2005 - 2012        goalkeeper

FULL NAMES :  DAVID ROBERT EDMUND BUTTON

Born on 27th February 1989 in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, England.

Height : - 1.83m  (6' 0")

Weight : -  82.3 kgs    (12st 13¼lbs)

A talented young goalkeeper, who has represented England at a number of youth levels and is looking to break through with Spurs.

Attended Monk's Walk School in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire.

Signed to the Tottenham Hotspur Academy in 2005, David starred for the Under-18 side and had experience in the Reserve squad during the 2007-08 season, with his contract at the club being extended until 2011.

Tall with a good shot stopping ability and strong on taking crosses, Button as had two spells on loan to Grays Athletic in January and September 2008 to gain further experience in their first team.  He also went out on loan to Rochdale, Bournemouth and Luton Town to get some league experience in their first teams.  While at Luton Town, David was on the bench for the 2008-09 Johnstone's Paint Trophy final in which Luton beat Scunthorpe United 3-2 after extra time.

No sooner had Button returned from Luton, than he was off to Dagenham and Redbridge as emergency cover for the Daggers, who were without a contracted goalkeeper for the remainder of their League Two season.  Played in one of the pre-season friendlies for Tottenham before the 2009-10 campaign, but was put out on loan to Crewe Alexandra for a five month spell at Gresty Road.

Returned to Spurs and was involved in a few squads and sat on the bench to cover for Heurelho Gomes and came on for the last eight minutes of a League Cup tie at Doncaster Rovers in August 2009, before going out on loan in November 2009 to Shrewsbury Town for the rest of the season.  In August 2010, David went on loan for the season to Plymouth Argyle, where he has played fairly regularly and has starred in a few games with the side struggling against relegation and administration.  On returning to Spurs at the end of the season, the keeper was soon on the move again, but this time on a short trip to Leyton Orient on loan until January 2012.

David unfortunately sustained a bad shoulder injury that required it to be in a support and was out of the game for a few months, but regaining fitness, there was a loan in January 2012 to Doncaster Rovers for the remainder of the season, but he returned early before leaving to play the last few games of the season at Barnsley.

With Spurs looking at their goalkeeping ranks, three left in the summer at the end of their contracts, while David looked reasonably safe, but still would have been fourth choice.  It was not that surprising when it was announced that he had made a permanent move to Charlton Athletic in August 2012, just days before the transfer window closed.  After a season at the Valley, David moved on to take over as the number one keeper at Brentford in the summer of 2013 on a two year contract.

At Brentford, Button wanted to retain the number 27 shirt, even thoughthe traditional number 1 shirt for a goalkeeper was available.

The reason was that the 27th was the date of his and his wife's birthdays.
