Alan Brazil made his first appearance for the club with an embarrassing thumbs up gesture to the Tottenham fans before the match, but put in a reasonable performance.  The single goal of the game came on 40 minutes, when Spurs were awarded a free-kick for a foul on Tony Galvin.  Steve Perryman's dead ball kick was slammed home by Mark Falco to give twelfth placed Tottenham a valuable away win, despite Luther Blissett going close with a second half header that hit the crossbar.

The win was soured when former Arsenal defender Wilf Rostron tangled with Perryman and the Spurs skipper was sent off with ten minutes of time remaining.
