1878 Eddie Birnie, half back 1910-1911, born.
1928 Tom Roberts, scores twice on his debut as a centre forward.  They were also his last goals for the club.
1942 Jimmy Banks, forward, 1913-1922, dies.
1945 Biggest home defeat at the hands of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
1954 Dave Dunmore scores a hat-trick in Spurs' win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
1956 Danny Blanchflower scores his first Spurs goal in equalling the club's highest winning margin in a home match against the Peacocks.
1962 Tottenham's biggest away win against West Ham United.
1965 Cyril Knowles scores his first goal in Spurs colours.
1970 Midfielder Dennis Bond plays his last match for Spurs.
1971 Tottenham's away game with Leeds United is played at Hull City's Boothferry Park because Elland Road is closed for hooligan trouble the previous season.
1984 Winger John Chiedozie and striker Clive Allen both score on their debuts in Spurs' biggest away win against Everton.
1990 On a gloriously sunny first day of the season, two World Cup heroes in Gary Lineker and Paul Gascoigne took the field for Spurs and the striker notched two goals, while Gazza got the third in a convincing win over Manchester City.

2010 With a 4-0 win giving Spurs a 6-3 aggregate victory over Swiss side Young Boys of Bern, Tottenham qualified for the group stages of the Champions League for the first time.
2011 Spurs handed debuts to Harry Kane, Ryan Fredericks, Tom Carroll and Jake Nicholson in a 0-0 draw with Hearts that  saw Spurs progress to the group stages of the Europa League on aggregate.
2012 Jan Vertonghen makes his Spurs debut.
