30.4.99
- Former Spurs and England full-back
& England World Cup winning manager has died
today aged 79. Alf was signed from Southampton
and played in the Push and Run side under Arthur
Rowe, which won the First Division title in 1951.
- Jose Dominguez could be a target for
Porto in his home country of Portugal at the end
of the season. They would be keen to take him
back home with a bid of £1.5 million.
- Moussa Saib has been watched
recently by French clubs Bordeaux and Strasbourg.
- George Graham has again stressed he
will have to bring in a number of players before
the new season to strengthen the club for the
rigours of European football. His main
consideration at the moment is a top-class
striker.
- Sol Campbell faces a late fitness
test for the game at Anfield tomorrow and Les
Ferdinand is likely to miss out with an Achilles
injury. Ledley King is in the squad as back-up
due to Luke Young serving a one match suspension.
Justin Edinburgh is also back after a five match
ban. Allan Nielsen returned from Denmark duty
with a back strain from the South Africa game and
Stepehn Clemence has been called up as cover.
- John Scales has failed to make it
into the squad for the match against his old club
Liverpool. He could be in contention for a squad
place for Wednesday's match against Arsenal.
- George Graham will use the last
three matches of the season to test the mettle of
the Spurs players. He said it was ideal for him
to play the top three sides in the final trio of
games and would like to see Spurs finish
comfortably in the top half of the table to mount
a serious push for a higher finish next term.
29.4.99
- Sol Campbell has had intensive
treatment on his hamstring problem all this week
and could be winning his fitness battle to play
against Liverpool on Saturday.
- Marcelino is a target for Newcastle
United. The Real Mallorca central defender is the
subject of a rumoured £4 million or £5.5
million bid, despite stories leaking out of Spain
that he would like to play in London. It appears
that Newcastle are trying to outdo the other
teams in the Premiership by buying up all the
available defensive talent. They are also
rumoured to be on the trail of Wolves' Dean
Richards, along with Liverpool, who is out of
contract at the end of the season.
- Spurs reserves beat Crystal Palace
reserves 3-0 away tonight. The goals came from
Paul McVeigh (2) and Peter Crouch (or as Media
Monitor reported it as "Paul McVeigh ...
with two more goals between Crouch's strike"
!!!). This keeps them in contention at the top of
the Avon Insurance Combination league.
28.4.99
- Tim Sherwood played the whole of
England's 1-1 draw with Hungary tonight. He made
a good impression and got forward on many
occasions (as we know he can).
- John Moncur tried to excuse his
scything tackle on Jose Dominguez at the weekend
as "mistimed". He claims that he was
aghast at the Spurs players who were waving
imaginary red cards at the ref in an attempt to
get him sent off. He seemed to be doing a pretty
good job of that himself, I thought and if they
were waving cards it was something they must have
picked up from Rio Ferdinand who earlier in the
game seemed quite happy to imersonate the
referee.
- Talks between Tottenham and David
Ginola's agent have been taking place for a few
weeks and although no settlement has been reached
as yet, he hopes to sign a contract that will
keep him at White Hart Lane until the end of his
career before the season ends.
- Stephen Carr made his international
debut in the Republic of Ireland's 2-0 home win
over Sweden in a friendly tonight.
- Allan Nielsen played in a friendly
international for Denmark against South Africa
tonight. The match ended 1-1.
- Steffen Ivesen might have scored in
Norway's 4-1 away victory over Georgia in a Euro
2000 qualifier. There is some question over
whether the Spurs forward will be given the goal
or if it will go down as an own goal after coming
off a defender's leg.
- David Robertson, a Leeds United
player who has failed to maintain a regular place
at the club because of a long injury absence, has
slammed GG's tactics when Leeds boss. He said
although Graham stabilised the club after a
couple of dodgy years, he did not enjoy playing
under him.
27.4.99
- Tim Sherwood is in line for his
second England cap after being selected for the
friendly international in Hungary tomorrow.
- Luke Young made his debut for the
England Under-21's in Budapest tonight. He had a
good game as England drew 2-2 with their
Hungarian hosts.
- Stephen Carr has been picked to play
in the Republic of Ireland team against Sweden in
a friendly match tomorrow.
- Paul McVeigh scored the last minute
equaliser for Northern Ireland after coming on as
a substitute to make his debut against Canada
tonight.
- George Graham may be investigated by
the FA after comments following Saturday's match
against West Ham which saw seven yellow and one
red card dished out by referee Uriah Rennie. GG
is alleged to have made remarks to the effect
that Rennie is starting to believe his own
publicity. It seemed to all presetn at the match
that the Sheffield official was out to make a
name for himself, especially when he booked
Ginola for diving.
- Reports are linking Tottenham and
Motherwell in a link-up to exchange players and
coaches. The deal similar to that of Manchester
United and Royal Antwerp and Arsenal and St.
Etienne would be the first between British clubs,
although Everton struck up a deal close to home
with a relationship with Home Farm of the
Republic of Ireland. David Pleat has stated on
Media Monitor that he has not had any specific
talks about this matter with the Motherwell top
brass.
- Marcelino Elena Sierra, the 27 year
old Real Mallorca centre-half, has been linked
with a £5 million transfer in the summer. The
strapping defender, who was "bitten" by
Dennis Wise in the European Cup Winners Cup
semi-final first leg, is allegedly keen to move
to the Premiership and while Leeds have also been
interested, he would prefer to move to London.
Now who wouldn't ??
- Taribo West, the Internazionale and
Nigeria defender, has issued a come and get me
plea to Premier League sides. Despite pulling out
of moves to Liverpool and Newcastle at the last
minute, he wants to play in England, with
Manchester United his first choice. Tottenham are
reported to have made a bid for him, but Media
Monitor denies that.
- David Ginola has been explaining
what the PFA Player of the Year trophy means to
him. "It is my World Cup, " said the
French star who went on "My future is
definitely at White Hart Lane. I am happy here
and I have worked really hard for the club that
has given me everything. There would have to be
certain circumstances for me to leave but I think
it would be difficult to find a better place. I
have no more hopes to be capped. Now I have other
aims: to win trophies with my side, to be cheered
when we leave the stadium, and to make my mark on
Tottenham's history."
26.4.99
- Tottenham will soon make a decision
over Andy Sinton's and Clive Wilson's futures at
the club. Both have contracts which expire at the
end of the season and both could receive free
transfers.
- Steve Lomas has hit out at Mauricio
Taricco's tackle on John Moncur which
precipitated a mass brawl leading to Rio
Ferdinand and Taricco receiving yellow cards.
Lomas felt that the Spurs man should have seen
red in what he describes as a leg-breaking tackle
if ever he saw one. Well, see Moncur's tackle on
Dominguez then (and Moncur - pick on the smallest
player on the pitch, why don't you). Ferdinand
was also lucky, if you go by the Northern Ireland
international's reckoning, as he had nothing to
do with the incident until he ran up and grabbed
Freund by the throat.
25.4.99
- David Ginola was voted PFA Player of
the Year by his fellow professionals. Ginola
along with Sol Campbell were also selected in the
Premiership Team of the Year.
- Sol Campbell has been withdrawn from
the England squad with a hamstring injury.
- Tottenham head the £7.5 million
chase for Leicester City's Emile Heskey. Reports
indicate that although a number of other clubs
are interested, GG heads the queue.
- Celtic's Mark Viduka has been
watched three times recently by Spurs scouts as
rumours of a £5 million offer for him are
mooted. The 23 year old striker has had his own
troubles since moving to Scotland from Croatia
Zagreb and now news breaks that his girlfriend
cannot settle in their new home country.
24.4.99
- Tottenham lost 1-2 at home to West
Ham United today. After going 0-2 down after 70
minutes, David Ginola pulled a goal back for
Tottenham. In a tempestuous game, the petulant
John Moncur was dismissed in the last minute for
a foul on Jose Dominguez.
- Sol Campbell has expressed fears
over the friendly match England are playing in
Hungary. He feels that the game is too close to
the area where the war is being fought in Kosovo
and that it is also one game more that tired
players will have to perform in. However, it was
revealed after today's game that Sol had played
despite having a hamstring injury, which might
see him conveniently withdrawn from the England
squad.
23.4.99
- Darren Anderton's exclusion from the
England squad for the friendly v Hungary does not
spell the end of his international career. Kevin
Keegan says he is aware of what Daz is capable of
and wanted to try a few other options out.
- Alan Sugar has said that the money
from the kit deal will go towards transfers. He
said that all profits are to be ploughed back
into the playing side and the kit deal had
conditions stating that the more successful the
club, the more bonuses were available.
- Sol Campbell's contract talks have
stumbled across a few problems. He wants to be
assured that the club will continue to make
progress and not break up the side that has done
well this season. The Spurs captain said :
"You've got to keep your
core side and add to it, as all the best teams
do. We're moving in the right direction and if we
keep doing that, step by step, we'll see how it
goes." Solman also commented on the
increasing workload players face when they are
competing on a number of fronts for trophies. He
feels that more than three weeks in the summer
should be allowed to give players time to recover
from a long season.
- Following Dynamo Kiev's loss in the
European Champions League semi-final to Bayern
Munich on Wednesday night, Tottenham have struck
up an interest in striker Sergei Rebrov. The 29
year old would pull in around £8 million and
Spurs are keeping an eye on the situation.
- GG may play the same side that beat
Charlton Athletic for the game against West Ham
United tomorrow. The only change could be in
defence, where Luke Young could come in for Roger
Nilsen. West Ham have a defensive crisis - well,
one worse than their normal back four - in that
Rio Ferdinand faces a late fitness test and
Ruddock and Foe are suspended.
- Spurs' interest is reported in
23-year-old Italian midfielder Christian Brocchi
of Serie B club Verona. Others watching the young
talent are Italian clubs Fiorentina, Lazio and
Parma.
- GG has said that Tottenham will
match the wages offered by the top clubs in an
effort to retain his best players and attract
other top stars. He added he felt it his duty to
noe get Tottenham up there with Manchester United
and Arsenal.
- UEFA have confirmed that all UEFA
cup ties next season wil take place on Thursdays
or Tuesdays (when the games would have to kick
off at 5pm, so as not to clash with Champions
League matches chosen for pay-per-view).
22.4.99
- Tottenham launched their new adidas
kit today. The home kit is plain white shirt with
a blue collar and V-neck insert, blue shorts and
white socks. The away kit is blue, white and
golden yellow shirts, with a white shorts and
blue socks combination. For further viewing see
the official Spurs site at http://www.spurs.co.uk/merch/repkit/adihome.JPG for the home kit and http://www.spurs.co.uk/merch/repkit/adiaway.JPG for the away. Some early reaction
indicates a dread of the new away kit, while the
home shirt has found some favour.
- Justin Edinburgh will be available
again after serving his four match ban for his
sending off in the Worthington Cup Final. He may
not be able to dislodge Mauricio Taricco from the
left back slot yet, so could find himself on the
bench for Saturday's derby v West Ham United. Les
Ferdinand looks unlikely to be fit after a knock
on his achilles at Forest and Dazza has had a
reocurrence of his recent groin trouble.
- Sol Campbell and Tim Sherwood have
been selected in the experimental England squad
for the Hungary friendly later this month. Luke
Young has been chosen to go with the Under-21's
to Budapest to meet their Hungarian counterparts.
- Allegedly Tottenham have matched
Panathanikos's bid for Real Madrid's Davor Suker.
21.4.99
- Gary Mabbutt will be making an
appearance in Trinidad in the summer in a
veteran's tournament.
- Allan Nielsen will be in the Danish
squad for their friendly against South Africa and
colleagues Steffen Iversen and Espen Baardsen
will play for the full and Under-21 Norway sides
respectively against Georgia. Stephen carr has
again been picked for Eire who face Sweden in a
friendly, while Tim Sherwood and Sol Campbell
look set to feature in England's friendly in
Hungary. Ian Walker waits to see if he will be
selected in the England squad.
- A half-time roasting from GG made
Tottenham's stars perform better in the second
half against Charlton Athletic last night. He
demanded they play with more passion and it paid
off with four goals in the last half-hour of the
match to give Spurs three away points and move
them up to tenth in the table. GG did say that he
felt that Charlton had only themselves to blame
for the heaviness of the defeat. He felt that
after charlton had taken the lead, they tried to
hold onto it and that was when Spurs got back
into the game.
- GG has denied that £20 million will
be available to him in the summer to recruit new
players. He has said that he wants at least three
players to come to the club and is working out
how best to do that. This could be canny action
by the Scot to prevent inflated prices being
asked of Tottenham when they go for their
targets.
20.4.99
- Tottenham beat Charlton Athletic at
the Valley tonight 4-1. The goals came from
Iversen, Campbell, Dominguez and Ginola. Spurs
had fallen behind in the 5th minute to a Mark
Kinsella goal that gave the home side the lead
until half-time in a match that was late kicking
off because of traffic congestion in the area.
- It seems as though Kevin Keegan may
not play certain members of the England squad
drawn from Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United
in the friendly with Hungary. This begs the
question will he play those players who's clubs
are involved in relegation struggles or those
clubs who meet the teams battling at the top and
bottom of the Premier League ?? Surely, it is
unfair just to rest the top players without
consideration for those at the other end of the
table. For those clubs fighting to stay up, it
means even more than one of the top teams winning
the Championship.
- Bordeaux are another French club
interested in Moussa Saib.
- A change in UEFA's procedure for
cliubs in Europe has left Tottenham facing a
tough task in next season's competition. The
club's individual record rather than the
country's will now count and therefore Spurs will
not be seeded. This could mean that Tottenham
face a major team from one of the other European
leagues.
19.4.99
- Les Ferdinand looks set to miss
Tottenham's game at Charlton Athletic tomorrow.
Graham could shuffle his pack by introducing
Ginola and Anderton, who were both on the bench
on Saturday, as well as Roger Nilsen in defence.
- Allan Nielsen will meet GG for talks
on his future on Monday. He is not happy at being
kept on the bench and could move to Italy, where
anumber of clubs have shown interest, if he
cannot be assured of first-team football.
- GG has agreed with other Premier
League Managers that England's friendly in
Hungary should be called off.
18.4.99
- Newspaper speculation has again put
George Graham in the hunt for some top names this
summer. These include :
* A £20 million spree for Chris Sutton, Ugo
Ehiogu and Robbie Keane.
* £10 million on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
* Andy Sinton will be off to Coventry City in the
summer if they stay up and he doesn't get his two
year contract at Tottenham. Fee around £750,000.
* Willem Korsten will sign for Spurs in the
summer after turning down Leeds unsatisfactory
fianancial terms. I can hear Peter Ridsdale now
...
* Moussa Saib is interesting Bastia and
Strasbourg of France and could go in the summer
for £1.5 million.
* Alain Goma, the Paris St. Germain central
defender we were interested in some months ago,
is a summer £4 million target for Newcastle
United.
* Spurs may have to duel with Kevin Keegan's
Fulham for the services of Paul Ince. He seems to
be the first victim of the Houllier summer clear
out and could go for as low as £1 million. [Boy
if KK gets all the players he wants for his
(early) Christmas, Fulham are going to look some
team on paper.]
17.4.99
- Tottenham beat Nottingham Forest 1-0
at the City Ground today. The goal by Steffen
Iversen was not quite enough to condemn the
Tricky Trees to relegation. Allan Nielsen hasd a
penalty saved on the stroke of half-time. He was
only taking the spot-kick because Anderton and
Ginola were on the bench. This was GG's first
away win as manager.
- GG commented that the first half was
poor and he was disappointed that the score was
0-0 at the break, but in the second half he said
Forest could have had one or two and Spurs five
or six !! With our forwards and their reputation
?? Are you sure George ??
- Unconfirmed rumours are hinting that
Tottenham have signed Leeds want-away Dutch
midfielder Willem Korsten. We will wait and see
if this is indeed fact.
- Justin Edinburgh appeared on Sky
TV's Soccer AM this morning and revealed that
George Graham has no longer got an Arsenal crest
in his back garden, but a cockerel instead. It
also transpired that he calls Ginola
"David" not "Daveed" and
Ramon Vega, Raymond. Someone phoned in to say
that they are related to someone who lives next
to GG's new house in Hampstead and they were
nearly knocked over by a speeding car leaving the
place, the driver of which turned out to be
Arsene Wenger !! In next weeks show, they will
exclusively reveal the new Spurs kit.
16.4.99
- Sol Campbell was unconditionally
bailed to appear in July on the Derby County
assault charge. The original charge of Actual
Bodily Harm was dropped to assault after the
court examined medical evidence.
- Juventus have asked Spurs to name
their price for Sol Campbell. they are keen to
spend around £10 million, but Tottenham would
want at least double that to part with thier
captain and star defender.
- Andy Sinton's hopes of earning a two
year contract took a knock when he received one
in the FA Cup semi-final against Newcastle
United. The injury he picked up will keep him out
of the first team for a couple of games and then
his fifth yellow card of the season wil prevent
him playing in the Arsenal match.
- Darren Anderton has failed to be fit
for the Game at Nottingham Forest tomorrow. He
could be replaced by Ruel Fox or Jose Dominguez.
Ledley King and Roger Nielsen are also in the
squad.
- Steffen Iversen has said that
Tottenham's season did not end with the
semi-final loss to Newcastle United. He said that
the players had their professional pride and
their place at the club at stake in the remaining
fixtures. Also, there were a few points needed
before Tottenham could pull away from the bottom
clubs in the Premier League.
- Jason Cundy has been interviewd on
TeamTalk's website and spouts forth on his old
managers at Tottenham. He would have liked to
play more under Terry Venables and didn't see eye
to eye with Ossie, but one common thread to his
discourse was that he was never regularly fit
enough to turn out fot the club whoever was the
boss !!
15.4.99
- Darren Anderton, Andy Sinton and
Justin Edinburgh are the names that are likely to
be missing for the game at Nottingham Forest on
Saturday. The first two are injured, while Justin
is still suspended from playing and has to make
do with an appearance on Sky TV's Soccer AM.
Meanwhile, Pierre van Hooijdonk is training with
the reserves at Forest because of his loss of
form.
- Spurs may be set to tempt Ole Gunnar
Solskjaer away from Old Trafford with a £6
million bid in the summer. Tha Man. U man has
spent most of the season on the bench and could
be getting frustrated by the lack of starts he is
awarded. Reports on TeamTalk suggest Everton and
Torino may also be interested.
- Tottenham along with Liverpool and
Newcastle United are being linked with the
Vitesse Arnhem midfield wide man, Willem Korsten,
who is currently on loan at Leeds United. He was
set to join the Elland Road outfit, but had a
remarkable change of heart and now it seems he
may be keen to join another Premiership outfit in
the summer.
14.4.99
- Stephen Carr will be allowed to play
for Tottenham against West Ham United before
flying off to join up with the Republic of
Ireland squad for their friendly against Sweden
on April 28.
- The Leeds chairman has the best
squad in the country according to him, because
the only players Tottenham are ever linked with
play at Elland Road. He affirmed that all the
players who have been rumoured targets for GG
have indicated they are willing to stay at the
club. Therefore, Spurs will have to look outside
the republic of Yorkshire to take second best in
terms of potential purchases this summer.
- Teddy Sheringham has been invited to
play for a World XI against VfB Stuttgart in
Jurgen Klinsmann's Farewell match.
- Although out of sorts since the
Worthington Cup Final, George Graham has stuck by
mercurial French wingman, David Ginola. He has
said you have to accept that there will be days
when he is not as effective, but when on form, he
can turn matches.
- Ex-Spur Colin Calderwood seems
likely to extend his contract at Aston Villa
after John Gregory hinted he may have a future of
a few years there.
- Former Spurs captain, Richard Gough
blasted refereeing standards after being sent off
at the weekend and may face the wrath of the FA
for his comments.
- Nikos Dabizas claims he was shoved
by Sol Campbell and that was why he handballed a
cross in the FA Cup semi-final.
- Spurs reserves were held to a 2-2
draw by Ipswich reserves tonight at Portman Road.
Ian Stonebridge and Paul McVeigh scored for
Tottenham. The game saw the return to action by
Stephen Clemence.
13.4.99
- Ramon Vega has returned to
Switzerland for more treatment on his ankle
injury and hopes he may be fit for the last
League match of the season at Old Trafford.
- Referee Paul Durkin has hit out at
George Graham about criticism of his performance
in the FA Cup semi-final. He said "Once
again the referee take the brunt. I noticed
George Graham hasn't criticised Sol Campbell for
a ridiculous handball. I don't accept Graham's
criticism , it was one decision in 120
minutes." Yeah, but a fairly crucial one -
eh, you little ginger .... Ruud Gullit has
claimed that the ref should have sent Campbell
off for the handball and it is hard to counter
that argument if he prevented a goalscoring
opportunity. Conversely, George Graham rightly
stated that Aaron Hughes should have been
dismissed for the horrendous foul on Andy Sinton
that lead to the Spurs man having to leave the
field.
- Despite saying the club has had a
greats season and that the players have done
really well, the ruthless side of GG will be seen
in the close season as he disects the squad and
rebuilds. Some of the names mentioned in the wake
of the FA cup semi final defeat are the usual
suspects of Lee Hughes, Robbie Keane, Chris
Sutton and Craig Bellamy, but some new faces are
in the frame too. Emile Mpenza, the 21 year old
Standard Liege and Belgium striker who looks set
to move on and favours the Premiership over
France and Italy, has been watched by the club.
Rebrov of Dynamo Kiev would cost about £10
million to move to Spurs and another
international is Paraguay's Miguel Angel Benitez,
who may have to be sold by Espanol.
12.4.99
- Paul Durkin has admitted he missed
an obvious handball by Newcastle's Dabizas in
normal time during the FA Cup semi-final
yesterday. Gee, thanks for saying that.
-
- GG has promised that changes will
take place at the club to get a squad that will
challenge for honours. He would ideally like the
core to come from the youth system, but feels
that this may not be possibe in the short term.
- Dynamo Kiev's Sergei Rebrov has been
mentioned as a possible target for Tottenham this
summer as the player to convert the missed
chances that keep arising. He has played with
Shevchenko, who will be joining AC Milan for £17
million in the summer.
11.4.99
- Tottenham lost 0-2 to Newcastle
United after extra time in the FA Cup semi-final
at Old Trafford. The game heard the first
sustained chorus of "Georgie Graham's Blue
and White Army", which was sung long and
loud towards the end of normal time.
- Peter Crouch played for England
Under-20's in the World Youth Championships
against Japan today and became the tallest player
at 6' 5" to represent his country. They
still lost 0-2, even though he was head and
shoulders above his opponents.
10.4.99
- Former Spurs captain Richard Gough
was sent off playing for Nottingham Forest today
against Derby County.
- George Graham has said that winning
is all that counts in the FA Cup semi-final at
Old Trafford. He has spoken about his two
midfield acquisitions - Freund and Sherwood - in
glowing terms. He expressed surprise at the fact
that there are so few German players in the
Premier League and also that Sherwood was such a
good player technically.
- Darren Anderton has been talking
about his FA Cup semi-final jinx, which has
deprived him of a place in the final on three
occasions. The 1992 semi for Portsmouth against
Liverpool, Spurs v Arsenal (1993) and Everton
(1995) were the other times he has fallen at the
final hurdle, but he is convinced that it is all
behind him now he has been a winner in the
Worthington Cup.
9.4.99
- The FA are to look at Tottenham's
ticket sales for the FA Cup semi-final. They are
happy that Spurs have only sold to their own fans
however.
- Allan Nielsen is unhappy at being
third choice in midfield behind Freund and
Sherwood. He has intimated that at 28 he needs
first team football and although has three years
to run on his contract, he may go elsewhere to
play.
- Les Ferdinand has said he has often
thought "What if ??" about his time at
Newcastle, where he says he had his most
successful time. He does not regret joining
Spurs, but has hoped things could have gone
better.
- Steffen Freund has been talking
about his Wembley dream. He thought of his
appearance in the Euro 96 semi-final at Wembley
when he was taken off injured and it made the
Worthington Cup victory all the sweeter. Going
back for the FA Cup would make it even better. He
also paid respect to George Graham, who has
improved the team's and Freund's own
performances.
- Ramon Vega may recover from his
ankle operation in time to play in the FA Cup
Final, should Tottenham get through.
- Some reports have quoted GG as
saying he may leave David Ginola out of the team
for the FA Cup semi-final. He said he would do
what was best for the team !!
- Marseilles striker, Titi Camarra who
was on trial at Tottenham at the start of the
season when Christian Gross was in charge, looks
set to join Liverpool.
8.4.99
- John Scales may be making an earlier
than expected return to action in the reserves in
the next week. He has recovered well from his
operation and could feature in the stiffs match
against Ipswich.
- Les Ferdinand has predicted that
Tottenham will face a more determined Newcastle
United side in the semi-final as they strive to
achieve some success for their long suffering
fans.
- There are fears that the segregation
at Sunday's semi-final may be ruined by Newcastle
fans buying tickets from Tottenham. Spurs still
have around 1,500 left and were selling them to
personal callers at White Hart Lane.
7.4.99
- Tottenham came through the League
game at Newcastle with no new injury problems.
Sherwood took a knock on his ankle, but is now
training normally.
- Andy Sinton may have to wait until
the end of the season to complete his contract
discussions with Spurs. He has said however, that
the fact that he will be entitled to a free
transfer under the Bosman ruling will allow him
to find a club if he cannot agree trems.
- Sampdoria, Empoli, Celta Vigo and
Verona have all expressed an interest in Allan
Nielsen, who has found it hard to dislodge Tim
Sherwood from the Spurs line-up. In the summer,
the Danish international may move to assure
himself of first team football.
- Meanwhile rumours linking Les
Ferdinand to a summer move to high-flying Fulham
have strengthened, with reports that Tottenham
have given permission for Kevin Keegan to talk to
the striker at the end of the season. A fee of
£2 million or £3 million has been mentioned and
it remains to be seen whether the forward wants
to drop out of the Premiership and move to Craven
Cottage.
6.4.99
- Tottenham's revived interest in Haim
Revivo, the Celta Vigo and Israel
midfielder/striker has been reported.
- GG was not a happy man after seeing
Tottenham miss chance after chance at St. James
Park last night. He said that he expected a very
different Newcastle United side to take the field
at Old Trafford on Sunday and a different type of
performance from the Magpies.
- Steffen Iversen will not miss the
West Ham United game later this month as the
Norway manager has said he will not invoke the
five day rule for him.
- Roger Nilsen made a confident debut
last night for Spurs against Newcastle United. He
was strong and fitted into the team structure
well, maybe provoking a thought or two in the
managers's mind as to whether he would be worth
keeping beyond the end of the season. He will
also hope that he might start in Sunday's FA Cup
semi final against Newcastle too.
- Sol Campbell's future appears to lie
firmly in N17. He has said "I have not got a
crystal ball but I don't see a problem. I've been
here for ten years and it's going to get better
and better. Hopefully the rest of the season will
be a fabulous time at this club and there is no
need to go anywhere else." This could spell
disappointment for Lazio, Real Madrid and
Barcelona who have all expressed an interest in
the Tottenham captain.

- Tottenham drew 1-1 at Newcastle
United tonight despite dominating the game.
Darren Anderton scored a second half penalty on
50 mins., but the home side equalised with about
13 minutes left.
- John Piercy played for England's
Under 20's in the World Youth Championships in
Nigeria, but ended up on the losing side - going
down 1-0 to USA.
4.4.99
- Tottenham have featured amongst the
Sunday transfer rumours ahead of the summer's
dealings. These include :
- Les and Armo being sold. Chris is interesting
Middlesbrough, Sunderland, Nottingham Forest and
Sheffield Wednesday (who tried to sign him before
deadline day), while Middlesbrough & Fulham
bidding for Les.
- Tottenham in shock horror link to the signing
of David Beckham - can only imagine this is so he
can be nearer the Posh family home in Goffs Oak,
Hertfordshire.
- Robbie Keane is one of the main targets for GG
in the close season and having had rumoured bids
of £4.5 million and £5 million turned down,
Tottenham are likely to take a lead with £8
million being offered at the end of the season.
- George Graham has blamed the defeat
at the hands of Worthington Cup final victims
Leicester City on the showing of highlights from
the Wembley victory on the Jumbotron screens
prior to yesterday's league game. He had no idea
it was set to happen and thought that the Foxes
were taking the mickey when they applauded
Tottenham onto the pitch at the start of the
match. GG added that Tottenham were due a loss
and that the opponents were worthy of their win.
3.4.99
- Tottenham lose 0-2 to Leicester
City.
- George Graham has said that his
summer transfer dealings will not break the bank
at Tottenham by restricting the wage demands of
the prospective new players.
- Robbie Savage went on to prove most
Tottenham's fans opinion of him with a petulant
display of unsporting behaviour - despite being
on the winning side !! He walked straight past
Allan Nielsen at the end of the match as the
Danish international offered to shake his hand.
He then made an obscene gesture to the Spurs fans
as he left the field.
2.4.99
- Robbie Savage looks set to start for
Leicester City in tomorrow's Premier League match
at White Hart Lane. Nielsen looks certain to
replace suspended Tim Sherwood, while Anderton's
ban opens the door for Fox, Sinton or Dominguez.
Vega's broken foot leaves a place alongside Sol
Campbell, which will be filled by Luke Young with
Roger Nilsen coming into the squad as cover.
- Sol Campbell has opened tentative
discussions with the club on an extension to his
current contract which still has two years to
run. Any new deal would keep him at Spurs until
well into his career and while nothing is due to
be concluded until the summer, Sol has said he is
receptive to any new ideas the club might put to
him.
1.4.99
- After rumours that an all-London
semi-final between Chelsea and Arsenal would be
staged at Wembley, the FA have confirmed that
should Tottenham and Arsenal make it through to
the FA Cup final in May, only a stadium the size
of Wembley could host such a fixture.
- David Ginola has revealed that he
needs a manager like George Graham who will push
him, as he is intrinsically lazy !!
- GG has said that he will not be
fielding weakend sides over Easter as Tottenham
need the points to avoid being dragged in to a
relegation battle. It was thought that the
players due to feature in the FA Cup semi-final
against Newcastle United would be rested, but
George says that he has not got a big enough
squad to do so.
- Clive Wilson may link up with his
old boss Gerry Francis at Loftus Road next
season. At 37, he has been granted a free
transfer by GG and looks set to join QPR for one
last season.
- Justin Edinburgh's League Cup Final
dismissal will see him banned for the games
against Newcastle United (Premier League),
Newcastle United (FA Cup semi-final), Nottingham
Forest and Charlton Athletic. Mauricio Taricco
looks set to fill in while Justin serves his
suspension.
- Ramon Vega fractured his foot in the
Worthington Cup Final and will miss the rest of
the season.
- Tottenham's League game against
Chelsea has been moved from Saturday May 8 to
Monday May 10 to be featured live on Sky TV.
- The FA have considered the case of
David Ginola's goal celebration in the FA Cup tie
at Barnsley, which was reported by referee Mike
Reed. They have settled for a warning with a
reminder that he could face a ban or fine in
future unless his celebrations are toned down -
or at least done in a game that Mr. Reed is not
officiating in.
- It has been revealed that George
Graham cost Tottenham £2.3 million when he
joined from Leeds United, but this has been
repaid by the success in the Worthington Cup. The
amount of money made by GG since his arrival
could escalate to £6 million with the FA Cup and
Europe on the horizon.
- Tottenham players have been warned
by GG to cool it over Robbie Savage's part in the
sending off of Justin Edinburgh in the
Worthington Cup Final. Darren Anderton and Tim
Sherwood are banned for the game after collecting
five bookings.
- George Graham has called for an
overhaul of the disciplinary system after the
abandonment of the removal of a yellow card after
five games for "good behaviour". The
difficulty in applying the rules were the reason
for dropping the scrubbing of one booking when a
player had completed five games without a card,
but it seems unfair that a player could be on
four bookings for a long period then receive a
yellow at a crucial time of the season. Darren
Anderton got his fourth yellow card on 19 October
and played in 29 more games before getting his
fifth to qualify for a suspension !!
