Christian
Ziege came on for the last ten minutes of the World Cup final for Germany,
in which they lost 0-2 to Brazil.
The
News of the World carries a report that Matthew Etherington is set to
join SCBC for £3.5 million soon. Would have thought that we
could have upped the ante for him seeing as how Rupert "the
Bear" Lowe runs such a top club or offered him in exchange for
one of their top players ... like Wayne Bridge
Goran
Bunjevcevic has told the official website that he hopes to overcome
his injuries, play a major part in the side and show what he can do
for the team next season.
Tottenham,
are supposedly sniffing around out of favour Newcastle United striker,
Carl Cort. The former Wimbledon front man will be hard pressed
to get past Alan Shearer and Craig Bellamy and his long injury history
makes him unlikely to be first choice at St. James Park this coming
season. It is rumoured that Tottenham might offer him a return
to London and a first team place. I would be very surprised if
this was true, as he has virtually been on the sick list the whole
time since he signed for United and Tottenham would need a large vote
of confidence from their medical staff before taking a chance on him -
especially for the quoted £7 million.
Tottenham
are linked in the Sunday Mirror with Atletico Madrid's out of contract
striker, Ismael Urzaiz. The forward is seen as cover for Les
Ferdinand, who is not thought to be up to the rigours of a full
season.
Preston
North End are said to be after midfielder Stephen Clemence.
The
Sunday People say that Spurs will complete the £1 million signing of
18 year old midfielder Jonathan Blondel this week, with the fee going
up conditional on further appearances.

Christian
Ziege is awaiting a decision on whether he will be in the German side to
face Brazil in the World Cup final tomorrow.

The
latest Deloitte and Touche report on the financial standings of
football clubs for the 2000-2001 season has shown Tottenham in fourth
place in the country. Making a £9.4 million profit, they
finished behind Manchester United, Liverpool and Leeds United.
It shows that the club is financially sound in a time when the ITV Digital
collapse has threatened many clubs with money constraints.
Winger
Matthew Etherington has put in a transfer request. Having
thought about his situation at Tottenham, he feels that the
opportunities for first team football will be better away from White
Hart Lane, having only made fleeting appearances in the Spurs side
over the last two years. I think this is a shame, as he is a
little bit behind Simon Davies in terms of age and development and
would have hoped that he might have stayed to battle for a place in
the side. I guess that he has spoken to the management about his
situation and not been given an assurance of a first team place, so
thinks he should leave. Like many others before him, that might
lead down a path to lesser success. If he goes, we wish him
well.
Two
World Cup players who had been linked with Spurs are likely to be
going elsewhere. Junichi Inamoto, the Japanese midfielder had been
linked with a move to Tottenham after being released by Arsenal, but
it looks like he will be heading West ... to Fulham, while Turkish
side Besiktas have been said to be making an offer for Croatia and
Hajduk Split goalkeeper, Stipe Pletikosa, who Spurs were rumoured to
be making a move for.
Ledley
King is looking forward to the pre-season friendlies that Spurs have
lined up starting later this month. He is especially keen to
face Celtic and Lazio, as he told the Spurs website that they are the
sort of sides that the fans want to see and the players will be up for
the prospect of pitting their skills against the opponents with
European and international experience that they contain.
Spurs
keeper Kasey Keller has been frustrated in his World Cup campaign,
playing second string goalie to Brad Friedel, but said on the official
site that he is really motivated to do well at Spurs in the new
season. After taking a short break, he will be back with renewed
vigour to establish himself as the number one keeper at the club.
TeamTalk
reports that Glenn Hoddle will have to shave a few players from his
squad before bringing in new recruits. The first out of the door
according to the gossip website will be Oyvind Leonhardsen, who wants
to go home to Norway, while Derby County and Watford are keen on
taking Tim Sherwood from the Lane. Incoming might be Samuel
Eto'o, Kevin Phillips and surprisingly, Fiorentina's Portuguese
international striker, Nuno Gomes, who was dismissed and accused of
punching the referee in his country's match against South Korea in the
World Cup.

Jonathan
Blondel has said that Spurs scouts watched him play 15 times for
Mouscron Excelsior last season and he is coming to England to view the
facilities at the club before making his decision on a move. The
18 year old midfielder told Onefootball.com that he is interested in
the move and that he will weigh everything up before signing for
another club, but if the conditions are the same as in Belgium, then
he will be wearing a Spurs shirt next season.
In
what seems like a quote that has dropped through a time warp from
five, four, three, two or one year ago, Steffen Iversen has told
reporters that he is hoping for an injury free season.

Les
Ferdinand has come through the La Manga get-together and is looking
forward to the new season, now that he has recovered from his broken
wrist. He told the official website that he had not done
anything like this pre-season meeting up before, but had enjoyed the
experience and believes it has helped top-up the players'
fitness.
TeamTalk
has a scoop in revealing that Glenn Hoddle will move to bring a
striker to White Hart Lane in the next two weeks now the World Cup is
over. They go on to say that this is one department of the team
where Tottenham do not have a great deal of cover. Gosh, news is
slow today !!

Apparently,
Schalke 04 are looking to take Steffen Freund back to Germany, if he
is interested. The Sunday Mirror newspaper carried the story,
but also went on to state that he wants to stay with Spurs.
Meanwhile,
the Sunday People have linked Spurs with a move for Stockport County
defender Robert Clare.

Tottenham's
England striker Teddy Sheringham said that his country would have to
learn from others if they were to get better in international
tournaments. He said that sometimes, they were a little naive
when it came to gamesmanship and that they also had to learn how to
hold onto the ball more and not go chasing it for the majority of the
match.

Ledley
King has told the Spurs site that he is looking forward to the new
season and is doing well after his Achilles tendon problem at the back
end of last season. The training in La Manga is helping him get
ready for the big kick off.
Teddy
Sheringham was a 80th minute substitute for England in their 1-2
defeat by Brazil in the quarter final of the World Cup today.
Christian
Ziege played for Germany in their 1-0 win over the USA in today's
World Cup quarter final. It was his cross that created the only
goal of the game.
In
the same quarter final of the World Cup, Kasey Keller was a
non-playing member of the American squad and therefore did not get on
the pitch during the tournament.
Tottenham's
groundsman, Darren Baldwin reports on the official site that the new
pitch has taken well and should be ready for the first match on it
against Celtic on August 7th.

Spurs
are caught up in a legal battle between Racing Santander of Spain and
Israeli club Hapoel Beersheba. The $2.5 million April transfer
to Spain of Yossi Benayoun has sparked controversy as the striker was
supposedly the subject of a $4 million bid by Tottenham. A court
case is being heard in Israel, where $12.5 million is being claimed as
the real worth of the 22 year old, who had previously attracted
interest from AC Milan and Real Mallorca.
Derby County's defender
Danny Higginbottom has Spurs, Blackburn Rovers and Everton vying for
his transfer. The 23 year old is one of the players relegated County
might have to sell and a fee of between £4 million and £7 million
has been rumoured.
Spurs are now at home to
West Bromwich Albion on Sunday 8th December rather than Saturday
7th. The match will be covered by Sky TV.
The Daily Mail has
revealed that Sir Alan Sugar had a meeting with South Korean national
manager Gus Hiddink and David Pleat to talk about them becoming
manager and general manager at White Hart Lane six years ago.
Former Spurs reserve
striker Peter Crouch said he had to leave the club to progress as
there were too many forwards in his way to the Tottenham first team.
Wednesday 19.6.2002 (For
other Spurs history on this day click here)
Tottenham
have agreed a fee with Mouscron Excelsior to sign midfield prodigy
Jonathan Blondel. The 18 year old is on holiday at the moment
and David Pleat is commentating out in the Far East at the World Cup,
so the terms of the deal for the player will not be formalised for a
week or two. If the transfer comes off, it will be a bit of a
coup for Spurs, as the youngster was attracting interest from
Manchester United and other top European teams. This could be
the start of a fruitful relationship with the Belgian side, who have
agreed to a deal where Tottenham have first refusal on their players.
It
is further rumoured that Tottenham might bring other Mouscron players
to White Hart Lane. Belgian striker Mbo Mpenza and the Polish
Zewlakow twins are names being put in the frame.
US
coach Bruce Arena has selected Brad Friedel for every game ahead of
Kasey Keller in the World Cup so far on the strength of his kicking
game !!
Former
Spurs youth and reserve striker, Stephen Robinson, has joined Luton
Town from Preston North End for a fee of £50,000.
...
and finally ... Chelsea have had to pull out of a deal for Geremi, the
Real Madrid and Cameroon midfielder, because they do not have enough
money. The coach Claudio Ranieri said that the club do not have
a penny to spend at the moment. That could leave some staff at
Stamford Bridge keeping their legs firmly crossed !!

Gary
Doherty is keen to get back into the Ireland squad after they were
unluckily knocked out of the World Cup. The Spurs
defender-cum-striker told the official site that he hoped to be
involved in the set-up when they get together for the European
Championship qualifiers.
Tottenham's
pre-season friendly at White Hart Lane against Lazio has been
confirmed as a 3.00 p.m. kick off on Sunday 11th August.
Chris
Hughton has said that Ledley King and Stephen Carr are both out in La
Manga with the rest of the players who are not involved in the World
Cup in their warm up sessions for the pre-season training.
Steffen Freund is the one player who is still not ready to join in.
Bolton
Wanderers have signed Jay-Jay Okocha from Paris Saint Germain on a
two-year deal. The Nigerian midfielder was interesting Spurs
previously.
Former
Spurs central defender Ramon Vega has been released by Watford, after
having his three year contract paid up.
Monday 17.6.2002 (For other

Today's
transfer rumour is Tottenham's interest in AC Milan's Portuguese
midfielder Rui Costa. Liverpool are also keen to bolster their
squad with the player who starred in the World Cup, but the asking
price of £18 million and the fact that Hoddle has already signed two
midfielders makes this one unlikely to run.
Tottenham's
squad for the London Masters 6-a-side tournament on July 20th at the
London Arena has been named with some legends in there. Present
manager Glenn Hoddle links up with Clive Allen, Colin Calderwood,
Micky Hazard, Mitchell Thomas, David Kerslake, Clive Wilson, Terry
Gibson, Mark Stimson and Tony Parks. The squad will be managed
by John Gorman as usual.

TeamTalk
carries a story that Tottenham are poised to move for Cameroon striker
Samuel Eto's in the next fortnight, as some potential targets have
been priced out of Spurs' range. A bid of £8 million is
believed to be ready and the story reckons it should secure the
services of the 20 year old international.
Planet Football reports
that Glenn Hoddle is keen on signing Tunisia's Slim Ben Achour from
French club Martigues for £4 million. The 20 year old
midfielder said he is keen to move to England.
One
World Cup player who might not be coming to Tottenham is Nigerian
Julius Aghahowa, whose club Shakhtar Donetsk have slapped a £10
million asking price on his head.

Teddy
Sheringham came on as a substitute in England 3-0 win over Denmark in
the second round of the World Cup to gain his 50th cap for his
country.

Glenn
Hoddle has urged Sven Goran Eriksson to start with Teddy Sheringham up
front for England with Michael Owen for the match against Denmark
tomorrow. The Spurs boss told the London Evening Standard that
he would provide an astute foil, which cannot be said of Emile Heskey.
The
Sunderland striker Kevin Phillips, who has long been linked with
Spurs, has been the subject of a £16 million bid from Aston
Villa. The offer has been turned down as the Black Cats want to
keep their main scorer.
Meanwhile,
Planet Football reports that Tottenham are set to raid the club that
they were supposedly trying to forge links with. Excelsior
Mouscron will be getting a phone call from Tottenham offering to take
Mbo Mpenza and Jonathan Blondel off their hands. Mbo is the
brother of Emile, who was linked to Spurs last year and Blondel is a
talented 18 year old midfielder, who has attracted a lot of
interest from clubs all over Europe.
Everton
did not want to play Spurs on the opening day of the season, pleading
with the Premier League to allow them to play Aston Villa to mark
their centenary in the top division. The other option was to
play them around October 6th, as Aston Villa are the second longest
top flight servants, but the League has not fallen in line with the
Toffee's requests and they will have to face Spurs on August 17th.
Already,
one of Tottenham's fixtures have been moved. The away match
against Newcastle United due to be played on Saturday 28th December
has been put back 24 hours to Sunday 29th December.

All fixtures are subject to change and some will be re-arranged in
the next week or so when Sky TV choose their
televised games.
Nevio Scala, manager of Shakhtar Donetsk has revealed that Tottenham
have made a bid of $5 million (£3.39 million) for Nigerian striker
Julius Aghahowa. The forward, who gave England some tricky times
on Wednesday, is hoping to play in the Premiership, but it is said
that Spurs might look elsewhere now ... mainly in the direction of
Cameroonian Samuel Eto'o.
The Daily Star has got around to reporting the interest Tottenham,
SCBC and Fulham have in Valery Karpin. The 33 year old Russian
midfielder is available on a free transfer from Celta Vigo and it is
thought England will be his destination.
Jamie Redknapp is happy to be ready to join up with his Spurs
team-mates after his spell on BBC doing analysis on the World
Cup. Having been training over the last week, he told the Spurs
official site that he couldn't wait to get back to being a footballer.
Chris
Hughton explained on the Spurs site that the reason for the trip to La
Manga is to top up on the player's fitness before the serious business
of pre-season training. The Spurs coach said that they would
benefit from the get together and the immediate pre-season training
will not be as onerous and the players would not be
"hammered" as in the old days.

Spurs
have announced that they will play Lazio at White Hart Lane on the
weekend of August 10/11 in a pre-season friendly. Confirmation
will be made at a later date.
The
club did confirm that they would be playing Celtic at home on
Wednesday
7th August with a 8.00 p.m. kick off.
Teddy
Sheringham played the last 20 minutes of the England 0-0 draw with
Nigeria at the World Cup today.
Milenko
Acimovic scored Slovenia's only goal as they lost
1-3 to Paraguay, with all the South Americans goals coming after
Acimovic had been substituted in the 62nd minute. The new Spurs
midfielder also hit the bar. According to TeamTalk, Milenko will
go on a short holiday with his wife and new-born baby before linking
up with the rest of the Spurs squad for pre-season training.
Watford
manager Ginaluca Vialli has said he would be interested in taking
Chris Armstrong to the First Division club and is ready to battle with
Nottingham Forest to see who can secure the player's contract, after
he was not required by Tottenham any longer.
Meanwhile,
French club Strasbourg have signed another player Spurs have released,
Yannick Kamanan.

The
official Spurs site tells of the Daily Mail report concerning David
Pleat's driver in Korea, who got too close to a barrier at a level
crossing and it crashed down on the car the Spurs Director of Football
was a passenger in.
Spurs
are reported to be heading to La Manga in Spain to have a
pre-pre-season get together where the players will reacquaint
themselves with each other ahead of pre-season training.
Christian
Ziege helped Germany to a 2-0 win over Cameroon today in World Cup
Group E, but received his second yellow card of the tournament and
will miss the Second round match against either Spain or South Africa
or Paraguay.
Teddy
Sheringham has been named as one of the penalty takers should a
shoot-out be required in a World Cup game and he is on the pitch at
the end of extra time.
Celta
Vigo's Russian midfielder Valery Karpin is being targeted by four big
English clubs - Spurs, Blackburn Rovers, Fulham, West Ham United and
SCBC - who are all looking at the influential star. Deportivo La
Coruna may be favourites to keep him in Spain.
Tottenham
are also supposedly keeping tabs on Arsenal's released Japanese
midfield star Junichi Inamoto. West Ham United and Aston Villa
are also linked to the player who will be released for free just a
year after being signed for £4 million. PSV Eindhoven are eying
the player who has scored in both his country's games at the World Cup
so far, according to Planet Football.
Former
Spurs striker and manager of Walsall, Colin Lee, is keeping his eye on
the situation of former Spurs winger, Andy Sinton, who has been
released by Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Chris
Armstrong is being linked with a move to Nottingham Forest after being
told by Spurs that he is no longer required by the club. Watford
are also interested in the former Crystal Palace forward.
TalkSport
today revealed that out of contract Coventry City and Republic of
Ireland defender Gary Breen's dream move would be to Tottenham.

Today's
big news is that Christian Ziege has shaved off his Mohawk haircut, as
he believes it is distracting attention from his performances to his
head. He told the official Spurs site that it is now no longer
an issue as he has removed it.
...
and that's it !!
Sunday 9.6.2002 (For

Spurs
have been linked with a move for Real Madrid's Steve McManaman. Fulham
and Leeds United are also reported to be interested in the former
Liverpool winger.
Kasey
Keller has told the Spurs website that he has a desire to be the Spurs
number one keeper. Although disappointed at missing out in the
USA's first group game at the World Cup, he said that he could have
signed for a team that would have guaranteed him first team football,
but the lure of challenging for the position at White Hart Lane won
him over. Meanwhile, there is speculation that Bruce Arena might
rotate his keepers and Keller might get the nod for the match against
South Korea.
Las
Palmas' former Spurs midfielder Vinny Samways is wanted by Seville as
long as he can be signed on a free transfer.
From
the start of the 2002-03 season, there will be two promotion places
for teams in the Vauxhall Conference. The champions will go up
automatically, while the next four teams will be involved in a play
off series to determine who the second team to go into the League will
be. Consequently, two teams will henceforth be relegated form Division
Three.

Kasey Keller has no idea
if the USA coach will play him in rotation with Bred Friedel or
whether he will stick with the Blackburn Rovers stopper. Keller
said that the coach had not told him he would not be playing and that
he was not against Friedel having the gloves, but hoped whatever
happened it was for the sect for American soccer.

Teddy
Sheringham came on as a 56th minute substitute in England's 1-0 win
over Argentina today in World Cup Group F.
Christian
Ziege watched the match on TV at the German training camp and said
that England have nothing to fear now and could go along way in the
competition.
Spurs may
face competition from Atletico Madrid for the services of Cameroonian
forward Samuel Eto'o.
Perugia
have confirmed that Tottenham are interested in a move for Greek
winger Zyvas Vryzas, but also other English clubs are watching him and
that any of them will pay the fee they are asking.
Thursday 6.6.2002 (For
other Spurs history on this day click here)
Glen
Hoddle might turn his attentions to Valencia's Romanian striker Adrian
Ilie, after being put off Kevin Phillips and the £15 million asking
price. Ilie is out of contract and will not be offered a new
deal by the Spanish champions, so Glenn might see him as the
experienced goalscorer he lacks. Not so sure he will be the 20
goal a season player we need, but for free (but on big wages), he
could be a useful addition to the squad.
Spurs
