West Ham United Ladies Reserves

Tottenham Reserves took the field for their first league game of the season against West Ham with only 9 players due to first team calls, injuries, holidays and work commitments.

The nine that took the field battled every inch of the way and when one of the opposition players was knocked out with only 13 minutes to go were level at 1-1 thanks to a wonderful goal from Samantha Farnum. The injury resulted in a lengthy break in play waiting for the ambulance to arrive.

The girls then conceded directly from the re-start after a corner had been given and with their concentration broken went on to concede a further two goals making the scoreline an undeserved 4-1 to West Ham.

Club General Manager John Merigan who was in charge of the reserves praised the nine Spurs players saying "they ran through a brick wall for me and I could not ask for more. They were a credit to themselves and the Club."

Tottenham Reserves fielded a severely weakened side when they travelled to Colney Heath in the Sue Sharples Memorial Trophy. The Spurs side contained several youngsters with no less than six players making their senior debuts and came up against a well organised Colney Heath side. Although the score was 8 - 0 keeper Claire Bloomfield pulled off several fine saves to avoid an even bigger defeat.

Watford Ladies Reserves

The reserves travelled to Watford to take on a strong Watford Reserve side in appalling weather.

Although the defeat was heavy there were good performances from Kerry Daniells, Katie Jones, Anna Southgate and 15 year old keeper Claire Bloomfield.

Enfield Ladies Reserves

Spurs reserves took on a strong Enfield Reserve side at Frederick Knight's playing the first half an hour with only 9 players. Feraina Salmon made the number up to 10 when she arrived to help out having already played for the Under 15's in the morning.

They managed to hold the score to 2-0 at half-time, but then tiredness set in and they eventually lost 7-0., A thank you to all the players for turning out and performing so well, but a special mention again to young goalkeeper Claire Bloomfield ,who is improving with each game and Captain for the day Kerry Daniells.

Chelsea Youth

With five players making their senior debuts, four of them from the under 15's squad, Spurs reserves started quite brightly against high flying Chelsea.

After 20 minutes they were 2-1 up with goals from Mo Cordes and Meroulla Lazarou. Chelsea soon recovered and went into the break 6-2 up.

It was a spirited performance from the reserves that saw Chelsea only add two more goals to their tally.

Special mentions for Anna Southgate and Diane Gardiner, and especially Stephanie Cooper and Keshe Heaven who shared the goalkeeping duties in the absence of regular keeper Claire Bloomfield.

Ten man Spurs reserves battled hard against West Ham at Aveley FC on Sunday. All players battled well, but the numerical advantage of the home side finally told. Good performances came from keeper Claire Bloomfield and Kim McGhee.

Southend Reserves

The reserves scored a convincing victory over Southend Reserves on Sunday at Frederick Knight.

Young 14 year old Keshe Heaven led the way with 4 goals, the other scorers were Kim McGhee, Anna Southgate, Tina Cox and Mo Cordes.

General Manager John Merigan was extremely pleased with the performance with Kim McGhee especially playing well. Young Claire Bloomfield again acquitted herself well making vital stops with the score still 0-0.

The reserves battled well against a very strong Watford side, with young keeper Claire Bloomfield making some fine saves. They went in at the break only one goal down, but tired in the second half conceding a further four goals.

Enfield Ladies Reserves

The reserves, helped by a couple of first team players, held a strong Enfield side until the last 20 mins when keeper Claire Bloomfield fouled an Enfield forward on the edge of the box as she managed to get her shot in. The referee deemed that Claire was the last player and dismissed her despite Chuen-Yan Tsou clearing the shot off the line for a corner. Diane Gardiner went in goal and could do nothing about the penalty.

Enfield followed this with another couple of goals, one taking a deflection off Kelly Herrett and the other a fine free-kick. Diane Gardiner acquitted herself well in her role as emergency keeper.

Although they were up against it almost from the kick-off, thanks to some good keeping and defending and some bad misses from Southend, Spurs went in at half-time 1-0 up with a goal from Hannalee Fish.

In the second half the Southend forwards found their shooting boots and scored six times without reply.

Addeyans Reserves

Addeyans started strongly and Spurs were indebted to a couple of good saves by keeper Bloomfield. After weathering the storm of the first 10 minutes or so, Tottenham took control of the game and chances went begging.

Eventually Kesha Heaven put Spurs into a deserved lead when a shot from some 12 yards eluded the Addeyans keeper going through her legs and into the back of the net. It was still 1-0 at half-time.

In the second half, more pressure from Spurs eventually saw their lead extended when Diane Gardiner shot through a crowd of players from the edge of the box under the despairing dive of the visitor's keeper.

Addeyans pulled a goal back with about 15 minutes to go and this seemed to inspire them. The visitors put pressure on the Spurs defence, but they held held firm.

It was a battling performance with everyone playing their part in an important victory.

The reserves were defeated 4-0, which, considering they were left with a bare 11 due to illness on the morning of the match plus not having a goalkeeper due to Claire Bloomfield being harshly suspended for one game, was not too bad a result.

Thanks must go to Hannalee Fish for volunteering to go in goal and skipper Chuen-Yan Tsou for organising everything.

Hampton Reserves

On a windswept afternoon, the Reserves faced Hampton with the rain lashing down.

Starting the match playing into the wind, Spurs were soon behind to a controversial goal, when a long shot hit the underside of the bar and bounced down to be grabbed by Claire Bloomfield. The referee pointed to the centre spot and Hampton were one up.

There was some resolute Tottenham defending with the mud and wind making it difficult to clear their lines, but two long range efforts put the visitors three up at the break.

Despite a spirited performance the visitors ran in a further two goals in the second half.

Spurs reserves put in an excellent performance at Colney Heath to run out winners by 4-0.

Gill Blackmore led the way with two goals, the first a solo effort running from almost halfway before slotting the ball past the advancing keeper and the second pouncing on a loose ball in the area. Kerry Daniells added a fine third with a curling shot over the keeper from about 15 yards. Daniells then turned provider when Kesha Heaven powerfully headed home her cross.

Addeyans Reserves

Tottenham Hotspur Ladies Reserves

The reserves travelled to Blackheath to take on Addeyans Reserves in their last game of the season.

They ran out winners by 3-1 in a game played in extremely windy conditions that spoilt the chance of much good football being played. Addeyans took a first half lead playing with the wind behind them, but Gill Blackmore scored the first of another brace when a low, long range shot found the keeper wrong footed.

The half time score was poised at 1-1 and Spurs used the advantage of the wind in the second half to run out winners with thanks to a Gill Blackmore penalty, which was awarded for handball and a fine effort from the edge of the area by Samantha Farnum.
