Born in Plaistow, East London.

Debut away v Huddersfield Town on 12th April 1955 as centre half.

Switched to left back, where he played regularly.

Won League and FA Cup winners medals in the Double season and the FA Cup again in 1962.  Won the European Cup Winners Cup with Spurs in 1963.

Played for England in 1963 against France in Paris.

Made 247 appearances for the first team.

Then took over as captain of the Reserves.

In 1977, he was working in the back-room for Spurs, coaching the schoolboys and juniors at the club, taking training on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

Lived in Redbourn in 1977, where he ran a 14 acre nursery producing bedding plants.
