The only transfer deadline day deal
involving Tottenham was the sale of midfielder Danny Murphy
to Fulham.
Tottenham were drawn against Anorthosis Famagusta of Cyprus in the
First Round proper of the UEFA Cup. The first leg will be at
White Hart Lane on September 20th and the second leg away in Larnaca
on October 4th.
Deadline day and the papers were guessing who would move where.
The Sun had speculated that Tottenham would sign either Morten
Gamst Pedersen of Blackburn Rovers or Portsmouth's Matthew
Taylor.
Paul Robinson and Jermain Defoe
are Tottenham's representatives in the England squad for the Euro
2008 qualifying games against Israel and Russia next month.
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR TEAM NEWS : - Anthony
Gardner is injured, but will be replaced by the returning
Younes Kaboul. Martin Jol has said that Michael
Dawson is not yet 100% ready to feature, but Aaron Lennon
might play, even though he is lacking match practice.
Gareth Bale will continue on the left of midfield, although
Darren Bent's thigh injury rules him out again.
FULHAM TEAM NEWS : - With Fulham doing
so much business on transfer deadline day, who knows who will turn
out for them tomorrow ?? Jimmy Bullard, Hameur Bouazza, Lee
Cook, Brian McBride and Aaron Hughes are all injured.

Depending on which Sunday paper you read either Martin Jol
has three games to save his job (Sunday Mirror) or he is a s safe as
houses and has a grovelling apology courtesy of director Paul
Kemsley ringing in his ears) News of the World). The
People say that the meeting in Spain last week saw Kemsley and club
secretary John Alexander spend five hours listening to
Juande Ramos spelling out how he intended to revolutionise
Tottenham into contenders at home and abroad. So impressed
does the People reckon they were that they offered him a five year
deal to take over at Spurs. Any such offer has since been
denied by the club.
Behind the scenes, the News of the World also reveals in their
interview with Kemsley (from his yacht in the South of France ...
and him a man who said he ahs had a season ticket since he was seven
... so what is he doing in the South of France when the club he is a
director of has a game against Manchester United ??) that he has no
intention of joining forces with his big mate Mike Ashley,
who bought out Newcastle United a couple of months back, to take
over at Tottenham. But once more, other papers differ in what
will happen in the boardroom. The Sunday People run a story
that Jurgen Klinsmann is to be lined up to front an American
bid to buy Spurs and he will clear out the existing management
structure as he takes control of running the whole club, while the
News of the World claim that the former German manager is wanted by
LA Galaxy to manage David Beckham and his team-mates.
On the playing side, Leicester City are
believed to be preparing a £1.5 million offer for midfielder
Danny Murphy, the News of the World reckons, while they also
claim that Spurs are ready to go to £10 million to solve the left
side of midfield issue by bidding for Blackburn Rovers' Norwegian
winger Morten Gamst Pedersen. The People claim that
Tottenham and Everton are battling to sign Plymouth Argyle's

It appears that the story that the Tottenham Hotspur manager's post
might be up for grabs ... which it isn't ... has attracted some of
the big guns of European club management to show an interest.
Or it would be if you believe the newspapers. The latest
manager who is supposed to be ready to jump into Martin Jol's
seat is Fabio Capello, who flew into London for a three hour
meeting at lunch-time yesterday. Only, it wasn't about the
Tottenham manager's job and he met nobody from Tottenham. So
what does 2+2 equal again ???
Dimitar Berbatov's agent claims that
Manchester United are interested in signing the Bulgarian forward
and that Daniel Levy has told him they will have a meeting in the
next few days to decide the striker's future. Manchester
United have said they did not make an offer for the Tottenham man.
Aston Villa are considering a £15 million bid to further reduce the

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR TEAM NEWS : - Gareth

It is days before a match with Manchester United, so guess what
story hit the news today ? Yes, United make a £21 million bid

Real Madrid join the party and put in a reported £20 million offer.
Tottenham are reported to want £40 million.
Daniel Levy has made a statement in a
question and answer session on the Spurs site to say that he is 100%
behind Martin Jol and that there was never any intention to
replace him as Head Coach. Levy also said that their meeting
cleared the air about a number of matters and there is no insistence
that Jol has to take Tottenham into the top four, but that is the
club's aim, with the last six years ebbing a better indication of
the progress made at Spurs rather than the last three games.
Paul Robinson has slammed the Spurs board for making moves to
replace Martin Jol after all he has done over the last two

Football 365 reveal that some little heard of Italian newspaper is
spreading rumours that Pascal Chimbonda is heading for Roma
and Fiorentina are keen to sign Aaron Lennon, but feel the
£17 million asking price is a bit steep. Egyptian striker
Mido is in demand it seems, with Birmingham City ready to
re-open talks on a deal with the Spurs forward, while Sunderland are
interested, but Niall Quinn's comments that
"Character is
important to us. The players showed it in abundance last season and
if you're not prepared to scrap in a Sunderland shirt, Roy Keane and
Sunderland is not the place for you," might count against the
heavily temperamental big man.

More on Hossam Ghaly's departure from Birmingham City, where he
hadn't signed for the promoted club. Apparently, the BBC site
reports that the Sun say that the Egyptian midfielder refused to
take part in a running session. The BBC themselves report that
Blues manager Steve Bruce was upset by Ghaly's attitude, which
included criticising him and the other players at the club and he
said that Ghaly was arrogant and insulting. With the player
virtually sold, Martin Jol signed up Kevin Prince Boateng
the next day and told the press that he will have a talk with Ghaly
about the situation.

leave the midfielder to return to Tottenham.
