South African defender Mbulelo Mabizela has said that he is not sure if he will still be with Tottenham next season.  The young reserve said that in his first season, he did not expect to break into the team straight away, but said if he gets a chance he will take it.
TOTTENHAM TEAM NEWS : -  Robbie Keane is fit again after suffering concussion in last Sunday's match.  The Spurs website says that Dean Richards is back in the squad and Darren Anderton's Achilles injury keeps him out of the reckoning for the Villa game.
ASTON VILLA TEAM NEWS : - Darius Vassell's hamstring injury might keep him out of the game, while Gareth Barry is rated as only hopeful for the match after picking up an ankle injury.
Former Spurs youth midfielder Simon Wormull has been released by Stevenage Borough.

  OTHER NEWS ...

Thursday   29.4.2004   (For other Spurs history on this day click here)

Reports today indicate that Stephane Dalmat may be up to £250,000 out of pocket after his behaviour saw him sent packing from White Hart Lane.  The French midfielder's loan spell was terminated by Spurs and Internazionale have said they will not take him back until the loan would have ended, so he is left in limbo and it does not look like he will be paid by either club in the interim.  His agent said it was very embarrassing for him, as he had not experienced any trouble at any other club he had been at.  Hmm.  I suppose that depends on who you believe.
TeamTalk's website carries a story claiming that if Tottenham do not get Mark van Bommel, they will turn to Liverpool's Dietmar Hamann, who is yet to be offered a new deal at Anfield, who has 12 months left on his current contract and would cost around £3 million.  Mind you, the same report said Spurs had been playing defender Anthony Gardner in midfield !!
The London Evening Standard have pointed out that Spurs have made Martin O'Neill their top target to take over as manager.  The only stumbling block appears to be the fact that Celtic chairman Dermot Desmond and ENIC's Joe Louis are firm friends and business associates, but it seems like the Irishman is set on returning to the Premier League and Levy has accepted that he will not be able to tempt Giovanni Trapattoni to North London.  According to the newspaper, Spurs might also go for Jacques Santini, if O'Neill does not arrive, while they will also consider Charlton Athletic's Alan Curbishley too.
Jermain Defoe might sneak into the England squad for Euro 2004 as Darius Vassell has been ruled out of Villa's remaining programme with a hamstring injury.  Defoe will compete with Leeds United's Alan Smith for the last place in the forward line.
Internazionale's Argentinian striker Julio Cruz is again being linked with a move to Tottenham.  The player is uncertain to be in the running for a first team place at the Serie A club, so the press in his home country are hinting that Spurs are renewing their interest in the forward.  Not that we need another forward, unless there will be some outgoings in the summer.
There is an online petition to make sure Helder Postiga doesn't become another Sergei Rebrov at http://www.petitiononline.com/spurs101/petition.html.

OTHER NEWS ... West Ham chairman Terence Brown has vowed to take action against the group of shareholders who are asking probing questions about the financial state of the club ...

.MEHSTG's spin story ... The Standard reports that Arsene Wenger might have trouble taming the new signing he has lined up in Robin van Persie.  They state that he has not been able to be controlled by any of his previous managers, the winger is "unruly, indisciplined and arrogant".  Well, I don't know about you, but he sounds tailor made for the Gooners then !!

Wednesday   28.4.2004   (For other Spurs history on this day click here)

Spurs have announced pre-season friendlies at Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Sunday July 25 (kick-off at 3.00 p.m.) and Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Saturday July 31 (kick-off at 3.00 p.m.).
The FA have charged Mauricio Taricco with two counts of violent behaviour and improper conduct during the home match against Chelsea last month.  The Argentinian defender has until May 12th to respond to the charges.
Tottenham have said that the £1.5 million a year salary that French coach Jacques Santini would request is too much for the club.  The story in the London Evening Standard said that Spurs would go for the cheaper option of £500,000 for a another manager who had indicated that would be acceptable to him.
The reasons behind Stephane Dalmat's return to Internazionale have been revealed in today's Daily Mirror.  The report alleges that he hit Jamie O'Hara after a reserve match at Charlton recently, had numerous bust-ups with Pleat after not turning up for training on time and most disgusting of all spitting in Jamie Redknapp's face in a training ground confrontation.
Gary Doherty played 8- minutes of the Republic of Ireland's match that ended 0-0 in Poland this evening.
A 16 minute substitute appearance was all that Helder Postiga was allowed in Portugal's 2-2 draw with Sweden.
Fredi Kanoute played for Mali in their 0-1 friendly reverse in Tunisia.
Spurs target, Feyenoord winger Robin van Persie has agreed to join Arsenal.
Paul Konchesky has said he is still unsure about his future at Charlton Athletic.  On loan earlier this season at Tottenham, he has said that he is still on the transfer list and will sit down with the manager at the end of the season to see what will happen.  As an out and out left back, Spurs could do worse.
Brazilian star Rivaldo has been offered by agents to Charlton Athletic, Fulham and Spurs, despite having had talks with Bolton Wanderers.

OTHER NEWS ... Tord Grip is concerned about the lack of fully fit central defenders that England might be able to take to Portugal for Euro 2004 ...

.MEHSTG's spin story ... It was reported today that Rivaldo is considering a Bolton move.  The Brazilian star has returned home to think over the move and the local people are only too happy for him to buy up the town.  The former AC Milan midfielder took in the Hall I' th' Wood, Smithills Hall and the Bolton Congregational Church and was impressed with the scenery around the town.  When asked if he would play for the local Wanderers side, he was reported to have said "You joking have to be !!"

Tuesday   27.4.2004   (For other Spurs history on this day click here)

Stephane Dalmat's loan spell has ended with his return to Internazionale of Milan.  The London Evening Standard report that the club took disciplinary action against Dalmat for his training ground bust-up with youth player Jamie O'Hara and thought it would be sensible to terminate his loan at this point in time.
Robbie Keane has withdrawn from the Republic of Ireland's friendly in Poland after suffering concussion in Sunday's match against Arsenal.  Gary Doherty has travelled to Poland with the rest of the squad.
French national coach Jacques Santini has said he would welcome an approach by Spurs as he is interested in the vacant manager's position.  With his contract up in the summer, he has said that Spurs have not been in touch with him, that he would enjoy a go at club management and this was obviously not a statement designed to pressurise his current employers into stumping up a lucrative contract in any way.
Mbulelo Mabizela has joined up with the South Africa squad for a training session in Surrey with new manager Stuart Baxter.
Frederic Kanoute has joined up with Mali, who are playing a friendly in Tunisia.
The reserves completed their league programme with a 1-3 defeat against Coventry City tonight.

OTHER NEWS ... The FA will take no action against Robert Huth over the Shearer incident on Sunday ... Newcastle United defender Jonathan Woodgate will miss the end of this season and probably Euro 2004 ... Millwall have failed to get their ticket allocation increased after an appeal to the FA ...

.MEHSTG's spin story ... Today FIFA bigwig Sepp Blatter had another brainstorm and splurted out through his mouth that he thought that football matches should not be drawn, so have to be decided on the day.  The German football supremo, who was voted in by those who favoured him over others who didn't butter them up enough, said that "We can't be satisfied with draws. (Modern Olympic Games founder) Pierre de Coubertin has said that the important thing was to take part, not to win. That's not true."  He also said that Bill Shankly's comment about the game being more important than life or death was also untrue.  And that Charles Darwin's Theory of Evolution was erroneous, as was Einstein's Theory of Relativity.  Because relatively speaking, he was in charge and what he says goes.  So penalty shoot outs all round then !!

Monday   26.4.2004   (For other Spurs history on this day click here)

Nottingham Forest manager Joe Kinnear has revealed that Spurs have a gentleman's agreement to buy Andy Reid, the First Division club's Irish midfielder.  However, Kinnear now reckons he wants £10 million for the player.
Jose Mourinho's agent has said he will wait until the summer to decide who he will join.  He is being courted by Liverpool, Newcastle United, Chelsea and Spurs among the English clubs and Real Madrid in Spain.

OTHER NEWS ... Chelsea's Robert Huth will face an inquiry by the FA after allegedly stamping on Alan Shearer's groin in yesterday's match at St. James' Park ... Manchester City and Leicester City could both be in trouble after their brawl in the match at the Walker's on Saturday ... Ian Atkins has taken over at Bristol Rovers  as their new manager ...

NEW - Almost every day, we will put our own fictional interpretation on a hot story of the day in MEHSTG's spin story ... Sven Goran Eriksson has said it would be a big blow for England if they lost Jonathan Woodgate for the Euro 2004 finals in Portugal.  He said it would be like being hit in the face by one of your mates after being out on a drinking spree or getting pushed over and really hurting yourself.  Such a blow would be very painful and easily avoidable, so the Swede pushed his glasses up his nose a bit further and got on with picking Ledley King instead.

Sunday   25.4.2004   (For other Spurs history on this day click here)

Spurs drew 2-2 against Arsenal at White Hart Lane this afternoon.  Tottenham came back from 0-2 down to grab a draw with a last minute Robbie Keane penalty after Jamie Redknapp had got Tottenham back into the match.  For a match report, click here.  For reaction, click here.
The Sunday People newspaper has broken the story about Stephane Dalmat hitting a young player at the club.  The news had been circulating among Spurs fans for some time, but the report has brought the fact that the French midfielder was involved in a physical fight with 17 year old reserve player Jamie O'Hara, after Dalmat thought he should have been shown more respect by the young player.  There are claims that he is so unpopular because of his aloof attitude, that he did not even want to travel to a country club where Spurs were preparing for today's game, but Dalmat's agent has said his client will return to Internazionale at the end of the season.  Although he can be a mercurial talent, perhaps that might be for the best.
FC Basle manager Christian Gross has criticised former Spurs keeper Ian Walker in the Telegraph today.  Speaking about his time in England he told the broadsheet, "The biggest mistake I ever made at Tottenham was to replace Espen Baardsen in goal with Ian Walker.  I cannot believe he is England's No 3 goalkeeper. He is not a winner and never will be. He was lazy."  Gross did go no to say he still watches out for Tottenham's results and will be watching the match on TV today after his side's game in which they could virtually clinch the Swiss championship.
The club has issued a statement on the official website stating that no plans to release any of the core players in the first team squad have been made, despite some speculation in the newspapers today.  Robbie Keane appears to have been one name mentioned, but the Spurs site carries a comment from the Irish striker saying that there is no truth in the reported story saying he wants to leave.
Reserve midfielder Mark Hughes has been named in Northern Ireland's Under-23 squad to face Serbia and Montenegro on Tuesday 27th April at Mourneview Park, Lurgan.

I wouldn't have signed if I didn't think that."  Hmm ... is that some implied criticism of the current man in charge ??
The Sky Sports website claims that Tottenham are after the 24 year old Hungarian defender Laszlo Bodnar, who is owned by Dynamo Kiev, but plays for Ukranian side Arsenal.  The player is represented by the same agent as Sergei Rebrov and has told the site that Hamburg are also interested in the man, who can also play in midfield.

Spurs, Charlton Athletic and Fulham are all in with a chance of clinching a place in the UEFA Cup if England top the European Fair Play league.  The FA nominate the top club in the fair play table for the Premiership who have not qualified for Europe and they could go straight into the UEFA Cup, if England stay ahead of Sweden in the rankings for all manner of fair play.  A second club could then go into a draw for a second place too.  However, Stephen Carr's dismissal at Everton and the pending FA charges relating to Mauricio Taricco's behaviour in the Chelsea match may end up affecting Spurs' place in the Fair Play league.
