Spurs are due to have discussions with striker Dimitar Berbatov
about a new contract in the next two weeks, which would see him
increase the £20,000 a week he currently earns. Meanwhile
Giles Barnes of Derby County will be staying put having
helped the Rams to the Premier League via the play-off final, but he
told the media that it was "Arsenal who were my favourite team when
growing up, not Spurs" so his big interest is in playing at the
Pirates Stadium next season ... which of course was the Arsenal
ground when Barnes was young. The Daily Mail claim that should
Michael Owen leave St. James Park, new Newcastle United manager Sam
Allardyce would make a move for Jermain Defoe and the Spurs
striker would be almost guaranteed a regular starting position in
the team. There is some good news though, as £9 million rated
West Ham United midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker is resisting
efforts by Tottenham to sign him, as he thinks he will be above
playing for them and is aiming to get into the Arsenal or Manchester
United sides.

In the Sunday Mirror, it is claimed that Martin Jol might make
an audacious bid to bring Manchester United's Ryan Giggs to
White Hart Lane. The Welsh captain is thought to have been the
subject of a January effort to sign him, but now Jol thinks he could
solve the left sided problem at Tottenham. The News of the
World pins it's story to the on-going tales of Spurs chasing
Charlton Athletic's Darren Bent (for in excess of £10
million) and Nani of Sporting Lisbon (£13.5 million).
The paper goes on to purport that Jol is also keeping an eye on
Middlesbrough's Stewart Downing and West Ham United's
want-away captain Nigel Reo-Coker. Back at the Mirror,
Liverpool are thought o have made a £5 million offer for Portsmouth
left back-cum-midfielder Matthew Taylor, but Spurs, Fulham
and Aston Villa are also reported to be showing interest in the
player. To balance things up the NoTW claim that the former
West Ham United manager Harry "Hangdog" Redknapp is interested in
signing Tottenham's ex-West Ham United forward Jermain Defoe
and will put Tottenham's resolve to the test with a £5 million bid
for the England striker. After the experience this season with
the two Egyptian players, an unlikely story in the Daily Star Sunday
links Tottenham with a battle against Fulham to sign international
Mohamed Zidan.

"Isn't it about time we had

If any of you don’t know
what he did for the club, he gave 68 years service to Tottenham
Hotspur, as a player from 1937, and as manager from 1958 to 1974.
He led Spurs to the first English League and FA Cup double of the
modern era (1961), and the first European trophy by a British club
in 1963. In all he won us the League once (the 1961 double),
the FA Cup 3 times, the League Cup twice, the European Cup-Winners’
