The
following press release has been received from ESPN and might be of
interest to those of you with Sky ...
ESPN Classic is delighted to announce that ‘The Season’ will be
kicking off with a celebration of the great achievements of
Tottenham Hotspur Football Club in the 1981/82 season in an ESPN
produced documentary at 10.30pm, on the 3rd March 2008.
With insights from Spurs legend Steve Perryman and a whole host of
memorable footage from the Lilywhites great season in English
football, this is a programme Spurs fans will not want to miss.
Having won the FA Cup the season before, Keith Burkinshaw’s side
were hoping to build on this success, challenging for honours in all
domestic competition as well as the European Cup Winners Cup. A
Charity Shield draw with the Division One champions Aston Villa
kicked off the season in an encouraging fashion, and Spurs early
league form was impressive with Crooks, Villa, Hoddle, Ardiles
Archibald, Falco and co recreating the slick, exciting football that
had wowed fans the season before.
Knocking Arsenal out of the FA Cup in the 3rd round with
a Garth Crooks strike was inevitably loudly celebrated by the White
Hart Lane faithful, and another Crooks goal against Leeds was enough
to take them through to the 5th round where they met
Villa. A Falco goal this time was enough to see off the League
Champions, and a thrilling tie against Chelsea in which goals from
Hazard, Archibald and Hoddle meant they won the fixture 3-2 to put
Spurs in the Semi Final.
Meanwhile, Spurs had played well to reached the final of the League
Cup, where they lost to form side Liverpool 3-1. European Cup
Winners Cup victories against Ajax, Dundalk and Eintracht Frankfurt
set up an epic two leg semi-final with Barcelona, in which they drew
the home leg one-all, before losing to a solitary goal at the Nou
Camp – a highly credible European campaign in which they were
unlucky not to go all the way. Spurs excellent league form steered
them into fourth, and despite being held by QPR in the FA Cup Final,
a Glenn Hoddle penalty one them the replay and ensured the trophy
would stay at White Hart Lane for one more year. A great end to a
great season, all brought to life on ESPN Classic.
The Season is presented by Gary Imlach, who said “This
was Steve Perryman's choice. The FA Cup win from the season before,
with Ricky Villa's winning goal in the replay is more famous, but
Steve reckons repeating the trick the following year, while chasing
trophies on three other fronts, was the greater achievement. And he
should know. Fascinating stuff on the personalities and
relationships within the team.”
ESPN Classic will be celebrating Spurs’ Glorious
1981/82 season on Sky Channel 442 at 10.30pm on 3rd
March, 2008

Inside Out 29th February 2008 - BBC One 7.30pm
Broken Promises
Arsenal is the richest football
club, not just in the capital but in the country. Two years ago the
Gunners moved to the new Emirates stadium, promising to regenerate
the area and give back to the community. Now with the club doubling
its income to £200 million, in just twelve months, the neighbourhood
is seeing red.
The community feel Arsenal have failed to deliver their promises of
major transport improvements, a sports centre in the new development
and an integrated housing policy. To top it off, the club has
forced through planning permission for 32 phone masts opposite a
primary school. Geraint Hughes reports.

The Guardian reckon that Paul Robinson's Tottenham future
remains shrouded in doubt. Reports today claim that Juande
Ramos will be given £40 million to spend in the summer to take
advantage of the impetus of the League Cup win, with some of it
going on Juventus' Portuguese midfielder Tiago and some more
on Sevilla winger Diego Capel. Meanwhile, The Sun claim
that making way will be Pascal Chimbonda, who is in Ramos'
bad books for his sulky slink off the pitch on Sunday (among other
things if you believe what you read).
In other sources, it reveals that Chimbonda was annoyed at
being substituted in such an important game, but having had it
explained to him by the Head Coach as to why he came off, he has
apologised to his team-mates and everything is now alright.
The club will not be taking the League Cup
on an open top bus parade through the streets of Haringey, but
Juande Ramos and Ledley King will attend a civic function
with it some time in the future, with the trophy being shown to the
fans prior to the home UEFA Cup tie against PSV Eindhoven on
Thursday of next week (6th March). Additionally, the Cup will
be on display in the Spurs Megastore this weekend.
Meanwhile, Juande Ramos has spoken of his hard graft to be
where he is today, working his way up from small clubs in Spain to
Tottenham, where he has had granted everything he has asked for and
there are plans to build a training complex at Bull's Cross which
the Head Coach believes will be better than Real Madrid's !!
Jacob Livingston asked if we could feature this ... happy to help out.
In celebration of our glorious cup final win over Chelsea, we've
come up with a plan to let the rest of the nation know how proud we
are of the team !
We, the fans, should try and get a Spurs related song into the top
40 !
The charts start tallying up from Monday morning, so we might have a
little catching up to do, but with 1.1 million proud Spurs fans
around the globe we may even be able to get the 10,000 sales
required to push for a top 10 slot !
We've had a look on iTunes and it appears to be pretty much devoid
of any explicitly Spurs related songs apart from Tip Top Tottenham,
which without being too disrespectful, is tosh.
Therefore we've decided to opt for Barry Manilow's legendary anthem
'Can't Smile Without You'. It's a song that has often been sung at
the Lane and and away trips it does epitomize the love we all feel
for Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.
The idea is for everyone to go and download (legally, from iTunes)
'Can't Smile Without You' by Sunday lunchtime. It only costs 79p and
there are you may even be able to find free download vouchers online
somewhere, so there's no excuse. JUST MAKE SURE YOU DOWNLOAD IT FROM
iTUNES OR IT WON'T GET REGISTERED!
This is something that any fan can do, as it's not too expensive and
even the least tech-savvy of us should be able to download a song
from iTunes ! You might say the plan was foolproof, or even
Avram Grant proof !
www.itunes.com
Just type 'Can't smile without you' into iTunes' search function and
it should be the top search result.

The London Lite has interpreted Juande Ramos' comments that
he is finding it frustrating that Ledley King is unable to

at the end of the season. Funnily enough, the Daily Mail says
that King is being rested to allow him to lead the side in the
Carling Cup Final.
Portsmouth now claim that the transfer of
Jermain Defoe was a permanent deal all along and that he was
never on loan..

Gareth Bale will not play again this season, as he is still
suffering with a damaged ligament in his foot.
This is hardly surprising when he hobbled around the running track
at the match on Saturday, still on crutches.

MEHSTG's spin story ... Fabio
Capello is calling his England players by their surname, which has
caused a bit of a stir among the Press. This is probably
because the players were previously used to being called by someone
else's surname by Robby Bobson.

The Sunday Mirror reveals that Jermain Defoe's move to
Portsmouth has been registered with the FA as a loan and this means
that the striker will not be able to play against Spurs when Pompey
visit the Lane later next month. Portsmouth believe that the
deal will be made permanent within days, as they have an obligation
to buy the player and with Benjani's deal expected to go through
soon, the money will be available to complete the signing. The
issue with Sky Andrew came after Defoe ditched the man who persuaded
S. Cumball to run down his contract and was alleged to have moved to
a new agent, but Andrew is reported to be due a slice of the signing
on fee and may pursue it through the courts. The Sunday People
report that there are claims that Defoe represented himself in the
deal and that his contract with Andrew was not honoured, leaving any
complaint against him with a possible sanction from the FA of being
banned from playing. They paper says there is no
maladministration by either club involved in the deal.
Apparently, Birmingham City made a late transfer deadline day bid to
take Teemu Tainio to St. Andrews for £4 million, but the
Finnish midfielder could not agree terms.

to the South Coast with his Mum to sign on for Harry's team.
