A slightly disappointing day with no players
leaving or joining.
However, quite worryingly, Spurs are said to
be ready to bring in rubbish Derby County goalkeeper Stephen
Bywater as cover for the first choice two goalies.
Spurs are reported on the BBC Football website to have opened talks
with Russian striker Roman Pavlyuchenko of Spartak Moscow .
Nothing substantial has been agreed as yet, although his
international team-mate Andrei Arshavin has allegedly agreed
terms, although Tottenham are said to be a long way away from Zenit
St. Petersburg's price tag for the midfielder. In a really
unusual turn of affairs, the agent of Real Zaragoza striker Diego
Milito has said in a statement that Tottenham are not interested
in his client. Tottenham were scared off by the £14 million
asking price for the 29 year old forward, he said. Meanwhile,
elsewhere in Spain, Deportivo La Coruna's Argentine central defender
Fabricio Collochini is interesting Newcastle United and Spurs
... possibly as a replacement for Younes Kaboul, who looks
set to join Portsmouth for around £5 million. Blackburn Rovers
seem to think that players are going cheap these days and want to
spend £4 million of the £15 million down payment for David
Bentley on Aaron Lennon, who obviously is nowhere near as
good as the man Spurs have just signed.

In true Hollywood cop movie style,
Sunderland manager Roy Keane has given Younes Kaboul and
Steed Malbranque just 24 hours to decide whether they want to

have had a £10 million bid for Roman Pavlyuchencko rejected

while they are almost certain to sign Real Zaragoza striker Diego
Milito for around £8 million. They also claim that
Tottenham will sign Diego Capel from Sevilla and Roque
Santa Cruz from Blackburn Rovers. The Daily Mail have
Everton making a £10.75 million bid for four goal striker Darren
Bent, but after the hit-man showed great scoring form last
night, he must be worth at least £16.5 million. The Sun run a
story that Juande Ramos is looking for a suitable back-up keeper for
Heurelho Gomes and is considering Elfsborg keeper Johan Wiland

A number or papers today claim that Manchester United are stopping
their bidding for Dimitar Berbatov at £20 million, as they
feel a package, including wages, that could rise to £38 million is
too much, although the Sunday Times reckon that a £25 million deal
could be agreed, but the relationship between Alex Ferguson and
Daniel Levy is blocking it. The Sunday Express plump for a
£24 million deal taking place this week for the Bulgarian forward,
but also add that AC Milan, Barcelona and (more unlikely) Newcastle
United and Manchester City are also keen to purchase the player.
The News of the World report that Liverpool are making Robbie
Keane their sole transfer target, as they think he will look
better in red than Gareth Barry and if the deal goes through, the
Sunday Telegraph believe that Tottenham will use the money to buy
David Villa from Valencia, although Real Madrid and Manchester
United are both interested in the forward too. The Sunday
People think it will be Russians Andrei Arshavin and Roman
Pavlyuchenko who come in for Keane and Berbatov as the new
strike partnership at the Lane. A story on TeamTalk claims

Wiland. The 27 year old goalie says he is in no rush to

Late tonight a statement appeared on the
Spurs website from chairman Daniel Levy criticising the
managers of Manchester United and Liverpool for their public
comments about wanting to sign Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane
respectively against the wishes of THFC. Neither club had
reportedly been given any indication that Tottenham would sell nor
were they given permission to speak to the players involved.
However, Levy has said that both players now wish to leave for the
clubs who have expressed their desire to take them and THFC have
made official complaints to the Premier League about the behaviour
of those clubs. Levy went on to say the players have now
become negative influences within the dressing room and it perhaps
can be drawn from that they will be allowed to leave, but hopefully
in circumstances which suit Tottenham rather than their suitors.
Dimitar Berbatov will be a Manchester United player by the

It's all Spurs in the papers this morning, as the Sunday Express
reckon that Spurs have turned down a £20 million bid for Dimitar
Berbatov from Manchester United, but will sell for £25 million
(or £35 million in the Daily Star), although over at the News of the
World they claim that the club have struck a £24 million deal for
the sale, but it is on delay until Tottenham can secure a
replacement for the Bulgarian. Who that replacement is
concentrates the attention of many of the papers. The NoTW put
us in the frame for Blackburn Rovers' Roque Santa Cruz, while
the Mail on Sunday reckons it will be either Luis Garcia of
Espnayol and Roman Pavlyuchenko of Spartak Moscow and also
ponders on THFC making an £18 million swoop for Zenit St. Petersburg
midfielder Andrei Arshavin before Barcelona sign up the
Russian. The Sunday People continues Alex Ferguson's love of
all things Tottenham with a story that he wants Gus Poyet to
join him as his number two to replace the departing Carlos Queiroz.
The Sunday People write that Spurs could bid for West Ham United
central defender Matthew Upson as there are still doubts
about injury-hit duo Ledley King and Jonathan Woodgate. Why
then go for someone who is injury-hit themselves, unless we want to
go for a like-for-like replacement ?? The People seem to have
cornered the market on weird Tottenham stories this week, as they
sensibly claim that Blackburn Rovers might make a £5 million bid for
goalkeeper Paul Robinson (or £2 million in the NoTW), but
then claim that Juande Ramos has brought in Fulham's haphazard
keeper Tony Warner as cover for Heurelho Gomes !!
Haven't we got enough goalkeepers on the books and one of them must
be better than Warner ?? Another story the paper runs is that
Hull City have pulled out of talks about a loan for Ricardo Rocha
on the grounds that they didn't realise he was that short.
Television must put inches on you !! Warming to their subject,
they go on to tell us that Stoke City have been shocked by the £4
million price tag Spurs have put on defender Anthony Gardner.
Not half as shocked as we are !! The Potters are willing to
shell out £1.5 million. And still the People keep them coming,
with Fulham being set to make a £4 million bid for midfielder
Jamie O'Hara in the next 48 hours and they claim the youngster
will consider the move to have first team football (a story also
carried in the News of the World, who say that a loan deal was
refused). The News of the World reckon Everton are shirking at
paying £12 million for Darren Bent, but Sunderland are keen
on the Spurs striker, while the Stadium of light club are also
willing to pay £4 million for Steed Malbranque, with the
midfielder also interesting Manchester City and Aston Villa.

interesting Hull City and he may move either on a season long loan

Goalkeeper Paul Robinson has turned down a season long loan
move to West Bromwich Albion and is hoping to complete a transfer to
Aston Villa or Middlesbrough, although Villa have agreed a deal for

Because of our

White Hart Lane have been moved and Spurs will now play Wigan
Athletic on Sunday 21st September and Hull City on Sunday 5th
October.
Contrary to yesterday's story about Spurs being on the brink of
signing Espanyol's Luis Garcia and today's Sun story about a
£10 million deal, the Spanish club's chairman said they have not
received a bid from Spurs for the striker. Winger Charles
N'Zogbia is to hold talks with manager Kevin Keegan about his
future at Newcastle United, but is keen to move back to his native
London with Spurs or Arsenal.
The Daily Star report that Stoke City have
had a £1 million offer for defender Anthony Gardner knocked

The BBC website claims Spurs are close to signing Espanyol striker
Luis Garcia and Blackburn Rovers winger David Bentley.
The 27 year old Spaniard would cost around £8 million, while Bentley
would go for around £15 million. Meanwhile, Rafael Benitez has
said that Liverpool are interested in signing Robbie Keane
and claims that the two clubs are talking and he said he will what
comes out of it. The Daily Express claim that Espanyol keeper
Carlos Kameni turned down a £4.5 million move to White Hart
Lane because Tottenham wanted a clause in the contract preventing
him representing Cameroon in the African Cup of Nations. The
Sun runs a story claiming that Tottenham want to sell a whole team
of players and five substitutes (including
Young Pyo Lee,
Robbie Keane,
Younes Kaboul,

Tottenham are being linked to a move for Juan Arango, a winger
with Real Mallorca, as he wants a move to England this summer or so
say ClubCall. The Sun claim that it is between Spurs and
Arsenal as they try and sign the £15 million rated Real Madrid
midfielder Ruben de la Red. Spurs have reportedly
refused VfB Stuttgart's offer to take Kevin Prince Boateng on
loan.
A tribunal has set the fee for 16 year old
midfielder John Bostock at £700,000, which could rise to £1.2
million depending on certain conditions being met. Crystal
Palace chairman Simon Jordan said (from behind his sunglasses) that
he thought the decision was "scandalous" and that he was wondering
what he was doing in football (something that has passed through our
mind from time to time).

The Daily Mirror say that Blackburn Rovers are willing to sell

indicate that Tottenham are throwing players such as Paul

Malbranque will be allowed to leave White Hart Lane, with Aston
Villa keen to snap him up and also claim that Tottenham are
monitoring the move by Manchester City for Blackburn Rovers' keeper
Brad Friedel. Unfortunately, Valencia have denied any
interest in paying £8 million for Pascal Chimbonda.

It looks as though Spurs will be taking the field next season with no
recognised strikers. With Manchester United looking to step up
their interest in Dimitar Berbatov, although they only want
to pay £23 million rather than the £30 million Tottenham want, there
is news that the other two senior strikers might be leaving too.
The Daily Mirror, which carried the Berbatov story also reckon that
Sunderland want to prise Darren Bent away from White Hart
Lane for £12 million, with Aston Villa and Blackburn Rovers waiting
to see what happens. Over at the Sun, they run a story, which
we heard about last night (see
incoming), in
which Robbie Keane has handed a transfer request in to the
club as he wants to play for his boyhood heroes Liverpool.
Benitez wants him and is willing to offer Peter Crouch plus
£5 million to secure the Irishman's services. Tottenham have
