Club History

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR LADIES FC

The club was formed in 1985 as Broxbourne Ladies by the late Sue Sharples and Kay Lovelock after the East Herts College team folded.  For the 1991/92 season, the team got permission granted for the name Tottenham Hotspur to be used and at the start of the 1992/93 season a reserve side was added to the Senior side.

The Club were winners of the Greater London League Cup in 1995/96.  In 1995, the Reserve side were the proud winners of the new Sue Sharples Memorial Trophy named after our founder and Secretary who tragically died suddenly on 19th April, 1994 aged just 32.

The end of the 1996/97 season saw a major re-organisation of the Club and the two teams, now containing many young players, took their respective places in Division 1 and Reserve Division 3 West.  At the end of that season, Tottenham Hotspur Ladies had won the two respective leagues League titles - the first team dropping just two points along the way.  The Russell Cup also found it’s way on to the trophy shelf after a 2-1 win over Fulham.

In 1998/99 the Club finished 3rd in the Greater London Premier Division and were runners-up in the League Cup.  The Club once again finished 3rd in The Greater London Premier Division in season 1999/2000. The 2000/01 season saw the Club finish runners-up by one point to West Ham Utd.

The First Team are currently wearing replica Kappa kit, which the company have kindly donated to the team, following in the steps of adidas, who clothed them in previous seasons.  Such support makes a big difference to the team.

The Club currently run two senior sides and also fields three junior sides at Under 13 and Under 15 age groups, with an Under-11 side starting in 2002-03.

The club have played at a variety of grounds and in different locations.  They started off in Hertford at Bengeo, then at East Herts College, before moving onto the Tesco Country Club at Cheshunt, which had a lovely pitch.  The team then had the Brimsdown Rovers ground as their home turf, before moving close to White Hart Lane by playing at the Frederick Knight Sports Ground on Willoughby Lane at Northumberland Park (near the gas holders).  Now they will play their first team games back at Brimsdown, while the Reserves will stage their home fixtures at the Frederick Knight Sports Ground.
