Spurs 2 -
West Ham Utd 2
Rather a disappointing result against
our East London rivals, after a very good display in the first half.
As early as the fifth minute Kitson,
after chasing a long through ball while holding off Thelwell, shot
beyond Keller to put the visitors one up.
Directly from the restart, Etherington made an excellent run down the
left before squaring the ball for Sherwood, who drilled his shot into
the bottom corner of the net past Bywater, the England Under-21 keeper
from 20 yards out. Sherwood then headed Spurs into the lead, in the
22nd minute, from Etherington's corner. Tim's glancing header
left the keeper standing !!
The remainder of the half was dominated
by Spurs, with the visiting keeper making fine saves from Rebrov and
Etherington. During this period Kamanan and Bunjevcevic also
went close, without testing the goalie.
West Ham were more in the game in the
second half, with Keller forced to make three superb saves to preserve
Spurs lead. At the other end Rebrov (twice), Piercy and Sherwood
all narrowly failed to add to that lead.
With only 2 minutes remaining, Kitson
reacted quickest after a corner was headed down in the 6 yard box, to
level the scores at 2-2.
There were several encouraging
performances from Spurs most notably from Etherington, but he must try
to be more involved for the whole game. Rebrov is a class act,
Keller showed what a good keeper he is, Bunjevcevic had a good run out
in midfield and Gardner will shortly be back in first team reckoning,
as his fitness level improves.
