With the team unable to be
separated during 120 minutes of this FA Cup Fifth Round replay, it was
decided by a penalty shoot-out.
Although Tottenham had the early
chances, it was Forest who took the lead. Teddy Sheringham, David
Howells and Chris Armstrong all had opportunities to score, but in the
ninth minute, Bryan Roy ran through the Spurs defence to slot the ball
home. It was a fine free-kick from Sheringham that brought
Tottenham level in the 33rd minute.
With Spurs again having the majority
of the goal-scoring chances in the second half, it was disappointing
that in extra time Ronny Rosenthal's shot was cleared off the line by
Stuart Pearce and Steve Slade's late shot hit the post, meaning the game
went to a shoot-out.
Unfortunately for Spurs, Pearce scored
the first penalty, while Mark Crossley beat out Clive Wilson's
effort. Ian Walker stopped Roy's kick and then Rosenthal's shot
was stopped before Ian Woan and Ruel Fox both converted theirs.
Steve Chettle slotted past Walker and Teddy Sheringham had to score his
penalty to keep Tottenham in the match, but Crossley once more saved a
Spurs FA Cup penalty to seal their exit form the competition.

The rearranged FA Cup Fifth Round
tie saw the game swing back and forth in typical cup tradition.
Mabbutt's third minute foul on Bryan
Roy gave Ian Woan the opportunity to fire a shot past Walker from the
edge of the box, but the lead only lasted for five minutes, as
Sheringham flicked on Calderwood's long free-kick for Chris Armstrong to
head home.
With 29 minutes on the clock, Campbell
put in a cross that Crossley failed to hold and Armstrong was on the
spot to convert the chance and give Spurs the lead.
Kevin Campbell and Roy were denied by
a fine double save by Walker on 62 minutes, but when Rosenthal fouled
Steve Stone 10 minutes later, he was left helpless as Woan hit his
second goal from the free-kick to take the tie to a replay.

The FA Cup Fifth Round tie
at the City ground was abandoned after fourteen minutes and fifty
seconds, when blizzard
conditions made further play impossible.
Visibility was vastly reduced
and the pitch covered in snow. Even with the orange ball, it was not
possible to carry on playing.
However, Jason Dozzell's
fourth minute foul on Chris Bart-Williams that earned him a booking
stood.

Forest beat
Spurs 2-1 in this Premier League match at the City Ground.
The home side took the lead after 25 minutes when Kingsley Black
shot in from the edge of the penalty area, with the lead doubled ten
minutes later through a near post finish from Robert Rosario after Ian
Woan crossed from the left wing.
Spurs did get a goal back a minute before half time, when Steve
Sedgley headed in after a corner had been headed up into the air, but
even with a whole half to play, Tottenham could not force and equaliser.
Erik Thorstvedt had to be replaced at half-time, with Kevin Dearden
making what was to be his last Spurs appearance, along with Nayim, who
was to move to Real Zaragoza at the end of the season.

Spurs edged
this Premier League visit from Nottingham Forest 2-1 at the Lane.
Spurs strung together an excellent passing move
and with six passes opened up the Forest back-line to allow Paul Allen
to loft the ball over the defence and find Nicky Barmby running through
to volley through the keeper's legs.
Forest found a way back into the match when a
second half free-kick found it's way out to Scot Gemmill, who shot from
25 yards and it went in off the post. Spurs were striving to get
back into the lead and achieved that when Dean Austin's long throw was
flicked on by Sheringham and then Mabbutt headed it on to Barmby at the
far post. The midfielder played a low ball back in front of the
goal and Mabbutt was there to knock the ball into the net with his knee
from four yards out.

Spurs visited the City
Ground to play Forest, who were in the top four of the Canon League Division One.
Forest took an 11th minute lead
through Steve Hodge (later to play for Spurs), who shot past Parks in
goal for Tottenham, but Mark Falco pulled Spurs level by knocking home
Graham Roberts' cross on 26 minutes.
The home side pushed Spurs back for
large sections of the game and the pressure told when Colin Walsh scored
in the 64th minute. But with only a minute or so to go, Ardiles
picked out a shrewd pass through the Forest defence to find Chris
Hughton running through and he found the back of the net with a 15 yard
shot to earn Spurs a point.

Spurs met
Nottingham Forest in the first live televised League match on ITV and
Spurs thrilled the watching millions with a comeback performance to take
the points in their first home win of the season.
Chas and Dave entertained the crowd before the game and
five minutes into it Spurs fans were not keen to sing along to "Mustn't
Grumble", as Colin Walsh gave the visiting side from the East Midlands the
lead. With Spurs failing to get going, it was not until the 70th
minute that Gary Stevens' diving header from Garry Brooke's cross levelled
the scores.
Five minutes before the final whistle, Brooke
floated in a free-kick and Mark Falco rose to head downwards into the
danger area and Steve Archibald nipped in to poach the winning goal.

Notts Forest - Bowyer, Walsh, Wallace.

Spurs turned on a very good
performance to see off a strong Forest team.
Tottenham took the lead just before
the half hour with a Gary Mabbutt header, then Ricky Villa cleverly made
an opening for Garth Crooks to add another goal three minutes
after.
Mabbutt scored a third before
half-time to put Spurs 3-0 up and although Garry Birtles had found Ray
Clemence in fine form, he pulled one goal back for the visitors.
However, Willie Young condemned his new side to defeat when he assisted
Tottenham with a sloppy back-pass allowing Crooks to nip in to poach a
fourth goal.
Teams :
Spurs - Clemence, Perryman, Miller, Price, Hughton,
Brooke, Hazard (Crook), Villa, Mabbutt, Falco, Crooks
Notts Forest - van Breukelen, Anderson, Fairclough, Young,

A mis-hit Ossie Ardiles
shot got Spurs through this 5th round League Cup tie, but it was another
incident that took the spotlight in a match that saw the new West Stand
used for the first time.
Sours were awarded a penalty and Glenn
Hoddle stepped up to face Peter Shilton in the City goal. The ball
was hit to the keeper's right and he dived to push the ball out, but
some Forest players were inside the area at the time the kick was taken,
so Hoddle had to take it again. This time, he shot to Shilton's
left and found the back of the net, but Mark Falco was encroaching, so
again he had to replace the ball on the spot. For a third time
Hoddle ran up to take the kick and placed the ball near the right hand
post, but Shilton saved it for a second and final time.
Teams :
Spurs - Clemence, Hughton, Miller, Roberts, Villa, Perryman,
Ardiles (Hazard), Falco, Galvin, Hoddle, Crooks

A stunning goal from Glenn
Hoddle won this match for Spurs against a strong Forest side.
On a sunny autumn afternoon at White Hart Lane,
Milija Aleksic kicked the ball upfield, where Gerry Armstrong flicked it
on. Chris Jones knocked the ball back into the path of Hoddle, who
produced a stunning volley that flew past a helpless Peter Shilton to
give Tottenham an early lead they held to the end of the match.
Featuring on The Big Match TV programme, the
goal was hailed as the best that season, with the ball not touchng the
ground until it nestled in the back of the net at the Park Lane end.

Spurs
failed to claim the initiative with early chances falling to Conn,
Peters and Coates and went behind to Forest in the 33rd minute.
Liam O'Kane's right wing free kick was glanced home by Neil Martin.
The game was fairly
dire, with Spurs fans singing "We want football" and
"What a load of rubbish", as the team struggled against the
Reds, who were being managed for the first time by Brian Clough.
Spurs could have brought the tie level in the 82nd minute, when Perryman
snaffled a loose ball away from the keeper, but his shot was too high
and Spurs were consigned to an early exit from the competition.

Having
sacked their manager Allan Brown, Forest were up against it and when
Kinnear, Duncan and Perryman linked play to set up Martin Chivers with
the opening to score on 35 minutes from close range their fans were
silenced.
However, Spurs were
forced into a replay when Perryman's foul on Ian Bowyer got Forest a
free-kick on the edge of the area. George Lyall knocked the ball
to Dave Jones and his left foot shot flew in from 25 yards to take the
tie on to White Hart Lane.

A 59th
minute Martin Peters goal gave Spurs the points as they travelled to the
City Ground for this First Division meeting, doing the double
over Nottingham Forestin the process.
The first 45 minutes of the game were disjointed, with Spurs looking the
better side in the second half. In the 58th minute, Tottenham took the
lead with what proved to be the only goal of the game. Jim McIntosh's
poor back pass to Jim Barron went straight to Martin Chivers and his
pass put Alan Gilzean in on the left. The striker's shot was blocked by
John Cottam, with the ball being picked up by Cyril Knowles, who crossed
a well flighted ball back into the box for Martin Peters to hook the
ball in from a difficult angle at the near post.
Forest fought back to try to find an equaliser, with three good chances
going close to levelling the match. But Spurs also had their chances,
with Martin Peters went close to adding to the score with a diving
header from Gilzean's cross in a game where Phil Holder made his league
debut. Peters nodded down for Chivers, but Barron got there first and
then Roger Morgan missed a chance created by Gilzean.Teams :

A good
first half performance saw Spurs through this FA Cup Fifth Round FA Cup
tie against Nottingham Forest in their 250th FA Cup match.
Just 45 seconds into
the game, Martin Chivers' long throw found Martin Peters, who hit a shot
from three yards out that went wide.
With the wind blowing towards the Park Lane end, neither team was able
to get the ball down and play their normal game,
but in the seventh minute
Chivers put Spurs into the lead when he reacted first to the Jim
Barron's parry from Alan Gilzean's shot and hit the ball into the net.
It was a Chivers long
throw that created the second goal as Gilzean came across the front of
the defender and back-headed into the net with 41 minutes gone.
The visitors got back
into the game in the second half, when Knowles was adjudged to have
fouled Peter Cormack and Ian Storey-Moore struck the 67th minute penalty
past Jennings to make the score 2-1 and it stayed that way until the end,
although Jennings and Knowles had to combine to stop Cormack grabbing a
late equaliser.

Nottingham Forest at home on Good Friday in the First Division and it
was two goals each from Alan Gilzean and Martin Chivers that won the
game for Tottenham.
Alan Gilzean's two goals put Spurs into a comfortable lead, but Bob

Jimmy Pearce's involvement at either end of the match proved vital to
the final outcome in this 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest at the City
Ground.
An effort that was cleared off the line by John Winfield in the very
first minute, saw Pearce go close to opening the scoring, after Jimmy
Greaves had fed the ball through to him. But the team's dominance of
the first half was thwarted until just before half-time when Greaves
fired the ball home.
However, a fiery start to the second half saw Forest come back to take
the lead. Ronnie Rees headed the home team level, then Henry Newton
touched a short free-kick to Ian Storey-Moore, who struck a fierce shot
past Jennings to make it 2-1.
It took until the final minute for Spurs to tie it up at 2-2, when Alan
Mullery's determined run and cross from the right was put back into the
danger area by Alan Gilzean and Pearce arrived to put the ball past
Grummitt.

The chances that Forest
created but did not take in the first half of this match cost them
victory by the end.
Young centre-half Peter Collins
stopped Barry Lyons scoring from a narrow angle with a goal-line
clearance in the 15th minute, but Spurs broke away when Roger Morgan
took the ball off Len Harris and crossed into the box. Greaves
took the ball and set up Gilzean to shot home from the edge of the box
in the 28th minute.
The home side pressed again as the
rain fell heavily, but Spurs held firm and broke again near the end,
when Gilzean returned the compliment for Greaves to stroke home a left
footed effort to make it 2-0.

Spurs came out on top
in the FA Cup semi-final at Hillsborough in an open and attacking match.
Frank Wignall went
close twice in the first half hour with Cyril Knowles required to kick
the ball away from in front of goal and another effort just going wide,
but Spurs kept Forest out as they pressed forward. On 32 minutes,
Spurs opened the scoring. Kinnear passes sideways to Mike England
in the centre circle and his lofted pass forward found the head of Alan
Gilzean. It was his knock down from the aerial battle with Bob
McKinlay that provided the opportunity for Jimmy Greaves to strike a
left foot volley that flew past keeper Peter Grummitt and went in off
the left-hand post.
After 66 minutes, Saul
took the ball off Terry Hennessey and hit a 20 yarder past the goalie to
make it 2-0. Saul and Hennessey were lucky to stay on the pitch
after they got involved in a spat near the corner flag. It was the Forest
defender who closed the gap with an 81st minute header from Barry Lyons'
corner that bounced down
over the line off the underside of the crossbar. Forest pressed
for an equaliser, but Spurs caused some concern at the other end with
Grummitt saving well from Gilzean, Saul and Greaves. Forest's
efforts were not enough
to keep Spurs from going through to Wembley to meet Chelsea, who
overcame Leeds in the other semi.

Spurs could not stop Nottingham Forest in this First Division match at
the Lane, with the visitors running out 3-2 winners.
Jimmy Robertson's corner deceived Peter Grummitt in the Forest goal with
the ball ending up in the visitor's net.
Clayton scored the other Spurs goal, but it was not enough to stop
Forest running out 2-3 winners, with their goals coming from David
Stainwright, Mick Kear and a Roger Hoy own goal.

An early goal from Johnny Quigley gave Forest the lead in this First
Division meeting just before Christmas at the City Ground.
Two goals in the first half, firstly from Jimmy
Greaves and then Cloff Jones, put Tottenham into a lead they held onto

Jimmy Greaves hit a
hat-trick as Tottenham strolled to victory.
Greaves put Spurs ahead early on and Cliff Jones hit
number two before the interval. The game then hit a barren patch
before three goals in the last five minutes. Greaves made it 3-0,
but Colin Addison pulled a goal back for Forest before Greaves completed
his treble right on the final whistle.

Despite going behind to a Trevor Hockey goal after five minutes, Spurs
went on to record a very big winning score against Nottingham Forest at
White Hart Lane.
A quick equaliser by Jimmy Greaves was quickly followed by a second from
the striker before Cliff Jones made it 3-1 after just 15 minutes. In
the remaining half an hour before half time, John White, Terry Medwin
and Greaves completing his hat-trick had amazingly made it 6-1 to
Tottenham.
When Jones was felled in the box five minutes after the restart, Les
Allen fired home from the penalty spot. Jones himself got a goal to
make the score 8-1 before Greaves completed the Spurs total with his
fourth of the game. The scoring for the match was rounded off when
Geoff Vowden netted for Forest with five minutes left.

A quick
start by Spurs counted for nothing in the final analysis as Forest came
back to take both First Division points at White Hart Lane.
Tommy Harmer and
Johnny Brooks gave Spurs a dream start inside ten minutes, but Forest's
Tom WIlson got one back before the break. Then in a turnaround in
fortune, Stewart Imlach and Billy Gray took Notts. Forest into the lead
shortly after the interval and while Terry Medwin brought the score back
to 3-3, it was left to Imlach to notch the winner for the visitors.
Teams :
Spurs - Reynolds, Baker, Hopkins, Ryden, Norman, Iley, Medwin,
Harmer, Bobby Smith, Stokes, Brooks
Notts Forest - T. Wilson, Imlach, Gray,
