A lacklustre performance by Tottenham
saw them lose to Blackburn Rovers in the League Cup final at the
Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, despite having enough chances to win and
a clear penalty denied them by the referee in the closing minutes.
This was the first major competition in this
country to be played indoors, as the roof to the stadium had been closed
because of the heavy rain in South Wales leading up to the match.

Anderton's first sending off came after the Fulham goalkeeper Maik
Taylor had also been dismissed. Sheringham's penalty gave Spurs an
equaliser to Ledley King's own goal, but Tottenham could not make the
numerical advantage count.
