The last Sunday before the transfer window closes and a whole pile
of links about player who may or may not be coming to Spurs are in
the papers. So, here goes ...
The People reckon that Dimitar Berbatov will complete his move
to Manchester United by the close of the window
for a fee of £25 million.
He will be replaced, the People tells us, by Real Zaragoza's striking
pair Diego Milito and Sergio Garcia, as well as Wigan
Athletic's Emile Heskey.
Former Spurs striker Mido added fuel
to the Heskey fire by saying that Wigan manager Steve Bruce wants to
buy him to replace Heskey. However, Heskey later stated that
he was going nowhere.
The News of the World claim that Tottenham
will demand the inclusion of 20 year old striker Fraizer Campbell
as part of the deal worth £30 million.
Depending on whether the Berbatov deal goes
through, the Sunday Mirror claim that either Manchester United or
Spurs may bid for Newcastle United forward Michael Owen, who
is refusing a new contract at the club.
The Mail on Sunday think he could be
available for as little as £2 million, as he would be able to leave
on a free transfer at the end of the season. He will cost £5
million according to the People, but they think only Manchester
United are interested in him.
Midfielder Lassana Diarra of
Portsmouth will be moving to Spurs for £12 million if his club fail
to offload a number of players to reduce the wage bill at Fratton
Park.
The Independent on Sunday think that a deal for Zenit St. Petersburg
midfielder Andrei Arshavin might still go through before the end of
the window.
The News of the World run a piece stating that midfielder
Kevin-Prince Boateng wants to leave
Spurs, as he is in the reserves and does not have a squad number.
The Sunday People reckon that chairman Daniel Levy is being
called a skin-flint because he only wanted to pay £12.8 million for
27 year old Zenit St. Petersburg midfielder Andrei Arshavin.
Jermaine Jenas and David Bentley are included in the
England squad for the World Cup 2010 qualifiers
against Andorra and Croatia next week.
England Under-17s beat Italy 2-0 at
Northampton Town this afternoon, with John Bostock playing
for England and Mirko Ranieri featuring in goal for Italy.

Spurs have announced that they have completed the signing of Russian
striker Roman Pavlyuchenko from
Spartak Moscow. He joins the club for a fee reported to be
around £14 million.
Tottenham have been drawn away to Newcastle United in the Third Round
of the League Cup.
The transfer of Dimitar Berbatov to Manchester United is
expected to go through this weekend for a fee of £25 million plus a
£3 million "adjustment" according to the Daily Mirror, to compensate
Tottenham for the tapping up of the player through the media.
Some papers claim a late bid by Bayern Munich might challenge
United's position, but it is thought that he will move to Old
Trafford when Spurs have signed two new strikers. The Mirror
also claim that Spurs are closing on Sporting Lisbon's defensive
midfielder Miguel Veloso, while the Daily Mail put a new name
in the frame, with Anderlecht's defender Nicolas Pareja, who
had just returned from Beijing with a gold medal having played for
Argentina in the Olympic Games. The Times think that Pablo
Zabaleta's move to Manchester City will free up Croatian defender
Vedran Corluka to join Spurs. Russian midfielder Andrei
Arshavin's asking price was £6 million more than Spurs were
willing to pay for the 27 year old, with an offer of £16 million
rejected by Zenit St. Petersburg. The Daily Express report
that Celtic are seeking to sign midfielder Kevin Prince Boateng
on loan for a season with a view to making the deal permanent.
On the website of Guillame Ballague, the Spanish football
journalist, it is claimed that Tottenham are offering £10.47 million
for Real Zaragoza striker Diego Milito and £4.83 million for
team-mate and striker Sergio Garcia, but the offer for Garcia
may not meet the asking price.
Midfielder Didier Zokora has signed a
new contract at Spurs taking him through to 2012.

Tottenham have been drawn to play against Polish side Wisla Krokow
with the first leg at home on 18th September and the second leg in
Poland on 2nd October.
Spurs are being linked with a move for 36 year old Swedish striker
Henrik Larsson, who will be out of contract at Helsingborg in
November. Everton and Feyenoord are
also in for the former Celtic and Manchester United forward the
Daily Mail says. The Times report that Tottenham have come to
a verbal agreement with Manchester United to sell them Dimitar
Berbatov once the transfer of Roman Pavlyuchenko is
completed, although Alex Ferguson is mithering in the papers about
how pessimistic he is about signing any more players in an attempt
to knock down the price and take another pop at Daniel Levy.
Other stories claim that Damien Comolli wants to keep the
striker beyond the transfer window and the Sun claimed in the
afternoon, that Bayern Munich (who pursued him when he was with
Bayer Leverkusen) are interested in buying the Bulgarian. The Guardian regurgitate the Miguel Veloso rumour, while
Andrei Arshavin has told the Daily Express that it looks like he
will be staying with Zenit St. Petersburg (backed up by a comment
from the club's manager after the UEFA Super Cup match, when he said
Spurs would not meet their £22 million asking price), much the same way that
Fredi Kanoute has come out and told the media that he will be
continuing his career at Sevilla. Football 365 reckon the
absence of Diego Milito and Sergio Garcia from the

that he thinks Dimitar Berbatov's sulky demeanour and
attitude disappoints him, making him think that Tottenham might
become a feeder club for the top four if he goes to Manchester
United. Sky Sports website reckon that as soon as Spurs and
Manchester City enter into talks, a deal for Croatian defender
Vedran Corluka will be agreed and the Setanta Sports website says
that Tottenham are in talks with Real Zaragoza about the transfer of
goalkeeper Cesar Sanchez. It is not yet known if
Zaragoza will ask for a fee for the 36 year old keeper.
Norwich City are interested in taking central defender Troy
Archibald-Henville on loan.
Former Spurs defender Luke Young
has left Middlesbrough to join Aston Villa for £6 million.

Having been ready to pay up to £15 million on West Ham United
striker Dean Ashton (Lord knows why) and being quoted £18
million (which makes him almost twice as good as Dimitar Berbatov),
they have turned their attention to Diego Forlan of Atletico
Madrid. The Daily Star claims that Vedran Corluka will
agree an £8 million deal to join Spurs after agreeing personal
terms. Spurs are also supposedly interested in Mateo
Musacchio, the 17 year old Argentinian central defender, who
plays for Real Madrid Castilla (Real Madrid's reserves). He
only signed for the Spanish side this year though.

The deal to bring Derby County goalkeeper Stephen Bywater to
Tottenham has fallen through, even though the player had a medical
on Friday. It is not known exactly why the transfer has
collapsed, but Spurs are reported to be looking at other options,
including Spanish keeper Cesar Sanchez of Real Zaragoza, who
would only cost a nominal fee, according to the Daily Mail.
The Sun claim that Spurs are set to sell Dimitar Berbatov to
Manchester United to fund a £32 million deal to bring Valencia's
David Villa to White Hart Lane. A number of different
sources reckon that Tottenham are making a £9.5 million offer for
Manchester City's Croatian right back Vedran Corluka in an
odd move when we signed a £9 million right back in January, in the
shape of Alan Hutton. Some sources put it at only £7
million though. So that's alright then !! The
Independent appear to be a bit more grounded, but still think that
Spurs will sign Andrei Arshavin from Zenit St. Petersburg
with a bid that is improved from their £16 million first offer.
The article says that he would be on about £50,000 a week and not
become the "highest paid player in the world." The Villa deal
is said to be worth £100,000 a week to the Spanish striker.
Not something the club have approached in terms of salary to any
player and one which would smash the pay structure wide open.

Zenit St. Petersburg claim that Tottenham made an offer of £15.8
million, but this was nowhere near the £24 million they want for
Andrei Arshavin. Portsmouth are supposedly still
interested in defender Younes Kaboul and want to sign him up
before Sunday's Community Shield game with Manchester United,
allegedly for £5 million.

The People run a headline that claims that Juande Ramos will
return to Spain to bid £18 million for Atletico Madrid's 29 year old
Uruguayan striker Diego Forlan. They say Tottenham have
had one bid rejected already, but may have an alternative target in
Monaco's Brazilian forward Nene, who would cost £8 million
and holds a Spanish passport. The Mail on Sunday say that if
Tottenham want to obtain the services of Russian midfielder
Andrei Arshavin, they will have to pay Zenit St. Petersburg £19
million and pay him the highest wages in the world. It's not
going to happen is it ? But it is if you believe the Sunday
Mirror, who inform us that the move will go through this week.
The News of the World reports that Aaron Lennon sensibly does
not want to leave Spurs for Newcastle United and it looks like
Younes Kaboul won't be moving to Portsmouth, as the South Coast

The NoTW also claims that a £18 million bid for West Ham United
forward Dean Ashton has also been knocked back, as they don't
want to sell, while Tottenham's reserve striker Andy Barcham
is wanted by Chesterfield and Bournemouth. Good news in the
