Jurgen Klinsmann netted his
first Spurs treble in this Second Round first leg League Cup tie.
Hitting a left foot goal, one with his
right foot and then scoring with a header saw the German striker convert a
"proper" hat trick.

Chris Waddle, Graham
Roberts and Tony Galvin combined to produce a shooting chance for Glenn
Hoddle, who picked out his spot from the edge of the penalty area and
hit the net with great accuracy.
Richard Gough powered
home a header from a Glenn Hoddle cross and although former Spurs
striker Mark Falco scored to make it 2-1, Tottenham were never in danger
of losing their lead.

Spurs shocked second place
Watford with a win that earned them three points at Vicarage Road.
Alan Brazil made his first appearance
for the club with an embarrassing thumbs up gesture to the Tottenham
fans before the match, but put in a reasonable performance. The
single goal of the game came on 40 minutes, when Spurs were awarded a
free-kick for a foul on Tony Galvin. Steve Perryman's dead ball
kick was helped on by Graham Roberts and Alan Brazil. Wilf Rostron
kicked the new signing's effort off the line, but it was slammed back
past him by Mark Falco to give twelfth placed Tottenham a
valuable away win, despite Luther Blissett going close with a second
half header that hit the crossbar.
The win was soured when former Arsenal
defender Wilf Rostron tangled with Perryman and the Spurs skipper was
sent off with ten minutes of time remaining.
The match had record takings at the time of
£57,436.

Fourth
Division Watford hosted Spurs at Vicarage Road in the League Cup Second
Round, but could not prevent Tottenham progressing.
It was a hard fought win by Spurs, with Watford looking to cause an
upset, but Chris Jones' goal on the hour was the only score of the match
and was enough to settle the tie. However, Barry Daines, standing in for
the unwell Pat Jennings, was called upon to make some saves and the
Hornets came close to equalising in the final minutes of the game.Teams :
