Having been tripped for a penalty to be given, Lee Hodges got up to convert from the spot and put Tottenham ahead, but the lead lasted just 30 seconds before the U's pulled level.  Oxford went ahead with a spectacular volley just five minutes later, although in the 40th minute, Danny Hill curled in a free-kick to make the score 2-2 at the interval.

Straight from the re-start, Andy Turner got Tottenham's third goal and a Paul Mahorn header from a corner kick made it 4-2.  Oxford had not given up and grabbed a goal to inch closer but five minutes from the end, Hill put the game beyond United's reach with a fine solo goal.  He rounded three defenders, then chipped the ball delicately over the keeper from a narrow angle to see Tottenham through.
