18.08.1956 | An opening day
fixture at Deepdale ended with a 4-1 win for Tottenham over Preston
North End. Debutant Terry Medwin had given Spurs a half-time lead, when he took a pass from Tommy Harmer that was inside the full back and the defenders' cries for offside were in vain as the winger took the ball past Else in the Preston goal to slip the ball into the net in the 23rd minute. Ten minutes into the second half, Mel Hopkins brought down Tom Finney in the penalty area, who got up to score from the spot, but Tottenham still were dictating play. Johnny Brooks made Preston pay, when he placed a well-judged lob over the keeper to restore the Spurs lead, which was increased two minutes later when Medwin fired a shot past Else having been put through by Brooks. The home centre-forward Hatsell fired a 12 yard shot at goal that Ditchburn did well to turn around the post and in the last minute, Brooks notched his second to secure a convincing victory. 02.04.1956 | An early
Easter Monday kick off at Deepdale saw a glut of goals as Spurs held
hosts Preston North End to a 3-3 draw. Preston went ahead early on with Tommy Thompson scoring and he was soon on the score-sheet again giving them a 2-0 lead. Tommy Harmer got Spurs back into the match with a fine goal, before George Robb's high cross lead to the ball going into the Preston net off one of their players. Five minutes after the second half had kicked off, Tottenham were awarded a penalty for handball and Tommy Harmer stroked it home, but Denis Hatsell scored late on to level it up at 3-3 by full-time. result when Spurs hosted third place Preston North End in the First

Duquemin completed his hat-trick before the break to give Tottenham a 4-2 lead. The second half saw Preston push Spurs as they sought to get back in the game, with a result of 4-4 being achieved thanks to goals from Angus Morrison and Derek Lewis. 04.02.1953 | Home advantage in the FA
Cup Fourth Round replay paid off for Tottenham as they squeaked through
with a narrow 1-0 win in front in excess of 55,000 for a Wednesday 2.15
p.m. kick off.
Spurs started well, keeping George Thompson the Preston keeper busy until they made the early breakthrough in the 10th minute. Len Duquemin finished off a move involving Eddie Baily and Sonny Walters to put Tottenham ahead. The chances fell at both ends, with Ditchburn denying Lewis with a dash from his line, with Duquemin having a header cleared off the line in the second half. Preston almost equalised with a quarter of an hour remaining, when England winger Tom Finney hit the upright, but the ball bounced to safety. Teams : |

25.03.1922 | Spurs lost out
on a second successive Cup final appearance to Preston North End, when
they felt hard done by with decisions going against them. Leading 1-0 at half-time, Preston equalised soon after the break and when Bert Bliss scored, his celebrations were cut short when the referee had blown before the ball went into the net, as a Preston player (Doolan) was injured and needed attention in his view after being knocked out by a Jimmy Seed shot. In the aftermath, the Tottenham players lost concentration and Preston scored what turned out to be the winning goal at Hillsborourgh. Teams : |

19.03.1921 | Hillsborough
was the venue for the FA Cup semi-final between Spurs and Preston North
End and Spurs triumphed to reach their second FA Cup Final.
Tottenham had looked as if they might not make the date at Stamford Bridge with Wolves, having had two perfectly good goals disallowed and two stone-wall penalties turned down by the referee, but a brace from Bert Bliss could not deny them a crack at winning the "old tin pot" once more. Teams : |
