12.04.1977 Spurs travelled to the bottom placed team Bristol City, but suffered a 0-1 reverse, which left them only one place above them.

City packed their defence and Spurs found it hard to create many clear cut chances, with only Keith Osgood's 15th minute effort being cleared off the Robins' goal-line. Our defence needing to be re-arranged when Andy Keeley had to come on for ankle injury victim Jimmy Holmes.

Terry Naylor was adjudged to have fouled Clive Whitehead in the box and Peter Cormack converted the spot-kick to give City the lead halfway through the second half. With the confidence of a goal behind them, the home team hit the bar later in the match through Cormack's shot.

23.12.1970 Spurs had to go to extra-time in this League Cup semi-final second leg to progress to the final at Wembley.

Bristol City battled gallantly, but despite having played better than Spurs in the first half, when Tottenham lost centre half Mike England early on with an ankle injury, the failure to turn that advantage into goals meant that the game entered an extra half an hour.

Seven minutes in, Cyril Knowles floated a free-kick onto Martin Chivers' head at the Paxton Road end and Spurs were ahead.  Although City still harboured hopes of securing a final place, five minutes into the second period of extra time, substitute Jimmy Pearce hit a stunning left foot drive for the second and a meeting with Aston Villa at Wembley awaited Tottenham.

Jimmy Neighbour has an odd souvenir of his first start for Spurs in this match.  During the match, Jimmy took a corner at the Paxton Road End and kicked the corner flag, breaking it.  He was given the broken flag post and put it in the garden of his Chingford house when the ground had softened.

16.12.1970 Spurs were held to a 1-1 draw at Ashton Gate in a tough League Cup semi-final first leg match with Bristol City.

The first half of this League Cup semi-final first leg was goal-less, but the tie sparked into life in the 56th minute, when Alan Skirton scored for City to send Ashton Gate into raptures.  The joy was short-lived, as Alan Gilzean equalised to take the tie to White Hart lane all square.

11.03.1967 Two Jimmy Greaves goals, with the second being a late minute penalty kick, saw Tottenham through the Fifth Round FA Cup tie against Bristol City at White Hart Lane.

Dave Mackay flew into a tackle early in the match and fouled Bobby Kellard, with the ref giving a free-kick and seemingly pointing to the dressing room to dismiss Mackay. However, the Spurs captain argued with the referee and stayed on the pitch !!
