Giant killers Altrincham
were hoping to cause a shock in the FA Cup Third Round at White Hart
Lane, but Tottenham's professional approach saw off the GM Vauxhall
Conference side.
An eighth minute free-kick was quickly
taken by Jurgen Klinsmann out to Ronny Rosenthal on the right
wing. His cross found Teddy Sheringham who shot home to give Tottenham
a goal to settle any nerves there might have been. Darren
Anderton's corner was converted by Rosenthal in the 33rd minute to add
some breathing space before half-time.
The Northern side rarely threatened to
trouble the Spurs goal and when Sheringham's cross was met by the head
of Stuart Nethercott for what turned out to be his only Spurs goal, the
passage to the Fourth Round was secured for Tottenham.
