01.05.1986 | Ossie Ardiles' Benefit
match brought exotic opposition in the shape of Internazionale of Milan,
but of more interest to the Spurs crowd was the appearance of Diego
Maradona in a Tottenham shirt.
His attendance ensured a sell-out crowd that put the kick-off back to allow everyone in and the game featured a feast of skill with Maradona and Hoddle linking up like they had played together all their lives. Mark Falco gave Tottenham an early lead and Liam Brady equalised for Inter, but Clive Allen hit a late winner for Spurs, for whom Ardiles could only play a few minutes, being restricted by his knee injury. Spurs travelled to meet some familiar faces (Jimmy Greaves, Terry Venables and Dave Mackay) in a Brighton side for Joe Kinnear's Testimonial match at the Goldstone Ground on a chill March evening. Winning 3-0 at the break, Tottenham went on to complete a 6-1 win, with the Brighton goal converted from the penalty spot by Kinnear himself. Tottenham's goals were scored by John Pratt, Keith Osgood, Chris Jones, Martin Chivers, Mike Stead and Gerry Armstrong. Teams : |
