
- Charlton full-back Gary Poole,
formerly of Spurs, has had to retire following a
serious knee injury.
22.8.99
- Reports in today's papers are
hinting that Spurs may be on the brink of selling
Sol Campbell. Manchester United are short of
defenders with Wes Brown and Ronny Johnsen out
for the season and see Campbell or Ugo Ehiogu as
suitable replacements in time for the Champions
League; the deadline being next week. A fee of
around £15 million was mentioned, but nothing
concrete has materialised yet.
- Tottenham scouts were at Stoke today
to watch Millwall again. It is believed that they
are keeping tabs on Lions midfielder, Neil Harris.
Manager Keith Stevens has denied that Tottenham
have made a bid for the player and said that the
speculation could unsettle the youngster.
- Tottenham could be in for Gabriel
Milito of Independiente of Argentina. He would be
available for £3 million and would be added to a
roster of top defenders at the club, but as we
know, GG does like to collect defenders. Media
Monitor says "We have no interest in this
player."
- GG has ruled out a bid for Radek
Bejbl of Athletico Madrid. Tottenham were linked
with the Czech midfielder last season, but the
player has just signed a new contract and Graham
has stated that he was not interested anyway.
- This weekends transfer talk has
linked Tottenham with Wimbledon again, but this time it is with Carl Cort and Jason Euell. The
story follows an £8 million interest in Marcus
Gayle last week, but of the two mentioned Carl
Cort is the more likely as he is the target man
Spurs would be seeking and is young enough to be
regarded as an investment at £6 million in terms
of goals. Euell may be considered as too similar
to Iversen in style. Media Monitor says "We
have had no discussions regarding any players from
Wimbledon."
- Another forward linked to Spurs is
Juventus' Uruguayan Daniel Fonseca. However, his
similarity to Ginola and the undoubted high wages
he would require would write off any bid for the
striker.
21.8.99
- Spurs win 2-1 at Sheffield Wednesday.
Goals by Ferdinand and Leonhardsen. Tottenham are
top of the League table! It is the first time
Tottenham have won three consecutive matches for
three years and the first time they have been top
of the league for 13 years.
20.8.99
- Sam Hammam has slapped a not for
sale notice on Marcus Gayle after rumours that
Tottenham would follow Leicester City's lead by
making an offer for the Wimbledon striker.
- Allan Nielsen will be unavailable
for tomorrow's game at Sheffield Wednesday and
Darren Anderton may also miss out after picking
up a calf injury.
- Willem Korsten has aggravated his
ankle injury and will not be fully fit for
another two weeks.
- David Ginola is out to prove that he
can produce the goods in away games by turning it
on at Hillsborough tomorrow. GG is happy with his
form at White Hart Lane, but is intent on
achieving results and that means picking up
points on Tottenham's travels.
19.8.99
- Don't laugh, but Tottenham are
apparently trailing the Argentinian striker who
missed three penalties in the Copa America
against Columbia, Martin Palmero. His club Boca
Juniors wanted £13 million for him prior to the
tournament, but after his spot-kick debacle, his
price plummeted. Let's hope this is all paper
talk and that they are really spying on some
talented youngster who will take the world by
storm.
- David Ginola has restated his fear
that Tottenham will not challenge strongly for
honours unless they spend big money on bringing
the top class players to White Hart Lane. He
wants the club to be a viable option for stars
when they are available to move on and feels that
it would be important to sign some players to aid
the UEFA Cup campaign.
- Sol Campbell looks set to miss
England's Euro 2000 qualifiers against Luxembourg
and Poland because of the calf strain he suffered
against West Ham United.
- Sheffield Wednesday are to report
Emerson Thome's agent for touting him around
clubs even though he is still an Owl. long linked
with Spurs, Thome may interest many other Premier
League clubs although rumours persist that
Tottenham is his destination of choice.
- Manchester United are being rumoured
to make a £6 million bid for Aston Villa's
centre-half, Ugo Ehiogu. The strapping defender
has been linked with Tottenham throughout the
summer.
- The two operations on Steffen
Iversen's right knee nearly ended his career.
Stef said that he has been working to develop a
more muscular appearance, which has helped him in
the hurly-burly of the Premier League. This is
the first season he has felt really fit since he
arrived from Rosenborg and he hopes that his good
early season form will continue.
18.8.99
- Coventry City have agreed a fee for
Robbie Keane of Wolverhampton Wanderers. The
young Irishman had long been a rumoured transfer
target of Spurs, but if he can agree personal
terms with the Sky Blues (something he failed to
do with Middlesbrough, who also agreed a fee) he
will stay in the Midlands.
- Chris Perry is hoping that playing
for Spurs will enhance his prospects of an
England call-up, especially with his Spurs
colleague Sol Campbell ruled out with a calf
strain.
- GG has been sending scouts to his
old club Millwall to watch players, but mystery
surrounds his target. It was widely thought that
defender Mark Bircham was the original star being
observed, but now rumour has it that forward Paul
Shaw (Ex-Arsenal) and young striker Neil Harris
could be who Spurs are interested in. It is
thought that a £800,000 offer for Harris might secure the player's signature from the cash
strapped Lions.
- Stephen Carr has been selected in
the Republic of Ireland squad for their three
Euro 2000 qualifiers in a week. They play
Yugoslavia in Dublin, Croatia in Zagreb and Malta
in Valletta.
- Steffen Iversen after having
problems finding his passport (again) and nearly
missing his flight because he was playing video
games at Stansted, flew back from Turkey where
the Norway squad were to play a friendly, but
this was postponed following the earthquake in
that country. A rapidly arranged friendly
against Lithuania has been arranged for this
evening and both Iversen and Leonhardsen were
expected to play some part in the proceedings.
- Chris Armstrong is ready to return
to training following his hernia operation and he
will be put into the reserve side as soon as he
is ready. If things go to plan, he could be in
contention for a place in the first team by the
time they play Bradford City on September 12.
- Rumours suggest that Benito Carbone
may be on his way to Aston Villa for £2.5
million. The Sheffield Wednesday forward has been
linked with Spurs and the price, if not the style
of the player, would certainly interest GG. The
player is expected to have talks with his club
about his future there.
- The 2001 FA Cup Final (when a year
ends in one) could be hosted by the Millennium
Stadium in Cardiff.
- The club have issued an unreserved
apology for the chaos over the season ticket
distribution that has plagued the ticket office.
However, they did not mention whether any
compensation would be offered for those who
missed any of the first two matches. Telephone
software, increased number of calls, an
unexpectedly large number of applications and
postal delays were all quoted as reasons for the
nightmare situation occurring, but then fans have
alleged they have been moved from their regular
seats and to much money taken from their accounts
too.
- Neil Smith, former Spurs reserve
player, has joined Reading from Fulham.
- Former Spurs centre-half, David
Tuttle, has rejoined his old Crystal Palace boss
Harry Bassett at Barnsley.
- GG has said that he thinks Chelsea
will win the Premier League this season. He also
added that you can't really have more than half a
dozen over-30's in the side and his plan at
Tottenham is to buy for now and the future.
- A report from Sky Text says that
Aston Villa, Spurs, Arsenal and a number of
Spanish clubs are interested in Feyenoord
defender Bert Konterman. He has been involved in
the Dutch national side since the World Cup and
is rated at £10 million !! I've never heard of
him though.
- John Scales was involved in a minor
car crash today. It remains to see if this will
prevent him playing for Tottenham on Saturday.
17.8.99
- Sheffield Wednesday pay rebel,
Emerson Thome, is unlikely to be the subject of a
bid by Tottenham. They were interested in the
player last season, but with the purchase of the
excellent Perry, the recovery to fitness of
Scales and the development of Ledley King and
Luke Young, another central defender would be
surplus to requirements. And when did you think
you would hear that statement about a Tottenham
squad ??
- David Ginola has blasted the French
coach for not telling him why he has been left
out of the squad for their next international
match. He was told by Roger Lemerre that the door
was still open for a return, but now Ginola has
been excluded from the 40 best players from his
home country, he does not think he stands a
chance - especially after winning the two Player
of the Year awards last season, without any
recognition from the national manager.
- Darren Anderton has a slight calf
strain and should be fit to play at Hillsborough
on Saturday against Sheffield Wednesday. He may
have forced himself into the England squad to be
named at the end of the week by Kevin Keegan, as
his sparkling form in the first few games has
attracted the England coach's eye.
- Spurs reserves drew 3-3 at St.
Albans last night with the goals came from Ruel
Fox, Neale Fenn and a Stephen Clemence penalty.
16.8.99
- John Scales has said that despite
two wins, the side must stop giving away silly
goals.
- Following his claims that Francis
Jeffers dived for the two penalties on Saturday,
Ian Walker may be investigated by the FA over his
comments.
- Tim Sherwood has said that the
players want Darren Anderton to resolve his
contract wrangle and stay at White Hart Lane as
nobody wanted to lose quality players from the
side. He said he had not seen him play better
than he is at the moment and that it is not
affecting team spirit or Anderton's own form if
the way he is playing is anything to go by.
- David Pleat has been in touch with
Peterborough United boss, Barry Fry, about the
club's two top young talents - Simon Davies and
Matthew Etherington. They were on trial at Old
Trafford recently and Pleat was re-establishing
Tottenham's interest in the two midfielders, but
no move is expected until the end of the current
season as Peterborough wil be looking to escape
from the Third Division first before selling
their prize assets.
- David Ginola has told Sky that he is
glad he signed his three year deal at Tottenham
and is hoping to bring back the glory years to
White Hart Lane. He said that the defence is
looking very good and he hopes to score more
goals and have more "assists" this
season to get Spurs into the top six and another
European spot next season. He is looking forward
to the UEFA Cup and feels that although
Tottenham are unseeded, they have nothing to fear
as they will play well against the big teams
should they be drawn against them.
- The ticket chaos reigned supreme
again on Saturday, with many fans still not
having possession of their season ticket despite
the money being taken from their accounts in
early June. It appears that vouchers being issued
to allow people in were queued for before matches
and the process took so long many missed goals on
Monday and Saturday.
15.8.99
- Tottenham have today been linked
with an £8 million interest in Wimbledon's
Marcus Gayle as a way of solving the forward
crisis at Tottenham. Leicester City have
reportedly had a £4.5 million bid rejected. For
the asking price, Tottenham have said they would
want the finished article and I wouldn't have
thought that it would have been this player. It
is worrying that Wimbledon is seen as the source
of our salvation with previous rumours linking us
with Hartson, although if you are going to spend
that sort of cash then Cort may be the better
option as he has youth on his side.
- John Gregory has said that Aston
Villa have withdrawn their £5.5 million bid for
Robbie Keane. He said that they had offered
Wolverhampton Wanderers 11/12ths of the asking
price and if there were that many Premier League
clubs lining up to pay the £6 million asking
price, they could have him !!
- Reports have linked former Spurs
boss Terry Venables with a return to management
as Newcastle United are thought to want him to
link up with Alan Shearer when Ruud Gullitt
finally gets the sack.
14.8.99
- Tottenham came from behind twice
today to beat Everton 3-2 at White Hart Lane. Two
penalties for the visitors (both for trips by
Walker on Jeffers) gave Everton the advantage,
but goals from Sherwood, Leonhardsen and Iversen
gave Spurs the three points. George Graham has
said that if you want entertainment, then White
Hart Lane is the place to be where you can see
Tottenham excite you, just like all GG's teams !!
- Emerson Thome, the Sheffield
Wednesday centre-half, may be on the verge of
leaving the Hillsborough club if they do not meet
his wage demands. He may ask for a transfer and
Tottenham who have been long admirers of the
player could head a host of clubs vying for his
services. However, it is likely that the Owls
would want around £7.5 million and this could
deter Spurs from entering the race for his
signature.
- It has been revealed that Alan Sugar
has paid Darren Anderton £1 million to have the
condition in his contract removed which means he
must be paid the same as the top earner at the
club. This has not eased contract talks as
Anderton has still not signed and is holding out
for more than the £23,000 a week offered
according to reports.
- The programme for today's match
revealed that two further foreign youngsters will
be joining the Academy soon. Both Ludvig Norbet
and Yannick Kamanan are
from France.
- Rumours are that David Pleat and
Charlie Woods are set to fly to Argentina to look
at players in the South American country. Rumours
still persist that Claudio Cannigia may be a
target (although a transfer to Atalanta may be on
the cards), but hopefully they will unearth a
young or unheard of player who will serve Spurs
as well as Ossie and Ricky.
13.8.99
- Francis Jeffers, who last week put
in a transfer request to leave Goodison Park, is
reported to be in the starting line-up against
Spurs tomorrow.
- GG has said that he wants White Hart
Lane to become a boredom free zone. He was happy
that Tottenham won on Monday, but was also
pleased that the team produced some good
football.
- Former Spurs youngster and South
African midfielder Quinton Fortune is about to
sign for Manchester United for £2m from Atletico
Madrid.
- Espen Baardsen, Oyvind Leonhardsen
and Steffen Iversen have all been selected for
Norway's friendly with Turkey later this month.
- Following chaos at the Ticket Office
on Monday, when people were spending up to 6
hours trying to sort out their season tickets,
the club have issued this statement on Media
Monitor : "We have been in the fortunate
position this season to have been inundated with
season ticket requests, taking us to record
levels. Such was the overwhelming interest, we
had to make an additional order of season ticket
books to facilitate the demand.
The delivery of the new books reached White Hart
Lane on Monday, August 2. These were dispatched
within 48 hours by the Royal Mails special
delivery service but many clearly did not reach
their destination and thats where the
problems began.
We would like to apologise to our loyal fans and
thank them for their support and patience. We
also assure supporters that the problem has been
addressed."
- George Graham has said that he is a
big fan of Steffen Iversen. He praised his
heading and shooting attributes and went on that
his athleticism is necessary in the Premiership
these days.
12.8.99
- Oyvind Leonhardsen says he will be
back to his best against Everton on Saturday
after a less than satisfying performance against
Newcastle United on Monday. He said that there
were a few busy days leading up to that match and
he will have had a more relaxed approach to the
game against the Toffees.
- Although Sol Campbell, Justin
Edinburgh, Chris Armstrong and Ramon Vega are all
unavailable for Saturday's match, GG hopes that
Les Ferdinand, Allan Nielsen and Willem Korsten
will all be up for selection.
11.8.99
- While most of the country were
watching the eclipse, Leeds United stole in to
buy Darren Huckerby from Coventry City in a deal
worth £5.5 million eventually. The player would
have been an ideal buy for Tottenham, but
obviously GG and David Pleat have decided he is
not one of the players who would come into the
category of "the finished article".
- Allan Nielsen will be in the Danish
squad to play Holland in a Euro 2000 qualifier
next month. Paul McVeigh has been called up by
Northern Ireland.
- Steffen Iversen's dad - Odd - has
wagered £100 at 33-1 on his son being the
Premier League's top scorer.
- Les Ferdinand has revealed that he should have not been playing in the first two
games of the season as he was not fully over the
ankle injury he got in the behind closed doors
friendly game against Millwall, but he has been
so fed up with his injury record that he was
determined to be in the side.
- Allegedly, GG is looking to Sweden
for a forward and has narrowed his sights to
include Marcus Allback of Orgryte. The forward
has just returned to Sweden after an unsuccessful
spell in Italy with Bari and would be available
for around £800,000. The club's manager is an
old friend of Graham's and has been told that the
Spurs boss is impressed by the second top scorer
in the Swedish First Division this season.
- On a similar thread, Ole Gunnar
Solskjaer has said that he will stay at Old
Trafford despite being linked with Leeds United
and Tottenham.
10.8.99
- Les Ferdinand is struggling with an
ankle injury, but hopes he will be fit for
Saturday's home match against Everton. He damaged
the ankle in a first-half clash with the
Newcastle keeper and did not play in the second
half of the match. He added that he hoped this
would be the start of a run so that he could show
the Spurs fans the real Les Ferdinand. If he can strike up a partnership with
Steffen Iversen, he
thinks he can save the club a big fee for another
forward.
- White Hart Lane is on the reserve
list of grounds included in England's 2006 World
Cup bid. The Spurs ground could be selected if
the capacity is increased in the near future.
- Rupert Murdoch is allegedly intent
on buying shares in eight Premier League clubs to
maintain TV rights when they come up for renewal.
If he buys less than 10% of shares, he is
breaking no rules and he is reported in the Daily
Mirror as targeting Spurs, Leeds United,
Newcastle United and Sunderland amongst others.
- George Graham has praised Chris
Perry and John Scales for their solid display
against Newcastle United yesterday. John Scales
said that now he is fit he wants to prove he is
worth a new contract and do well for the club. GG
said he has told the players to get points in the
bag over the first two months of the season and
not worry too much about the performances, but he
said last night he got both.
- The following clip comes from the
London Evening Standard
"Alan Sugar, it seems, is developing a
remarkably self-deprecating sense of humour. Not
generally known for his laugh-a-minute nature,
the Spurs chairman sent a picture of former
coaches Christian Gross and Gerry Francis at
Jurgen Klinsmann's testimonial to Andy Gross, the
Swiss barrister who acts for the German star and
the man who persuaded Sugar to hire the former

- George Graham has said in an
interview in The Sunday Times today that he is
frustrated that he does not have the money he
would like to spend to bolster Tottenham's squad.
he knows that it is not good enough at the
moment, but is tagged with being able to achieve
success without spending big money, which
restricts who he can buy. He sounded as though he
may not be able to take the club as far as he
wants because of the financial restrictions place
don him - one reason he gave for leaving Leeds
United.
- GG also said that West Ham looked
sharper than Tottenham yesterday and he hoped for
three points against Newcastle United tomorrow. He
stated that he looked to the end of October as a
guide to how things were going and would hope to
pick up as many points as he could between now
and then.
- Darren Anderton has said he is hurt
by allegations made by Tottenham chairman Alan
Sugar. In a News of the World report, he claims
that the chairman has not been involved and he
would like the opportunity to discuss the matter
with him. He felt that Sugar should have talked
to him before going to the press and despite everything that has been said, Darren still wants
to stay with Spurs - the thought of going to
another club, let alone another country, is a

Tottenham. Another report claims that Leeds

tabs on the situation, where it alleges that
Anderton wants £40,000 per week to stay.

squad for the first game.
- It has been reported that David
Ginola has denigrated his team-mates in an
article in a French newspaper. He was alleged t
have said that he would have stood out even more
if he had been playing in a side with better
players last season, but felt that it was right
that the players and football writers voted him
Player of the Year. Not at all full of himself
then (if this story is true). Wonder how the rest
of the team will take it ?

the Wimbledon strikers from Tottenham. It is not
known which one of Carl Cort, John Hartson (not
an option surely !!) and Jason Euell was the
intended target.
- Darren Anderton and his contract
wrangles continue. He has been slammed by Alan
Sugar for concentrating on the money side of
things, although one report says that the
problems hinges around details of a testimonial match which would be part of any new contract.
Another report says it is over the length of
contract with Spurs wanting to offer a longer
contract, while Anderton only wants a two year
extension.

be on the bench for tomorrow's game at Upton
Park. Justin Edinburgh could be in the line-up to

level but if everybody keeps their head it will
be all right." Wonder blue .. I mean, who he
meant ??

- Oyvind Leonhardsen has agreed a move
to Tottenham subject to the usual medical (which
probably means he won't be coming then !). A £3
million deal was agreed with Liverpool and the
player has said that he is pleased to be joining
another big club who will be participating in
Europe next season (unlike Liverpool). Contrary
as usual, Media Monitor quotes David Pleat as
saying that Anderton will not be put up for sale.
- Darren Anderton has reportedly
turned down Tottenham's best contract offer and
may now be sold to avoid losing him on a free
transfer at the end of the season. Talks are said
to be continuing, but if the best isn't good
enough for Dazza (who still loves Tottenham),
then some other side will probably pay what he
wants.
- Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed in
his autobiography that if Paul Gascoigne had
joined Manchester United, he would not have had
the troubles he has since experienced !!
- Justin Edinburgh is looking forward
to his testimonial year with the club buzzing in
contrast to the same time eighteen months ago,
when spirits were very low. A good campaign could
see him reap the benefits and a big match is to
be staged at The Lane at the end of the season to
pay tribute to the loyal full-back.
- Ramon Vega has had to have further
surgery on his ankle and will miss the first six
weeks of the season.
- Alan Marriott has left Spurs to join
Lincoln City on a free transfer.
4.8.99

as possible Tottenham buys have seemed to have
slipped through the net. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink
is on the verge of a £12 million move to
Athletico Madrid and Youri Djorkaeff is about to
join Kaiserslautern of Germany.
- Steffen Iversen is hoping that his
rich scoring form in pre-season carries into the
new season and that his first injury free
pre-season at Tottenham is a sign of good things
to come.
- Willem Korsten has pronounced
himself fit for the start of the season and is in
consideration for the starting line-up on
Saturday, but injury to Steffen Freund rules him
out of the opener against West Ham United and
maybe longer.
- Sol Campbell has said that Manchester United had their fair share of luck in
achieving the Treble last season, but he is not
in awe of them and hopes Tottenham can make
inroads into the top few clubs in the country. He
reiterated that he has no immediate desire to
leave Tottenham and that his main aim is to help
Spurs have a good UEFA Cup run and do well in the
Premier League.
- Wimbledon have signed Norwegian
Trond Andersen, who Tottenham had on trial last
season. The 24 year-old centre back will cost
about £2.5 million from Molde.
3.8.99
- Patrick Mbomba, the Cameroon
international playing for Cagliari in Italy has
been told he can leave, thus sparking interest at
Tottenham. The player would cost around £2
million and his striking partner - Roberto Muzzi,
who was watched by Arsenal recently - has also
been told he will be off-loaded. Media Monitor
quoted David Pleat as saying Mbomba was a name
that had not cropped up.

bitten the dust for the time being with George
Graham saying that silly money is being asked for
average players and besides transfers were done
by the Chairman and David Pleat.
- Rumours are reported that Tottenham
may be set to put Darren Anderton on the transfer
list as his contract talks have not progressed
and Spurs are worried that they may lose out on a
fee if he goes to the end of his contract and
gets a Bosman. The report stated that Tottenham
could be looking for £5 million for the
midfielder and that Manchester United would be at
the head of the queue to buy the England star.
However, I would have thought he would have been
worth more than £5 million, but we will watch
carefully as things move on. The player has said
that he wants to stay at Tottenham and has bought
a new house in the area, indicating he does not
want to move.
- St. Matthews of East London won the
National 5-a-side championships on Hackney
Marshes today. Sporting a Spurs kit (last
season's home strip) they beat Vision to take the
trophy 1-0. They then played out a 0-0 draw
against a "dream team" including
Chivers, Paul Allen, Mark Falco (back on home
turf on the Marshes) and Milijia Aleksic. Also in
the side were R.Ferdinand and F.Lampard jnr.
