Jermain
Defoe has signed an improved four and a half year deal, believed to be
worth £25,000 a week, that will run from now until the summer of 2009.
Defoe was believed to be on £15,000 a week on his previous
deal. This kills speculation that the forward was being lined up
for a move to Chelsea for £5 million plus midfielder Scott
Parker. Jermain told the club website, “It’s a
special day for me. Since I’ve been at the club the staff, the
players, the fans have all been great and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my
time. It’s all gone so quickly."
Martin Jol said that Defoe has made a good transition to the Premier
League after leaving West Ham and although he is a fine player, he
still has some improvements to make, but the Head Coach believes that
he has the right mentality to succeed. Jol also added that the
young players at Tottenham are the future of the club and he was very
pleased that Defoe had signed the new contract.

"We really need to get behind the boys, even more than our usual
fantastic support. Jol wants us to be the 12th man !
We all know that if we play well its gonna go to the wire and
therefore we need to make that game like a cup final ! We tried
the yellow day at WBA, but it was wrong colour and time of year to
make a huge impact.
So I propose that against Blackburn Rovers, everyone wears
WHITE. Even if you don't own a spurs shirt everyone owns a white
shirt, so everyone from kids to directors can join in on this. The sun
will be out so its the perfect time to do it !
If the THST feel this is a good idea, which I sincerely hope it is,
would be great to be able to spread the word !
Please spread the word to all fellow Spurs fans, can make the Blackburn
game the most important and memorable home game for over a decade !
Hope you all feel its worthwhile doing!"

Robbie
Keane's reaction to not being used as a substitute in yesterday's
match at Birmingham City has been dismissed as his own problem by Head
Coach Martin Jol. Keane seemed to mouth something to Jol as he
left the bench to go down the tunnel and kicked over some water
bottles. This followed Jol putting Mido on for Noureddine Naybet
instead of using the Irish striker. The Dutch coach said that it
was not about Robbie Keane, but he did what was best for the team and
Mido had a good headed chance soon after coming on.
The
Sunday Mirror claims that Martin Jol wants to keep Keane at Spurs
despite interest from Aston Villa and Everton, saying that he does not
care who is linked with the Republic of Ireland forward as he believes
he wants to stay and be part of the future of Tottenham Hotspur and
that he can be at the club for a long time.

MEHSTG's
no-spin story ... Kieron Dyer and Lee Bowyer were involved in
an on-pitch fight at St. James' Park this afternoon in their game with
Aston Villa. Amazingly enough, Graeme Souness still found time
to criticise the referee for not awarding his side a penalty when they
were 0-1 down for handball. Oh, if he had been so concerned
about such incidents in the recent FA Cup tie with Spurs ?? And
in conceding the penalty that put Villa 2-0 up, Steven Taylor
handballed a shot on the line and then dramatically grabbed his
stomach in what must be one of the poorest attempts to cover up a
handball in football history. Not sure if Souness saw that one
though.
