Its three weeks in and how have we done. Pretty well, if you look at the League position. Having hit the top spot, we have slithered down after losing to Leeds, but wins over Sheffield Wednesday, Newcastle United and Everton are points in the bag. Sometimes, it has been these sort of sides that Tottenham have failed to beat and have been struggling to find the necessary points to stay up with. However, the two come from behind wins over the Toon and the Toffees show that there is some resolve now and on reflection, the capitulations at the start of last season look shabby in comparison. The wins have come against poor opposition it must be said. I am not decrying the start that Tottenham have made, but harder tests lie in front of us and losing to West Ham and Leeds demonstrates that we need more consistency and effort throughout the ninety minutes. Every game played so far has featured one good half and one average one.

All this has been achieved without a spare forward and without Sol Campbell and from what has gone on in the papers recently, we may have to get used to it. Nobody wants to see Sol leave and he is making all the right noises about loving Tottenham and not wanting to go (just like Anderton), but who could blame him if he did move on ? Having been the one shining star in the dark times the club has been through lately, he could have huffed and puffed about moving to a more successful club (like Sheringham) or made life difficult for managers who were not doing things to his liking, but he has been the model professional through all that and now is no doubt biding his time to see if Tottenham are in a position to improve to a satisfactory level by the end of this season or the start of the next. Anderton is something different and several views on his position are voiced in the paper based issue of MEHSTG. He appears not to be arguing about money, but he wants a testamonial, while only wanting to sign a short contract. Meanwhile, in the great north, twiddling his moustache in the background is Baron Alex of Trafford, making noises about what he could do with a player like Dazza. Bosman has a lot to answer for and he wonders why nobody loves him !!

Europe has come around and a trip into the unknown is picked out of the hat in the shape of Zimbru Chisinau of Moldova. At a guess, it will be grim for anyone who goes and the best option would be to get in and out as quickly as possible. On the football side, I have had conflicting reports about the team. Some say they will be no trouble, but PSV struggled to get through their Champions League qualifier against them, so that proves they will be a bit of an unknown quantity as well. Expect long grass and a bumpy pitch, with hostile locals who haven't long had their independence. Enjoy the trip !!
Anyway, as long as the side keep giving their all, we'll win more than we lose and nice to see how quickly Leonhardsen has fitted in, despite what many thought of him. Keep the faith.
